the endings are often a little bit gory

This be Orb. I don't bite. 32 and just trying to do something with the time I have left. I post a lot of different stuff, but it almost always relates to animation in some way or another.

I love that Remus' good day has instantly undone any of the positive impacts of the other sides' good days because Thomas has now licked a stain on the carpet and vandalized someone else's car

Y'know, this brings up a good point - Did anything we saw in the video really happen?

In "meatspace," I mean - With c!Thomas. I think it didn't.

...kind of.

Both Patton and Janus said some interesting expositional/mechanical things:

Patton: "Whichever you pick, I'm gonna wanna do, which means Thomas is gonna wanna do it, which means you get to do it too!"

To me, this also implies the inverse is true - that Logan can only access certain resources (in this case, the library) when Thomas does. That Logan cannot access the library (or, at bare minimum, the new information it contains) without Thomas'... "permission," for lack of a better term.

So, what happened in meatspace? In this case, I think Thomas really did do all these things - But what we saw was the visual "translation" of how that affected Logan, how he was able to access the information from the external world.

[Roman and Virgil's segment didn't really address much about mindscape mechanics - Unless we count the SURPRISINGLY CASUAL (if it's canon) REVEAL OF ROMAN'S ROOM???]

Anyway - Back to Remus, via Janus:

Janus: "Have at it; I've convinced Thomas to lean into his intrusive thoughts for the day."

What I took from this wasn't that Thomas actually destroyed a car - Not only would that be pretty out-of-character, I seriously doubt that Janus would allow/encourage that - With him being Thomas' self-preservation and all.

However, this doesn't mean Thomas couldn't "lean into" Remus' suggestions and THINK about HOW he could destroy someone's car.

In meatspace, I think Thomas saw the badly-parked car and Remus suggested destroying it - But, instead of either extreme of suppressing the thought, or blindly acting on it, he instead thought about, in detail, what Remus said.

Which then allowed Remus to, in the Mindscape, act out what would happen.

This also explains why some of the alternate cards Janus wrote were... a bit much, at first glance?

I'm pretty sure Jan knows better than to let Remus actually try to kill Thomas' family (or walk into traffic) - But, letting Thomas face the nasty thought, and not try to deny it's existence/force it out?

That seems pretty in-line with what they've both been trying to do.

Also, can I just say that people like Charlie, Criken, etc using Ranboo's pronouns when talking about them in stream makes me so stupidly happy 💜 I know it's silly and lots of people use Ranboo's preferred pronouns already, but just that solidarity from their friends and switching back and forth between he/they etc is just super nice and validating. Ok, I'll shut up now.

this is one of the most touching moments in the entire episode for me.

these two might like to make snide remarks at one another and argue, but it's clear that they have a great deal of respect for one another and their boundaries.

in this line of work, it's near impossible to find someone you can trust with your entire life. there are bound to be secrets that you take to the grave and keep from even the closest people to you. kazuki and rei are still such close partners even with the knowledge that some details about their lives are off-limits, and i think that showcases the immense amount of trust they have in one another.

the writers did a fantastic job saying so much in so few words, and i think that's incredible.

im very sorry to plague my starkid mutuals' dash with another post for dsmpblr but

joining a new community is weird when you don't know their rules/shit to avoid, so if you wanted to know here are some of them!

  1. First and foremost, do not be weird about the actors. They are part of the Team Starkid company and play roles. That's it. A lot of them have social media presences/YouTube channels. Talking about them is okay, but please remember respect their boundaries! And remember that Starkid is their job, do not ask them questions about it unless the situation calls for it, Starkid is not the only thing they do. They're not like mincraft youtubers in terms of fame.
  2. Some Starkid actors are dating each other/are married. Do not ship them please, their private lives are none of your business. (This is the main thing we used to have a problem with as a community)
  3. We also have some discourse about some fictional ships (mainly tedgens and barnsroe). Please respect that some people in the fandom have problems with them, and follow their dni.
  4. Be aware that Starkid is a very old tumblr community. A lot of people have been mutuals here for years. We are used to being a small community, and dsmplr is a HUGE one. Please respect that some people will prefer that you don't interact with them. It's nothing personal, the community has just being the same for a very long while.

And hey, new people, you'll get the hang of this quickly I promise! There's no reason to feel intimidated if you decide to stay. Plenty of people here will be willing to talk about starkid with you as a newcomer, give you recommendations for shows and curiosities/details about the shows. I'm always open to talk about it if you need to.

Just remember to not flood the tags, and please and respect the community and the actors' boundaries. That's something you are mostly already mindful of, so we shouldn't have a problem. Enjoy the shows!

(That's all I can think of for now. If anyone from the starkid fandom has anything more to say, please feel free to add on!)

something I love in animation is when it really manages to capture weight.

It’s usually only done well in 2D animation when it’s a short/feature film, and it’s rarely captured in 3D animation. In fact, so many 3D animated characters among the various studios look unaffected by gravity. Even Pixar’s upcoming film, Luca— while I’m glad for something more stylized— looks so... inflated? Idk how to explain it ?????

One animation style I adore is Lilo and Stitch. They very consciously push the weighted-ness of everything.

(rather than balloon animals, the shapes are more akin to water balloons, yknow?)

It’s weird to me that so much of 3D animation isn’t able to make their character feel like they have solid mass??? It’s totally doable!!! It’s been done!!!

Maybe it’s just a personal preference, but I wish there was More Of This.

unpopular opinion but

its not really “ace discourse” you just. don’t like ace people and are trying to “discourse” them all into identifying as something else

It’s not ace discourse, exclusionists are just bigots. Discourse is a discussion, and there isn’t a discussion to be had here. Exclusionists are assholes, and they’re WRONG. End of story. It’s not discourse, it’s bullshit.

this! like. we dont call homophobia “gay discourse” we shouldnt call aphobia “ace discourse”

aidan gallagher was soooo good in the umbrella academy??? like, he’s a 14 years old acting as a 58 y/o grown ass man who travelled through the apocalypse and then went back to a 14 years old’s body??? and he’s so pissed about it?? he complains as an adult would complain??? every time he was on screen I felt like there was a grown man instead of a little child HIS ACTING WAS SO GOOD. and can we talk about the fact that he spends a fourth of his screen time talking to a mannequin he thinks is the love of his life??? and he’s so CONVINCING that imma about to go “goddamn fucking right, that mannequin is fucking right you should have listened to it” in every fucking scene THATS TALENT BITCH

Ok let’s clear something up. Who is to blame for the apocalypse? I’ve seen a wide variety of answers, from Luther for what he did to Vanya, to Klaus for throwing out the book and unknowingly providing it to Leonard, to Five for reversing the Day That Wasn’t, to Vanya herself for being the bomb, to Allison for Rumouring her on their father’s orders when they were 4 years old.

You know who’s damn fault it was? Reginald fucking Hargreeves. He’s the one who adopted a bunch of children and then abused them their whole childhood. He’s the one who treated a bunch of kids like they were weapons. He’s the one who got spooked by Vanya’s powers, and instead of dealing with them, decided to repress them and magic her into believing she was ordinary. He’s the one who deliberately separated her from her siblings and drove the wedge deeper and deeper between them – not only was she “ordinary,” she was also not allowed in any of the family photos, or allowed out on any of the family “trips”, or ever mentioned.

He’s the one who made her feel like she was useless and worthless. He’s the one who fucked her up, and laid every single foundation for everything that lead to the apocalypse. And really, he put the final nail in the coffin when he killed himself and drew all the kids together. It’s that that brought all of them to the house, and meant that Klaus stole the box, and meant that Vanya felt excluded again, meant that everything that followed had the chance to happen at all.

You wanna blame someone? Blame Reggie Hargreeves.

this ep really shows how good mp100/bones/ONE is at designing characters who are related and making them look similar yet far from identical like shou having his fathers eyes and mob looking strikingly similar to ritsu when he’s tense! it’s not an obvious thing like in some disney movies where a child is basically a copy of their parent but like a subtle similarity that really jumps out sometimes. you can always tell mob and ritsu apart and shou doesn’t really look a lot like his dad but you don’t have to wonder if they are related — it’s obvious in a very natural way

despite how distressing the fire scene at the beginning of the world dom arc is, it marks the beginning of my second favorite Dimple-grows-as-a-character arc. So I know it’s kinda weird, but this is when I started to realize that the fart cloud we all know and love genuinely cares for Mob (and, to an extent, the Kageyama family).

His first reaction to seeing what appears to be Mob’s dead family is horror, (which is uncharacteristic of his usually unfazed reactions to gore/death. like, the dude is dead and has been for a very long time- he’s seen everything.) His second reaction to the horrible scene is to try to get Mob to look away, hoping that maybe Mob will shut his eyes before he processes what he’s seeing. Mob sees anyways and - understandably- panics and explodes. But Dimple provides him an anchor, demanding his eye contact and helping get him back under control. Granted, he makes a split second decision to tell Mob that the bodies are fake even though he doesn’t know if it’s true or not. Mob calms down just enough to listen to him and to let him talk him through any sort of explanation that would make the situation less traumatizing. But Dimple actually talks him out of slipping into ???% even though letting Mob go ??? wouldn’t’ve hurt Dimple’s goals at all. It wouldn’t’ve damaged Mob physically, wouldn’t’ve kept Dimple from someday turning Mob into a god or becoming an important person. Mob’s power would’ve kept him safe in the path of ???’s destruction.

Preventing ???% was a decision Dimple made to protect Mob’s emotions– to comfort a traumatized child.

Through the next couple of scenes Mob is still a mess, but he’s a mess that’s clinging to the hope that Dimple has given him. Dimple continues to get more and more stressed that he could potentially be lying to Mob every time he asks for affirmation that his family is alive, but he continues to tell him to have hope.

Part from the broccoli arc (for obv reasons) this arc is the biggest reason I love Dimple because he panics for Mob’s sake. He steps in when they meet up with the others to tell the Reigen what happened, realizing that Mob is in no state to re-live it. He looks genuinely stressed when he and Reign step aside to discuss it further without Mob there. He continues to protect Mob throughout the world domination arc, to stay close and guard him, without any sly prompting from Reigen, or without Mob requesting it, without any ulterior motives. And I think this arc was when he Genuinely started to love Mob.
