#the two things that strike me the most about this piece are 1:#the fact that it begins with love#and it ends with love#no matter all the death between#and 2:#the ending three words#love death love#after a string of death#that first love#scared and tentative and weak#but also hopeful#beaten by the death that follows#and yet still. in the end. love#as if to say love? (please please let it be love)#even if there is death#let it end in love#and it's no longer a scared weak or tentative question#but finality#love#love love love

When writing couples, I like to use the Kiss Rule:

  • If they have to kiss for you to know they’re in love, you’re not writing a romance right.

This is along the same lines of one of my favorite quotes from spoken word artist Big Poppa E, one I adhere to regularly in my writing:

“If you can’t write a love poem without using the word ‘love’, you are not a poet, you’re a greeting card salesmen.”
