Finally read the wonderful Doctor of oz

I wasn’t exactly expecting it to be good, like I definitely wasn’t expecting it to be bad but it’s a dr who wizard of oz adaptation so

But it genuinely was. I had so much fun reading it, like it was so fun. Highly recommend. More thoughts to come, maybe

1950s AU of spydoc except 13 is the one to do all the “manly chores” and fix stuff and go to work while the master stays at home cooking and leaving and taking care of their children and or pets

He cooks elaborate 4 course dinners every night and makes an entire breakfast spread. 13 takes some of the leftovers to their neighbors (Graham and Ryan on one side, yaz on the other) despite his grumbling

She eventually invites them all to a game night at their house and despite making a spread of like homemade snacks and drinks, the master doesn’t say a word to anyone but 13 and a little bit yaz

The master is still wholly uninterested in humanity and hates the majority of people

Both 13 and the master have massive crushes on yaz (they tell eachother immediately and gush about her together)

He begins to care about the Graham and Ryan but only bc 13 does

The master genuinely likes being a homemaker and takes pride in it

I’m a very color centric person so here’s the 13 era characters as colors:

13- a very like golden/bright yellow-orange

Yaz: a nice maroon

Ryan: deep blue- maybe a bit lighter/more saturated than navy?

Graham: a very rich and warm brown

Dan: a like medium green- maybe like forest?

The master: a muted purple-pink

Grace: bright green

Jericho: tbh he gives off a nice teal or cyan- maybe a turquoise?

Claire: rose gold?

Sonia: a very bright orange, not like neon but a nice bright orange, like the fruit

Fugitive doctor: burnt orange

And just for fun:

Missy: nice deep purple, more blue than red

River: scarlet red, like the lipstick color that everyone associates with being sexy

I am still thinking about a life is strange AU for 13 but I cannot figure out the majority of the characters tbh. So far I have:

13 as max (maybe… yaz could also take this role which might make the other characters easier tbh)

Yaz as Chloe

Ryan as Warren?

Graham as the stepdad?

So if you have any suggestions, I’m listening lol

Ok more on the Addams as thirteenth era characters

I think who Gomez and morticia are changes who everyone else is (also if you believe Dan is uncle fester, I respect you but also think that is the least likely character for him to be)

So if yaz is Gomez and 13 is morticia then Sonia would be uncle fester- both bc they’re canonically brothers and also because I feel like out of everyone she has the most unhinged vibes from what we can see (fight me on that).

Ryan would be pugsley bc it’s funny and the tardis would probably be grandmama? Originally I was gonna say Graham was but I feel like the tardis fits better if we have Gomez!yaz

I still think it’d be hilarious if Dan were lurch but I think he’d be better in Things place bc Thing is more connected to Gomez, I think? (I haven’t watched the 90s movies in like a year)

Which then would make Graham lurch which honestly I can sorta see? Or cousin It but honestly all I know about him is he is covered in hair, has a hat, and has a wife and child so…

But if 13 is Gomez and yaz is morticia then I think it’d be hilarious for the master to be uncle fester (yes I’m putting them as siblings, yes I know they have the romantic/sexual tension, hush) bc it’s funny and also bc they’re both unhinged and murdery

Ryan tbh is still pugsley, I’ll take other options but I just have NO CLUE who else he could be. With Gomez!13 the tardis would be thing, I think, which then makes Graham grandmama which I don’t think it’s a perfect match but I can’t think of any other characters that fit the “insane old person” role that well?

And then Dan once again would be put in lurches place… or cousin it’s

None of this is perfect but I haven’t seen anything involving the addam’s in like a year or more but I VERY PASSIONATELY was talking about this with my mom last night

Yaz: cis lesbian but WILL fight a transphobe

13: either demigirl or trans woman or both lesbian

Ryan: cis, Omni with a preference for guys

Graham: cis, bisexual, lowkey has a crush on both Jack and Ace

Dan: idk but he gives gender fuckery, pansexual

Spymaster: trans man, bisexual, lowkey has a crush on yaz

Grace: gives nice old trans woman vibes, bisexual with a preference for girls

Sonia: non-binary, straight

I think that’s all of them but if you wanna know a character I didn’t list, ask!

Pride day 11 cuz yesterday I completely forgot:

Graham and Ryan realize 13 and yaz are together is bc yaz has a bite mark on her neck one morning and the doctor looks just a tad too proud of herself. Graham connects the dots first and then tells Ryan after a bit

I see a lot of people say that yaz would be part of UNIT, and I agree, I do. I also don’t, though.

I think for a few weeks to maybe one and a half months after 13 regens, yaz would be a shell of a person. Some days she just lays in bed, staring at the wall/ceiling and not having the energy to get up. Other’s she does the bare minimum for survival and that’s it.

And after she starts becoming more alive again, Kate contacts her. she’d be the only one of the fam to be personally contacted. Graham and Ryan def help UNIT but they probably learn of it through ace, who 100% keeps in contact with Graham. They’re friends or more, fight me :)

Anyway, Kate offer’s yaz a job, and yaz accepts it on a few conditions: she doesn’t have to see the doctor unless it’s 100%, absolutely, no other options available, last resort. She doesn’t wanna see the doctor if it’s not her doctor, not yet. She only is called in with an emergency, I imagine UNIT isn’t always super exciting and I can’t see haz enjoying paperwork about saving the world.

And they help her go back to school. Because I think her ending is becoming a councilor for underprivileged teens, specializing in ones dealing with depression or anxiety.

Dan, Graham and Ryan would all help out, like secretaries or helping with the business side of things, and as she becomes friends with more companions they also start helping, just not as much as the fam.

She would 100% use her own experience with depression to help and probably would mention her adventures with 13… though those would always be vague, to help as well.

Honestly I’m not sure totally how it’d work, I’m not well versed in Dr who and it’s spinoffs but I had this thought one night and every once in a while return to it

I work at an arcade and have been MISERABLE dealing with fuckin middle schoolers the past few weeks so here’s my headcanons of the fam in an arcade!

13 would waste all her points on the claw machines and then beg yaz for more. Yaz would buy her more (because she’s a simp /aff) but drag her away from the claw machines at first chance

Yaz would play to win the most tickets possible because 13 saw a giant squishmallow and obsessed over it, so yaz wants to get it for her- she’d get like 10k+ tickets for her efforts

Ryan would spend all his time playing shooting games or racing games and end up with the least amount of tickets and beg yaz to buy him something

Graham would play more old school games or would play against Ryan (absolutely loses every time)- bonus points: Graham and grace went to an arcade as a date once

Dan would play the coin pusher games a lot and get the second most tickets, although he’d refuse to share because he wants to save up to by di something

13 would insist on doing laser tag and bumpercars multiple times in a row and yaz would have to drag her away from those too, before she spends all her points again

Ryan would win laser tag almost every time

13 would cheat at the claw machines to get a prize for yaz- how do you cheat at a claw machine? Idk but she would

Graham gives his points to Ryan cuz he thinks everything is a waste of space or badly produced (he’d be right)

Other than the squishmallow, yaz would get 13 different candies and other stuffed animals- also multiple fidget toys

Ryan would spend his(graham’s and yaz’s) tickets on an insane amount of candy- like so much candy. The worker would hate him (based off real experience)

13 would insist on paying yaz back for everything and promise a stress free trip, then 10 minutes into it would get arrested

Yaz is pretty nuetral on arcades but 13 loves them

Ryan would challenge yaz to a shooting game and yaz would win easily- like absolutely destroy him

Graham would encourage Ryan to try one of the basketball games and would be super proud when Ryan does well

I have a lot of thoughts on episodes we shoulda gotten in 13’s era so ima reblog this everytime I think of a new one, but here’s a list of them so far

One focusing on yaz’s depression (I believe that yaz was depressed both bc of being bullied and having no friends and a chemical imbalance, maybe she runs out of meds at one point on the tardis and we see how 13 tries to help? Or it could be like through various flashbacks)

One about Ryan’s grief, both for grace and his mom- with bits about his relationship with his dad

One about Graham… idk what it could be but I like Graham and he should get an episode

One about Dan, again idk what but that man is criminally underdeveloped

One where River meets yaz and 13. It’d be so fun.

One where 13 and yaz get stuck somewhere together, preferably after both realize their feelings (altho having it before would be equally entertaining)

An episode with yaz’s sister as an important character

One where yaz gets taken by a villain and 13 becomes a tornado of fury to get her back

Like 10 more episodes with ONLY yaz and 13 as the main 2, like in the time period between graham/ryan and dan

13 and yaz going on a date, whether they know it’s a date or not

More episodes with Kate, her dynamic with 13 could be brilliant

I have like a billion feelings rn and 99% are about dr who, specifically my hatred of 14 and my love of 13 but I’m too tired to make sense of any of it soooo

13 and yaz should’ve hugged more

Whenever yaz is helping fly the tardis 13’s thoughts are just repeating “she is so talented and cool and I love her” over and over

13 thinks yaz with a gun is hot (so do i)

Yaz thinks 13 is hot when she’s angry (same yaz)

Yaz’s family loves 13 and doesn’t believe they aren’t dating

Yaz still struggles with depression sometimes (like has bad days) and whenever she does and is with 13, she does everything in her power to make her feel better

Graham saw the gay looks from day one. Ryan did not

13 doesn’t sleep that much but will lay with yaz whenever asked

Yaz had nightmares and if she wakes up from one she seeks out 13

The mattress is in the control room bc yaz sleeps better around the doctor ( also so 13 can take lil power naps)

13 genuinely tries to improve herself for yaz (like being more open)

Yaz doesn’t push 13 to share but will ask questions

Yaz does not let thirteen be a douche bag to her, and will call her out

I am vocally very very supportive of 13’s era and vocally don’t understand the writing complaints

However. I do have my complaints with the writing, so I’m gonna talk about what I don’t like of the writing

A) consistency

The consistency of the writing is… off? They flip flop on how much 13 dislikes guns quote a bit in s11 (hating them in ep2 and 4, fine with the shot gun in 6, refuses to talk to the woman in 10 until she puts the gun down but will talk to the brother in 6 with one in her face etc) and I feel like they forget about the points system a bit (mentioned in 3 and I think 8 but j don’t remember it being mentioned again until s12 with Ruth/fugitive doctor, but I could just be forgetting), and this one is more nitpicky than consistency but I feel like they should’ve kept with Swiss army sonic for at least one more episode, if only with Ryan and Graham

Another nitpicky point but speaking of the fugitive doctor I wish they would’ve done more with her, even just as a mention which I’m including as consistency cuz she really just disappeared after that episode

B) character arcs

Yaz is basically the second main character imo, and she doesn’t really get a character arc? She definitely grows as a character, adopting bits of the doctor’s personality, taking charge when separated from the doctor, etc, but to my knowledge she doesn’t get an arc? Or maybe I missed it? She definitely gets the most screen time/character of the fam + Dan but I think even background characters got better than her sometimes (the first that comes to mind is Bella from s12 ep3), I could be wrong on this of course, I don’t like- analyze media and I totally might’ve missed shit but moving on

Dan also wasn’t dealt with the best. I mean- I really didn’t like him the first time I watched s13 and while now I think he’s fine I’m not sure I’ll ever truly like him like I do with most/all other characters? I feel like he’s under utilized and doesn’t really fit into the story very well? I think it’s good when he’s comic relief or a supporting character for yaz but a lot of the time he’s just… boring/plain

Graham and Ryan I think served their purpose actually pretty well and Graham in particular had one of my favorite developments, like he started off as kinda a jerk but he grew to love everyone a lot and I like that they were able to explore his grief pretty well, although I hate the message of s11 ep10. I think in s12 he worked pretty well as a comedic character that had some deep moments

Ryan, out of the original fam is my least favorite but not because he’s bad, I just think the other 2 are better. I don’t think I have much to say about him, tbh? Like overall I think he was used really well and had some nice development (s11 ep9 with the blind kid, his relationship with Graham, his fear of the earth becoming orphan 55, him being the first to want to leave the tardis) and I don’t really have any notes- I with we’d have seen more of him and 13 but that’s a common theme of all the companions

C) resolution

I think resolution is a terribly boring episode, and I’m sure that’s not a super popular opinion but any time where 13 or yaz isn’t on screen it feels like it drags on, which of course, could just be my bias. But like- I don’t really care that Ryan’s dad is back so for half the scenes im just… bored. It could be a really interesting topic if they had incorporated him more, have Ryan get a letter or message from him one or two times, have Ryan be jealous of the relationship between a kid and their dad, smth like that

But as it is, I think the extra characters are boring and under used, Ryan’s dad has no emotions connected to him, and while the dalek is cool it could have been better used?

Also 13 and yaz should have been allowed to hug and hold hands more, like let them be affectionate damn

None of this is especially bad, though. Other than resolution, which is easy enough to just- not rewatch, it doesn’t retract from my enjoyment of the show, in any way

I really like basically all of 13’s episodes, like even the flux storyline which I didn’t like at first I’ve come to love but the single one I can’t get behind is resolution.

It’s the only time I really see the bad writing because it’s so boring for me. If the doctor or yaz aren’t on screen it just drags on, and maybe it’s only me but like- I didn’t really care about the B-plot at all?

It’s great for Ryan that his dad is back and they start having a relationship but it doesn’t amount to anything? Maybe like one or two references? And like yea, that’s fine, you don’t have to do anything with B-plots but it could’ve been a good way to flesh out Graham and Ryan a bit more if he showed up at least one other time

Even episodes most ppl don’t seem to like (legend of the sea devils, I usually see ppl dislike) I enjoy watching bc it’s at the very least entertaining but for resolution it’s just not- I mean the dalek without its shell is cool and I always love the moments where 13 gets to be badass but otherwise I just didn’t care
