the endings are often a little bit gory

This be Orb. I don't bite. 32 and just trying to do something with the time I have left. I post a lot of different stuff, but it almost always relates to animation in some way or another.

logan’s spotify playlist analysis

just a few (not really) thoughts i’ve garnered from the logan spotify playlist. fair warning, i have not heard of any of these songs before so i can be incorrect in interpreting some of the lyrics but hey, i’m trying my best, give ya girl a chance. i’ll also analyze the songs in order. summaries of my interpretations for each song is near at the end of the post! if you want to add anything, feel free to reply or reblog with your addition!

(one note, i won’t analyze the other sides’s playlist. i only did this because logan is my favorite, but if you want another analysis, i might do remus only if he gets one.)

big thanks to the logang discord who talked to me about the spotify playlist and my friend jana for proofreading this and letting me ramble to them! the analysis is below the cut. word count: 8300.

reblogging is highly appreciated!!! i worked rlly hard on this and tumblr rlly hates making my posts appear on the tags!!

tw: lots of logan angst, mentions of repression of emotions, mentions of lack of self esteem, and there’s a mention of suicide/depresion at the song “one more time with feeling” but i’ll mention it on the bullet so you know which part to skip!

I genuinely wish I could understand why Tangled doesn't have the popularity it deserves.

Fan of the movie? Guess what, same cast! Same songwriters, too! As well as an intense story that extends the lore of the movie! Ever wonder why the flower responded to a song? Show expands on it. How did Gothel know about it? Show expands on it. And the question of their life between the movie and marriage? Guess when the show takes place!

Fan of modern animation? Fantastic animation with an adorable style. Every episode has fantastic scenery, gut-wrenching expressions and just an overall fun style!

Fan of musicals? James Monroe Inglehart, Eden Espinosa and Jeremy Jordan. And if you aren't familiar with musical actors but still want some fun new songs, this show has them for everything. Fun and exciting songs? Wind in My Hair, Next Stop Anywhere, Stronger than Ever Before, Buddy Song. Emotional solos? Make You Proud, Waiting in the Wings, Everything I Ever Thought I Knew. Triumphant songs that make you wonder if the "villain" is really even a villain? Ready as I'll Ever Be, Crossing the Line.

Look, it just annoys me that there's such a huge fandom for Tangled, but the vast majority of them cast the show aside. You ask for a Tangled 2, and here it is, right in front of you. If you're on the fence, considering watching it but not sure? Let this be your deciding factor. The team works so hard on the show only for Disney to repeatedly fuck it over, and they deserve better than this.

You ever drawn a boy so cute…

This is Jeremy, from a wonderful little book called The Uncrossing by Melissa Eastlake. As I was literally begged to read this book and wound up LOVING it, I implore you all to do the same. If you like cute, happy gay stories with interesting twists, you’ll love it. If you like takes on modern magic, culture-you-werent-expecting and mafia subplots a la ‘All for the Game’-style in good ol america, and a couple spooks thrown in with your heartwarming romance, then you’ll adore it for sure.

Please check it out, it’s only about $4 for the kindle and it’s absolutely worth plenty more than that~

I am really baffled by the people attacking AO3 for hosting stories that involve rape, incest, pedophilia, and other dark things. Have…have they never been to a bookstore or library? People write stories about all manner of dark, horrible things. This is not remotely new. And at least on AO3 and other fandom platforms, the dark things are generally tagged. In bookstores and libraries, not so much.

V.C. Andrews was freaking popular when I was in jr. high and high school. Her books were in the school libraries. They needed to be stamped with trigger warning: EVERYTHING, but mainly things from the fun list of rape, incest, pedophilia, and child abuse. Her books are still sufficiently popular that there are new ones coming out despite the fact that she’s been dead for years!

Her books are in the library I work at. Her books are in most bookstores. Her books are probably still in the libraries of the jr high and high school I went to. Does that mean anywhere that has her books supports rape, incest, pedophilia, and child abuse?

That’s not how it works. Yes, there are occasionally things that a store or library will decide they don’t want to carry, no matter what. The first bookstore I worked at wouldn’t even special order The Turner Diaries. A lot of bookstores won’t even special order The Anarchist Cookbook. I’m sure there are other books out there that people are reluctant to touch, even with a ten foot pole. But, barring those few exceptions, most bookstores and libraries are not in the business of policing the content of the books they deal in.

Not because booksellers and librarians are all monsters who should be reported to the FBI, but because there’s a long history of censorship going very bad places very fast. Also, free speech is considered an American value. Hell, let me just link to the ALA page on censorship.

I don’t pretend to know why stuff like V.C. Andrews’ books, or the fics on AO3 that some people want to report to the FBI, are popular. I don’t get it. It doesn’t appeal to me. Yet I recognize that different dark things are in kinds of fiction that I do like - violence, murder, torture, war, other things that most of us really fervantly hope never to experience in our lives. I don’t know whether fiction is an outlet for whatever darkness lurks in everyone’s hearts, whether it’s a way of dealing with our fear of bad things happening, whether human culture just finds bad things fascinating, or what. Maybe humanity is just super fucked up and Pluto really is a warning buoy telling other civilizations not to go near the planet with the creepy mammal infestation on it.

But I don’t think going after fic platforms because some of the fic hosted there is disturbing is a solution to anything. (And if the people doing so are not also on an equivalent campaign against bookstores and libraries, I suspect that what’s going on is not what they claim is going on.)

VC Andrews was ABSOLUTELY the first thing I thought of when I started hearing about this, because hoooooo my god. And I definitely remember being able to get my hands on those at a young age. There’s plenty of shit I don’t want to read on AO3. Luckily, that stuff - or at least most of it! - is TAGGED, so I don’t have to. That’s the ENTIRE POINT. It’s not breaking a law, and you are not being forced to read it. Fandom purity politics are fucking tiring.

“Have…have they never been to a bookstore or library?”

This!!!

I work in a library. Specifically, I work in the children’s section. Obviously, that’s where we keep age appropriate books.

But nothing is stopping those children from wandering around the library and reading a graphic book. Nothing but their parents, that is, but let me tell you, people treat the library like daycare.

It’s not my job to watch over those children and hold their hand. It’s not my responsibility, nor do I want it to be, either in person or online.

You make your own fandom experience. At least fanfiction is tagged.

I worked at a book store. A kid wanted to read Steven King’s “It”. That book has abuse and sex and sex between children and isn’t appropriate for 13 year olds.

That’s not my call to make since it wasn’t my kid, but I did ask the parent if they’d read the book and when they said they hadn’t I did take the parent aside and let them know there is adult content. The parent then decided they weren’t comfortable getting them that book, so I suggested other Steven King books that are less graphic and more age appropriate for a kid that wants to read adult horror (Carrie, Pet Cemetery) and the Meddling Kids which has a similar plot like to “IT” (people who dealt with a monster as children return home as adults to deal with monsters again) but is more grown up Scooby Doo level stuff.

(Seriously, someone needs to write a YA horror series because kids need something between RL Stine and Steven King).

So the kid got three books instead of one big one, and still got what they were looking fo and I felt good about it but you know what - most book sellers would have probably just sold the book since the job is to make sales. And no library would have stopped a kid from checking “It” out.

But just because “It” is not for children doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for anyone. Because after the movie came out my store sold out of “It” for awhile and I had a man come in who bought that last copy in the store. He told me he’d never been in a bookstore before and he hadn’t read a book since he was forced to read books for school as kid.

So many adults just stop reading after High School.

And here is this man who is going buy and voluntarily read a giant book (“It” is a brick and could have been split into smaller books). That’s amazing!

Books are a good thing, even if they aren’t for children or aren’t for everyone and have disturbing things, people enjoying books doesn’t hurt anyone.

And if people are reading stories online instead of books, hey they’re still reading!

Using your brain faculties to analyse what yu read - or do not read and do not want to read - is a thing! Reading something does not equal either supporting that hting, wanting to experience the thing, wanting someone esle to experience the thing. We read - and write - a lot of things for a lot of different reasons that are not in an one-to-one correlation with reality. This is why it is called FICTION. A few facets and purposes of fiction is to allow or make you to think or experience emotions - also those that you might never encounter in reality, or analyse concepts that are safer to analyse in fiction. Dammit, why is it so hard to understand? Why does every generation get their own stupid Fahrenheit 451 zombie acolytes of ‘purity’?

without spoiling too much of the upcoming arc in mp100 i really do want to stress: dont underestimate it. the anime might tone it down, but reading it in the manga was tough and even now i have a hard time rereading because its just so cruel. its meant to be cruel. theres a good ending but the way to it is through a very very dark place. so please be careful and take care of yourself while watching.

I think bones will end the season on a cliffhanger before the super 5 show up

uhhhhhhhhhhh no. They're definitely doing the full World Domination Arc! Super 5 and Mr. Dad himself very much included.

they just haven't revealed a single bit of anything past that Shou moment (which is literally a singular frame, nothing more) in the trailers because they are being SMART and keeping it under wraps to surprise everyone (anime-only and manga readers alike).

hell, the major promo visuals literally show us that things are gonna come to a big finish that SURE DOES REMIND ME A LOT OF THE END OF THE WORLD DOMINATION ARC, dontcha think??

the PVs (mainly the second one) were very well put together, though. They managed to show off the animation mastery we all crave from MP100, filled its short timeframe with lots of still shots that echo the feeling of the show but come from all different arcs to give a taste of variety, while also showing us the violence and darker tones this season will take without detracting from the fun stuff that happens, too.

i tallied up how much was shown from each arc in that previous post, but the second PV focused heavily on the Mogami Arc and the Separation Arc, and the really interesting visual liberties they took with them without actually giving away ANYTHING about what made both of those arcs so devastating. Anime-only and manga readers would be and ARE impressed, because it gave us more than enough to be amazed without actually spoiling anything major to the plot points of the show.

and after seeing that horrible "a dog's way home" or whatever trailer that played before Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and how they completely gave away each plot point AND the ending of the movie, there's so many people saying "why should I bother seeing it if I already know what's gonna happen" and this MP100 PV has been genius by doing the exact opposite of this. It's given you JUST ENOUGH to make you curious, to make you remember what you loved about the first season or make you interested for the first time if you somehow hadn't seen that first season, it's showing off its beautiful masterful animation to those who want to appreciate it, sucking in those in love with the story, exciting those who want to see some darker turns in the tale, relieving those who hope for casual moments to not be outshone by the dark, and all in such a short little bit of time.

it gave us a LOT of visuals to work with without revealing any of the major plot points and especially not the ending!

no, we're absolutely getting the World Domination Arc, and all of us will be blown away by it. Guaranteed.

Here is the thing; Jonah doesn’t know what he wants. Jonah is a happy go lucky guy who tries to please people. He will do anything for the people around him because, at the end of the day, he just wants to make people happy. But, as kind as this makes him, he doesn’t know what will make him happy. He has lost sight of himself– his needs, his wants, his ideas, his desires– because he is so focused on other people’s pleasure. Jonah needs to learn how to put himself first and stand up for himself. It is only once he does that will he be able to truly figure out who he wants to be with, whether that is Andi or Cyrus or no one at all. But at the end of the day,  he is still just a middle school boy. He is allowed to not know what he wants because he is young and has so much more life to live. But I do hope to see him grow and figure himself out over the course of the show. I want Jonah to be able to stand up for himself and want he wants by the end of the show’s run, that is my goal for him.
