joining a political party-literally the most concrete and productive thing you can do-"feels too hollow", but partying and fucking and hanging out, creating a desperate localized simulation of prosperity without actually addressing any of the issues in the world around you, that's revolution

but it's not. it's cope at best, and actively detrimental idealism that undermines any real revolutionary activity. the liberals and the nazis organize while we suck and fuck and stay in our little bubbles doing nothing but bonding over how useless we'll be when it's time to do something, too divided and disorganized to challenge any opposition meaningfully.

we sit idle while the enemy mobilizes and closes in around us-the story of anarchism time and time again.

also, I don't want to give the impression that bonds are not important. but to simply concede that would ignore the ideological construction, because we're not just talking about bonds. how are these bonds to be actualized and consummated? through consumption, decadence and overall idle behavior. through rhetorical omission, organizing within a political party does not constitute bonding, "real" and "genuine" human connections, it's "hollow" and "just politics". but going to shows and fucking does.

this framing betrays the disposition of the entire piece, at its play-acting over revolution. it doesn't want to create a new form of relation, actualized in revolutionary activity and shared struggle, it wants to take refuge in these old forms of relation and re-cast them as radical.

here it is explicitly cast as lesser–less effective, less intimate, less revolutionary–to organize and take up arms and plan and strategize to transform the world. are these the words of a revolutionary or a reactionary?

Once I was helping a friend help a young, disabled, homeless trans man and we were trying to get him placed in a domestic violence shelter. When my friend called she was told that of COURSE they couldn’t take him, he’s a MAN. She then found out that they wouldn’t take trans women either “for our other client’s comfort.”

If that isn’t a perfect example of how trans people will always be gendered by transphobes in the way that allows them to harm us the most, then I don’t know what is.

This is also why trans people of all genders can experience (different forms of) misogyny. Transphobes will treat all trans people like women when it allows them to harm us with the same ease that they treat trans men and women like men in the example above.

It's also why 'Trans women experience this!' should never be read as 'Trans men experience the opposite!' or vice versa. Things aren't easy for one because they're hard for the other. There's no reliable privilege for one where the other faces harsh oppression. There are differences and transmisogyny is real, but our experiences are not polar opposites in that way. Driving that deep into your head will save you a lot of pointless discourse.
