Ruby could’ve been SO FUN. I love character’s whose importance comes not from themselves or their family but from the circumstances they find themselves in and the people they surround themselves with. Ruby being important and powerful because of the importance people put on her, because of how she met the doctor would’ve been interesting.

Making Ruby inherently entwined with Christmas because it’s the day she was born, because everyone says she is, making the music in her soul a famous Christmas song because everyone thinks that’s what it should be would’ve been interesting.

Ruby’s important coming from the doctor and her mom, and everyone else who has put that importance on her, would be interesting.

If they had worked that angle from the start. Don’t make her birth a mystery and if you do don’t hype it up so much, make her importance slowly gain traction throughout the story until she IS powerful and important, make something happen to make her so, make it happen because the doctor, this new face, so regretful of yaz not knowing anything about them(yes I found a way to work her into this) they infodump immediately, this new face that latches to the first person he sees, a blonde 19 year old, a 19 year old putting themselves in danger for others, vowing to change the past, to not hurt this one.

Make is happen because he begs the universe for the past to stop repeating and for once the universe allows it to. Let 15’s love and trauma influence how Ruby is perceived, let it influence the world around them to inflate her importance until it’s true. Let Ruby be in danger and for the doctor’s feelings, the regret and hurt and love and hope, influence the universe enough for Ruby to BECOME what everyone is saying she is.

Make the reveal at the half point of the season. Reveal ruby’s birth mom is not anyone special, reveal that she was just a normal woman(girl? How old was she?) at the half point. Have Ruby grapple with that, have her grapple with the fact that her mom was normal and she isn’t, for whatever reason, she is more. She has a Christmas song in her soul, she was clumsy and unlucky due to goblins, coincidences surround her (seriously they shoulda stuck with that, I know why they didn’t but it would’ve been more interesting), it snows whenever her birth is mentioned, she survives what shouldn’t be possible.

Make her have to confront that despite having nothing special, she IS, and have it get more and more distressing for her as it goes on, have her question if her birth mom is truly what she seems, have her question why she is held up with so much importance, why the song in her soul is so powerful.

And then in the finale, have suketk(??) threaten her, have 15 panic, have Ruby panic, have whoever else is there panic. Then show Ruby doing something a human shouldn’t be able to- make it snow without her birth mother mentioned, have Christmas music faintly playing.

“How could a song have so much power? And power like him. The oldest one.”

Make sutetk unable to touch her, make her immune to him somehow. Immune to the death god, immune to what he can do- not immune to dying, she’s not immortal, but HE can’t kill her.

Use all the stupid mystery mongering bullshit as a final act, of sorts. Her importance and power doesnt come from her birth family, or mother, or her upbringing, it comes from the doctor- comes from the importance he has put in her, comes from him begging the universe for something to be different.

Let her power and importance in the universe come from herself- she jumps on a floating ladder because goblins took the baby, she faces off with a music god because it’s the right thing to do, etc

I joke a lot that I could write better than whatever series I think is shit at that moment in time (most commonly Throne Of Glass and Harry Potter) and a lot of times it is a joke but I’m 100% serious in saying I could write 15 a better story.

I could write Ruby a better mystery, I could write 15 a more compelling story with better villains, I could write their relationship more complex, I could do it better.

Avatar

A) the way ruby’s mystery is handled is probably the worst case of writing I have ever seen. It’s absolutely terrible. Thats not how you write a compelling mystery nor arc nor reveal

B) THE DUMBEST THING RTD COULD DO WAS PROVE ME RIGHT. I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS. I WAS FUCKING RIGHT!! NEVER LET ME BE RIGHT ABOUT STUPID SHIT

Srsly tho, as much joy as the reveal that Ruby is a Normal Guy brought me, it was the worst ending they could’ve given that mystery and I am only happy because I hated/hate the mystery plot and am a bitch

Avatar

Damn. This episode is actually good and entertaining and the message is like actually pretty good and clear. I don’t even mind the mystery around Ruby this episode because it’s not a focal point, it’s mentioned yea but it’s not like- held up as super important to this, it’s not the plot.

Fuck this is interesting, damn it. I genuinely give shows like 3 episodes to peak my interest but of course Dr who does THIS after smth like THE DEVILS CORD

Swore I was gonna stop watching the newest season but my mom is watching it and I’m in here so

RUBY IS SO PRETTY???? She needs to be a lesbian, let her be gay, I need her to be gay, I will sign my life away to this show, I will watch it for the rest of the time it’s on air if only this woman is lesbian.

She is so cool and lovely and like my favorite character in this and just- I love her. I need her to be gay. Let her be gay and happy and get a gf, I beg, it’s pride month it’d be homophobic not to make her gay (I’m joking)

Also: damn episode 4 is actually kinda fun… damn.

Hi, I’m incredibly petty about 14 and 15 currently, plz ask me anything about them if you want me to rant or anything about 13 if you want rambles (I’m being so serious, I like talking about these things but have to many thoughts to pinpoint) ((will reply inbetween sleep and work tomorrow, probably))

I couldnt reply but why r u petty?? Im curious, rant pls :)

So I’m petty at 14’s existence, I don’t like him in the slightest. I don’t like that he’s basically 10.2 and the fandoms characterization of 10, I don’t like that he’s still around, I don’t like that it feels like he’s back just to being the viewersI’m annoyed (bc my pettiness sparks other emotions) that he gets to settle down his Donna 3-5 episodes after 13 has to break yaz’s heart by saying she couldn’t attach herself to anyone.

Just- why does he get a happy ending? (I know why) why could they do it for him but not 13? 13 suffers so much in just power of the doctor. She suffers in s13 and s12. I haven’t watched the other drs but I do know they didn’t have to hear from their *enemy* that they aren’t who they think they are. That they aren’t from when they think they are, that they aren’t even the species they think they are. It’s just- 14 gets a happy ending but 13 doesn’t?

I’m sure They could’ve kept Jodie Whittaker around for a bit longer- idk exactly bc I’m worse than illiterate about how tv show making works but I know she loved playing the dr. Why not just- give her a happy ending? Hell you could still bring tenant back- make the forced regen fuck with their biology and stupid shit. And I’ve gotten off topic

Basically: hate 14 for still existing (srsly the biregeneration is SO DUMB), hate him for getting a happy ending.

15 is where my feelings get complicated. Because I love the characters. I really do, but the plots… and villains… and side characters… they’re unbearably boring and the biggest crime in entertainment is being boring. Not bad, not shitty. Boring. Because it implicitly fails at its job: to entertain.

The main reason I’m petty about him is that he gets to kiss a guy after knowing him for a few hours and thasmin didn’t even get to hug more than once, tbh. Other than that I like him well enough

Anonymous asked:

Not really an ask but a mutual complaint. I don't get why because 14 settled down and 15 is "healed" that we're supposed to be OK that they got to find love and happiness easily but 13 didn't.

We’re supposed to be okay with it because no one likes 13. The majority of the fandom either won’t give her a chance because of bad faith criticism or are the ones making it. I had someone tell me before I even started watching her, after I mentioned that if I were to watch Dr who, it’d be her, tell me that I wouldn’t like her because the writing was atrocious(it’s not).

Chibs Antis: Ratings are the indicator that people don’t like Chibs writing & it’s putting people off and driving people away.

Season 1 ratings lower than Chibs’s despite insane Disney marketing budget.

Chibs Antis: The writing isnt RTDs best but it’s still better than Chibs at least.

Make it make sense. Thought ratings were the indicator🙄

Just proves again how disingenuous Chibnall Antis are. Ratings only matter when they want to use it as a stick to beat poor Chibs, but when the shoes on the other foot all of a sudden they’re not as big a deal.

Im actually watching the fifteenth Dr solely because of how fun church on ruby road is. It doesn’t hold a candle to 13’s era

In the three episodes I’ve watched, I’ve only really enjoyed one the way I did 99.9% of 13’s run, and that was the first. Space babies is fun, sure, but a lot of things stuck out to me as “why did this need to be here?” And the devil’s chord was- honestly a drag whenever Ruby, 15, or the maestro wasn’t on screen and even sometimes when they were.

Just- I get ppl have problems with 13 because of sexism but compared to the first three episode of her seasons? They just… aren’t as good as I’ve seen people say

Ruby is so cool and if they would just drop the mystery around her parentage and tell us id love her 100x more.

She’s inherently connected to Christmas and there’s a hidden Xmas song in her soul? Sick as hell. It randomly snows when her parentage gets brought up? Fucking cool. We don’t know why any of that is the case? My gods just kill me

Also she shoulda been the one to find the lost chord bc it’s just cool

Avatar

Ya know… I’m enjoying 15’s series less than 13’s by a large margin. The characters are stronger (I love 13’s era but the characterizations are a bit weak) but the plots are so much more hit or miss.

Church on Ruby road? My darling, literally the funnest of the 3 I’ve seen

Space babies? Not the worse, it’s personally not my favorite but I like it well enough- the infodumping bit is annoying

The devils cord? I love the characters, they’re fun and interesting but the plot? It’s… boring. Oh, another world ending threat, another big bad who wants to end the universe. Like the toy maker and the bedazzled skulls (I don’t remember their names, sue me)… having a world ending villian every 3 episodes is boring.

Honestly the only reason I’m still giving it a chance is because of how much I love the characters- Ruby and 15 are brilliant, and the side characters are just as fun. Everything else is hit or miss

At least with 13 I had fun watching all of them but the first dalek special. Like- I’m trying to keep an open mind but so far… if this is what the rest of Dr who is like, I’m glad I didn’t bother.

There’s a weird amount of potty humor in the space babies episode. In one hand it makes sense because ya know- babies and potty humor go hand in hand but on the other a lot of it was just “ok… that is definitely a joke.” Like- the space station moving by farting, or Ruby getting covered in snot, it’s just… not my cup of tea.

It feels kinda out of place, as well, with the fact that the episode gets semi-heavy around the middle but at the end is using potty humor. 15 cackling when Ruby gets covered in snot was hilarious though, that’s bestie behavior and I appreciate it

Avatar

I love Ruby, so much, she is amazing, but the mystery mongering around her parentage is making me so done with the show and I’ve watched two (2) episodes. It doesn’t help that I saw an absolutely ridiculous theory on it but like- gods I want her to just be a Normal Guy. I want all the insane fan theories to be wrong, I want her to be A Guy

Avatar

See I think yaz and ruby meeting would be beautifully chaotic.

Yaz would show her a picture of 13 and Ruby would contemplate every single decision that lead her to having a crush on her bestie’s old body (fight me, Ruby would think 13 is hot)

Ruby would casually mention something about the doctor’s past (smth tame) and yaz would stare in barely disguised jealousy

By the end of it they’re besties and Ruby has convinced yaz to meet 15
