yuki figured machi out without her having to say a damn thing! he understood her triggers just from watching her and witnessing her weaker moments! she didn’t have to spell a damn thing out to him, because he’s perceptive and understands! the moment he patted machi’s head and essentially told her he’d taken notice of the hard work she’s done to become herself and that he’s proud of her for that, i broke. like b r u h. that’s what she NEEDED! he offered to join her in making footprints in the snow! he offered to be there with her so she wouldn’t be trapped in her head as she did it alone! but my favorite part, the most important scene i have been anticipating since i read it in the manga years ago, was when he broke the chalk. without being told, without be asked, without breaking his focus, bringing attention to her, or batting an eye, he reached over mid speech and broke a piece of chalk so she wouldn’t be triggered. it’s such a small gesture with monumental meaning behind it. i love yuchi so much i’m just a big ball of emotions rn please send help
thinking about how so many of the things jonny has written (or helped to write, like the mechanisms’ albums) are about finding joy, peace or some sort of resolution despite the fact that the entire world around you is doomed. spoilers (for albums that dropped years ago to be fair), but think of that prince giving his father a final goodbye while their kingdom-ship drifts into the sun. or the old hero lying down to die next to their wife under the last tree to ever exist, away from the corporation that has found a way to exploit everyone even in death. or, in more recent events, the two men who die, in love and together, while thousands of universes now are at the mercy of the Fears. none of them could have saved their whole universes (and even when they tried, they couldn’t have ensured everything worked according to their plans), but in the middle of extremely painful situations they were able to find a sense of peace, and even love. and tbh as someone growing up in a world of ecological catastrophe and a crumbling economy that’s just. that does something to me
Good evening traveller and welcome to the Bad Place: a 26 minutes long examination of the ethics of saving the world.
I loved Georgie and Basira making their choice via the Socratic method; I loved Melanie and Martin coming to the same conclusion via Vibes Only; I loved Jon’s egotistical argument.
It was fascinating to me to see Jon argue that by shipping the Fears off to thousands of different dimensions we’d be condemning them to save us, and that by snuffing the whole world and its demons we’d at least end the cycle
But he is wrong - and he knew, making that argument, that he wasn’t being honest. Like Melanie and Martin pointed out, what is a definite death sentence for us is just a possibility for other dimensions. They’d have millennia to survive, they have a chance to never start the apocalypse, and they have a chance to pass it on like the world’s worst chain mail:
And as the gang reflects, we don’t actually KNOW anything about the Fears. We don’t know if they’re just in this universe, or if there’s infinite versions of them in infinite worlds, just multiplying to the point that in the great scheme of things what WE do doesn’t matter:
Except. Except it does matter to one person: the guy pulling the lever. It matters to Jon, because the truth of it is that he is living with the guilt of ending the world, and cannot live with the guilt of potentially ending more. He’d rather condemn one world than potentially condemning the multiverse. On the other side, you have Martin: who would rather take the blame, spend the rest of his days feeling guilty and full of regret but still having days to do so.
And the truth of it is there is no right solution: that’s the point!
Whatever they choose (and I think Jon is going to go rogue!) is always going to be unfair to someone. The hand they’ve been dealt is crap no matter what. And while at the moment personal responsibility and own-collective good are battling it out, the one true trolley problem scenario we can all agree on is:
This is most definitely a self call-out bc I don’t post enough about the other amazing Netflix original animated shows I’ve seen.
Ok, I think is time for the Tyrus and Jyrus shippers to get together and demand for Cyrus to get his own storyline, like I get that Cyrus is a supportive friend first and a gay character second but do they honestly want for us to forget he had a crush on Jonah for years now?
Like I get that in season one his sexuality was ambiguous, since neither us or him were sure of his sexuality, but he still had more one on one moments with Jonah then.
But now we know he is gay, he knows he is gay, Buffy and Andi know he is gay, which means they knew Andi kissing Jonah would upset him in at least some degree, and yet they did not address that issue in the whole episode, Andi can be a little bit selfish sometimes but she cares about Cyrus, and Buffy is the leader of the Cyrus protection squad and they not talking to him to make sure that he is ok, that is just completely out of character.
I know that this is a Disney show, so there is certain things we cannot expect but Cyrus just being a background character to all other storylines is just frustrating. Everything we get to see on the season 2B promo is Cyrus talking about Buffy’s crush, Hanging out with Amber and Tj (probably helping them with their own redemption arcs) so there is little time for him to actually be the protagonist of his own story.
So every time I lose a little hope for Tyrus or Jyrus to become cannon.
Oscar nominees Best Animated Feature 2014
Earlier today this article was brought to my attention, in which it becomes clear that some of the Academy voters have little to no respect for the animation industry. They openly admit not having watched the nominated films and/or claiming that animated films are for kids, so they didn’t vote. Even the ones shown in the article that did vote barely motivated their choice.
I find this extremely disrespectful of the animators who poured their heart and soul into making these movies, only to have their work be pushed aside without a second glance by the judges of one of the most prominent and well known film awards out there. As an aspiring animator, I am deeply insulted.
Please note that in this post I am expressing no opinion on whether Frozen should have won or not. I think it’s a wonderful film, just as all the other nominees. I am simply saying that we deserve better.
What they did is disrespectful to the creators of every single one of these films, even Frozen. By barely motivating their choice, they make it look like they voted for Frozen simply because of Disney’s status in the industry. Because it’s Disney, and it made a lot of money, so it had to be at least somewhat good. To me it seems like some of the voters just defaulted to voting for the Disney film, and nobody likes to win by default.
Don’t get me wrong, I too have been guilty of loving Disney simply because it’s Disney, but there is so much more beautiful animation out there and it deserves to be taken into consideration. And if Frozen won, it should have won because the majority of the voters thought it was the best film, not because part of the voters was too lazy to even watch the nominated films.
It kinda bothers me when people say including trans, fat, poc, polysexual, etc. folks can’t be “forced” because (aside from the vagueness of the word) it makes it seem like being critically aware of your own work is bad + forcing it is the only way to get in the habit of it so that it doesn’t feel...
