Alright, guys. I keep seeing a lot of people skimming over and forgetting the actual moral presented in The Boxtrolls. Yes, the movie shows that families come in all shapes and sizes. It shows that there a lot of different kinds of fathers and that having a father is important. It shows that genocide and violence is NOT the means to an end. It shows that some people are willing to do just about ANYTHING to get what they want (i.e. - destroying an entire race, wearing a disguise, risking their own life, killing others).
It shows us that classism is stupid and just because you have money or status doesn’t make you better than anybody else. Further into that, just because you don’t conform to “the norm” or quite understand what everyone’s so hyped up about, it doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you.
But, above all, I think The Boxtrolls shows us that just because you grew up being told something is true doesn’t mean it IS.
