the endings are often a little bit gory

This be Orb. I don't bite. 32 and just trying to do something with the time I have left. I post a lot of different stuff, but it almost always relates to animation in some way or another.

yuki figured machi out without her having to say a damn thing! he understood her triggers just from watching her and witnessing her weaker moments! she didn’t have to spell a damn thing out to him, because he’s perceptive and understands! the moment he patted machi’s head and essentially told her he’d taken notice of the hard work she’s done to become herself and that he’s proud of her for that, i broke. like b r u h. that’s what she NEEDED! he offered to join her in making footprints in the snow! he offered to be there with her so she wouldn’t be trapped in her head as she did it alone! but my favorite part, the most important scene i have been anticipating since i read it in the manga years ago, was when he broke the chalk. without being told, without be asked, without breaking his focus, bringing attention to her, or batting an eye, he reached over mid speech and broke a piece of chalk so she wouldn’t be triggered. it’s such a small gesture with monumental meaning behind it. i love yuchi so much i’m just a big ball of emotions rn please send help

It’s already been brought up many times by people commenting on this episode - the vast difference between Hiro’s mother and Machi’s. Many people have also talked about how Machi’s parents need to learn from Hiro’s and so forth. So, I don’t think this is anything new, really, but I just love how, by combining the chapter with Machi’s backstory with the chapter focused on Minagawa’s graudation, we not only got interesting parallels with the Prince Yuki Fanclub and Machi (as is the norm), but also a parallel between Machi and Hiro with their parents and younger siblings.

Both Hiro and Machi love and care for their younger siblings (Machi wouldn’t have worried about her little brother catching a cold otherwise), but her parents are the ones that stop her from being able to show him that love and care. Machi’s mother holds her younger brother tightly in her arms and pushes Machi away.

Meanwhile, Hiro has mother that holds his little sister gently in her arms and when she tells Hiro to hold Hinata, she moves towards him, and as she does, so does Hinata. Satsuki is openly inviting her son to hold his little sister and physically show the love and care that he has for her. But, Hiro is the one that holds back and keeps his own sister at arms length, not because he wants to, but because he “kinda” has to due to the Curse.

The flipping of their situation and experiences with their parents (especially mothers) and younger siblings, as well as the flip in the gender of the older sibling and the younger one, makes for an interesting and unexpected parallel between Machi and Hiro that only just really occurred to me.
