Where did you see them? I downloaded the digital copy from itunes, but all I got was the movie itself. I didn’t get any of the extras it claims comes with it.

there should be a blue square that says iTunes Extras when you go to play it

When you click on it, it'll connect you to the iTunes store (so you usually have to be connected to the internet to do this) and from there, it'll open the menu where the options for Play (the movie), Extras (features), and Related are available

Click on Extras, the deleted scenes are under the first selection of "Preliminary Animatic Sequences"

All six sequences are deleted scenes (Baby in the Trash, Eggs in the Underworld, Man on a Horse, Trubshaw's Inventorium, Cheese Shop, and Tea & Cheese)

Laika is my favorite animated film studio. I am a grown man, and I absolutely love all of their movies, so much in fact that I rate them above most live action films in my collection of favorites. What I love most about the studio is the artists’ ability to tell dark and beautiful stories that stay permanently etched into one’s mind. I was more excited to see The Boxtrolls this year than any other movie. While it is not as strong as Coraline or Paranorman, it still lives up to the quality that is expected from the studio. I was just really happy the entire time that I was watching it. Currently two films are in development, Wildwood and a project titled Goblins. The simple fact that Laika is hard at work on something is enough to get me excited.

IT NEEDS HAPPINESS AND SMILES AND PEOPLE TAKING THEIR LOVELY FAMILIES AND KIDS AND FRIENDS TO GO SEE THIS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL ANIMATED FILM

if a movie has to depend on transmisogyny as a main plot point

then no, it’s not that fucking good :|

it is literally perpetuating harmful tropes that continue to fucking hurt people i dont care how good the rest of the movie might be

you don’t get to just ignore these things, you fucks, this literally fucking harms people in tons of ways

just because it doesn’t apply to you doesn’t mean you can just fucking brush it off like it’s nothing

if it’s based on transmisogyny, i don’t care how artistic it is, don’t support it

who in their right mind would make that an actual part of their story??

no, a man dresses as a woman for his disguise. can crossdressing in a children's film be harmful? not always, but because it happens to be a VILLAIN using this particular disguise to do EVIL, then suddenly the movie is terrible and transmisogynist, when it isn't actually trying to be

someone in the tag mentioned this earlier, but Eggs, our wonderful main character, wears a disguise early on in the film, as well. what if HE had decided to dress like a girl instead of a barbershop singer (pretending for a moment that he actually had an inkling of what gender even was)? Would people be calling the film transmisogynist THEN? NO, they would be PRAISING IT. Oh, look, a crossdressing boy in a major animated film! Much like how the Shezow fandom goes nuts all the time (and should still be going nuts, but ah well)

what i'm saying is, you guys are making a big deal out of this without actually taking the FACTS into consideration

should the "man in a dress" trope be eradicated from films (and stop making it more difficult for trans people in the community to feel welcome and included)? ABSOLUTELY. Let's get rid of it, for sure!

BUT, should crossdressing become more normalized in films, so that when characters like SHEZOW show up, they aren't IMMEDIATELY MISTAKEN AS TRANS (i feel for you, Guy, we all know you're a boy and always will be), and crossdressers and drag queens and those in the trans community aren't MISINTERPRETED as something they are not?? Hmm, that sure sounds like a SPLENDID IDEA

and yet, you guys still want to complain and whine about something you are PRESUMING (because how many of you actually went and saw the film?? hmm???) is true, but you continue to overlook the facts of this argument

the scene in question can be interpreted a number of ways, and if you wish to see it as transmisogynist, SO BE IT. USE IT TO EMPOWER YOUR WORDS! TELL THE WORLD TO BE MORE INCLUSIVE! but if you see it as a man disgusted that the woman he liked was really the one person he HATED all along, go ahead and enjoy the story! TELL THE WORLD HOW AWESOME THE BOXTROLLS IS AND THAT WE CAN ALL ENJOY IT TOGETHER

and if you weren't bothered by that part, but rather the immaculate accounts of violence and death in the film, then talk about that instead!

I will always stand by my original post, but, as i stated here, you are allowed to interpret this movie as you like. just know that your interpretation is not the ONLY one.
