#so like #as someone who works in the mental health dept distinctly with traumatized people #this is all 100% spot on #it IS super interesting to see what is often considered cartoon gags turned on their head to be Actual Trauma #hell I've written fics of stuff like that #just kids having these very real traumatic reactions to extreme situations that then affect them for the rest of their lives #its a little bizarre seeing addressed in a cartoon #but im honestly really glad it IS being addressed like this #it may be a cartoon but that level of representation is hard to get #especially because kids and teens are the ones experiencing this stuff at full force #not knowing only makes it that much worse so having a show say Hey! Here's why that thing keeps happening! is a godsend #geez i wish i had anything close to that as a kid #i had to learn about betrayal trauma at THIS JOB #im fucking 28 and it took that long for me to know that i had been traumatized and continue to be traumatized by my family #this is really important info that kids and teens and adults NEED to have #so thank goodness for steven universe #doing what needs to be done #su #su spoilers #suf #steven universe future

i dont steven universe, but i think this is really important seeing as how this commercial explicitly states that stevonnie, a childrens cartoon character, is intersex, nonbinary, and uses they/them pronouns! the dove commercials air on cartoon network, and will be seen by a multitude of children!

The best part of people drawing connections between Mob and Steven is the similar messages between the two shows.

Steven literally says “if you just let everyone be whoever they are maybe you could let yourself be whoever you are too”

And one of Mob Psycho’s themes is literally “if everyone is not special maybe you can be what you want be”

Both Mob and Steven struggled with an alternate version of themselves a version people pushed him to be or pushed to provoke.

In Mob’s case the amalgamation of his powers and abilities turned into a “separate” enity, from people as close to him as Teru to members of Claw everyone has tried to get him to use that power and fight with it

For Steven it was a whole expectations, he was expected to be Pink Diamond he was expected to be Rose. His family and enemies all alike compared Steven to his mother and pressured him to be like her or to even be her

And beautifully in the end they both cone to terms with their alternate selves
