For those of you who read my fanfiction ‘Flux’ …if you have any scenes or moments you would like to see, please comment or DM me because my tired little brain is struggling to plan out the chapters 😅
My January entry for @yearoftheotpevent - the prompt I chose was ‘Snow’.
Also, I literally wrote this in 3 hours (so sorry if it’s bad 😅)
Summary: "Cora may not have remembered her wedding, but she certainly remembered her first English snow" In the winter of 1890, Cora and Robert take a walk across the grounds one frosty evening, and Robert has something important to tell her.
🍆, 🌞, 🎨 and 🎉
🍆=Do you write the spicy stuffs? If so, what's your most popular nsfw fic?
I most certainly do! Honestly, I kind of love writing NSFW stuff, mostly because of the character study opportunities, but also because I just love exploring relationships on an intimate level. My most popular was technically a Sound of music fanfiction I did called "Better than a dream" but that was because I spent over a year writing it (it was 20 chapters and nearly 140,000 words long!). But I've also had a lot of love for my Cobert NSFW fics, as well as Doctor Who ones and The sound of music.
🌞 = Do you have a preferred time of day to write?
Definitely night time. This is mostly because when I started writing fics, I was still in school, so this was when I had the most free time, so it has always felt like a night time activity. As an adult, I do occasionally write during the day if I can, but i just prefer it at night (as long as I'm not too tired)
🎨 = How do you feel about fan art of your stories?
It honestly makes me feel honoured! I have only ever had someone create fan art of my stories once, but I absolutely loved it and it was such a touching gesture.
🎉 = What leads you to consider a fic a success?
This is a tricky one for me. I think it's a combination of how readers have responded to it and also if I'm proud of it. Reviews are very important to me, because I always need verbal gratification to keep my motivation and confidence up, so knowing that people have liked the story (via reviews or favourites) is a big part of my criteria for a successful fic. But it also has to be a fic that I have enjoyed writing and that I can look back on and say that I am proud of it in some way. It could be because of particular writing technique, because of the story I told, or just the fun I had writing it. It needs to spark joy for me and the readers :)
🤩 and ⏳
🤩 = Who is your favourite character to write?
For Downton Abbey, it would definitely be Cora, although I do prefer to write her alongside Robert. Cora is my favourite DA character, and I feel like she is the glue that holds the Crawley family together, so there is such much to explore with her character - especially with Robert - and that's what I really love. My favourite thing to do with characters is put them in situations you don't see in the show/movie/book/etc and figure out how they react and really explore their character.
⏳=How long does it take you to write a fic or a chapter?
This really depends on a lot of things, usually how much free time I have. Right now I am very lucky that I have quite a lot of time to write. My current WIP is 'Flux'. Usually, when I sit down in the evenings to work on a chapter, I will typically write 1,000 words per night; each chapter of Flux is between 5,000-7,000 words, so a chapter for that will take about a week. But this is *very* efficient for me. (The longest I've worked on a multi-chapter story is 1 year and 3 months!). One average, I probably spend a month or so on average length fics.
For a one-shot, that can be anywhere between one day and a week, depending on my motivation levels and if the one-shot is the only thing I'm working on or if it is something I'm doing alongside a larger multi-chapter story :)
Chapter 7 of my Cobert fanfiction ‘Flux’ has been published on Fanfiction.net
Story summary: What would have happened if Cora never lost her baby in series one? How would her family and friends react to her pregnancy, and how would their lives have changed after the baby was born? Focusing mostly on Robert and Cora throughout her pregnancy.

Random Prompt List
Five days before the end of NANOWRIMO I decided to start a random prompt list. I figured if I did ten a day, I would have fifty when I was done and I could post them for people to use as they saw fit - inspiration, challenges to friends, text on memes….whatever.
I was 100% successful except for the part where I forgot to post then when I was finished. Oops. Rectifying that now! Now, clearly these are rather Downton Abbey themed, but most of them are vague enough to apply to any fandom you like and even where there are names, those can be swapped out, so if you feel something you like for, say, Star Trek or something, don’t feel like it’s off limits. Go for it. If people are having fun, success has been had.

1. “If Mrs. Patmore murders you, I’m telling the jury it was suicide.”
2. “Let the numbers be off! I’m not sitting at the same table as that man!”
3. “Oh bother.”
4. “Downton’s been a convalescence home and a movie studio. Why not this?”
5. “Where are we going to get a spare butler at this time of night?”
6. “There’s not enough wine in the wine cellar for this.”
7. “For the last time, put that back where you found it.”
8. “Just don’t tell the police. Or Carson.”
9. “There is a God!”
10. “Help me with this and you can keep your job.”
11. “I’d bet a year’s wages it was Lady Mary.”
12. “Don’t you dare try to blame this on the dog!”
13. “Just think, we’re getting paid to do this.”
14. “Well, this situation calls for tea. And possibly a bludgeoning instrument of some sort.”
15. “That’s a grand idea. Why don’t we simply teach the dog to carry a tray?”
16. “Did she give in gracefully, or do you need help burying the body?”
17. “Just imagine if we were American and buying nine Worth dresses per season.”
18. “It could be worse, just don’t ask me how.”
19. “Are you certain this is a good idea?”
20. “How many bets Mrs. Patmore quits over this one?”
21. “What sort of mad suggestion are you going to make next? We get a cat?”
22. “Reading? Heavens, don’t hurt yourself.”
23. “You’ve not touched your food. Are you dying?”
24. “Try the blue one instead.”
25. “That’s hideous. Buy it.”
26. “I hate arm garters. Why can’t they just make shirts that fit?”
27. “Knife? Oh no, I slipped and cut myself on a collar.”
28. “I’m not shaving in the dark, I’d be lucky if I slit my throat!”
29. “Oh, well, thank you Sweeny Todd.”
30. “As if you’d survive reading anything less than Milton. A penny dreadful would finish you off!”
31. “You weren’t a son either, so we’re both failures.”
32. “Oh dear, my actions had consequences. Blub blub.”
33. “What’s it like to have parents who care about you?”
34. “You want it so badly? Here. Enjoy.”
35. “What do you mean she’s run away to join the circus?”
36. “Well the surprise worked…”
37. “You’re lucky I love you.”
38. “That is not where that goes!”
39. “Dare I ask what happened to your dress?”
40. “Oh don’t do that, it would make a mess of the roses.”
41. “Dukes don’t just vanish, unfortunately.”
42. “I’m not paid enough to care about that.”
43. “Now that the wireless is catching on, you should try and do something in that field. You have the face for it.”
44. “Are you going to sell me into slavery if I ask for more?”
45. “If you want me to love you more then stop screaming when I have a headache.”
46. “Oh don’t do that! You’ll hurt yourself.”
47. “Oh go for it, I won’t tattle.”
48. “I was just committing the unholy sin of enjoying life for a few seconds.”
49. “Would it kill you to smile? Wait, never mind, of course it would.”
50. “Does anyone in this house happen to have some spare sanity?”
I have turned prompt number 11 (“I’d bet a years wages it was Lady Mary”) into a raunchy Cobert one shot!

"Golly, the room is staring to spin a bit"
"That's probably from all the wine" Cora teased.
"I'm sure it's more to do with your erratic prancing"
"Erratic prancing that you started"
"Touché"
They sat in befuddled silence for a while and allowed their breathing to slow, and Robert had hoped that the gentle tilt and spin of the walls would cease…it didn't.
"It was nice to see Mary and Matthew so happy this evening. There was a lot of strain between them when they found out about the estate" Robert commented as he blinked slowly in an effort to steady the spin of the drawing room.
"It was. I'm glad they aren't at odds anymore"
"They could be a little more subtle, though" he tittered.
"Matthew could be a little more subtle, you mean" Cora laughed – her head heavy from all of the wine.
"It's nice to see them happy, I just hope they don't flaunt it in front of poor Edith too much"
"If they do, I'm sure they don't realise it. Don't you remember what it was like to be young and so in love?" Cora asked him dreamily, her eyes now half-lidded from her inebriation.
Robert gave her a sloppy smile of his own. He didn't always like to think of the early days of their marriage, as his reasons for pursuing her would often wrack him with so much guilt that he felt like he'd been unfair to her. And the first year of their marriage had been filled with formality more than bliss. No, he didn't like to think of those times. But after their first year, when he had realised that he'd fallen in love with her, oh that was when the bliss truly began. When they realised what it was like to love each other and to feel that love so strongly.
"I remember it very well" he purred – inching his way closer to her.
"All those dinners we spent desperately avoiding each other's eye so that your mother wouldn't chastise us"
"Or when she caught us kissing in the library"
Cora gasped at the memory and once again blushed ferociously.
"Anyone would have thought she'd caught us doing the dead itself" she laughed.
"Well, we've certainly done that in the library before" Robert hummed, his eyes beginning to darken with the first stages of arousal.
"And a few other places around the house" added Cora as her cheeks became flushed with a brilliant shade of red.
She caught her husband's eye and instantly knew the look that he was giving her; it was the look he always gave her when he wanted her. She had seen it countless times throughout their marriage, often in the privacy of their bedroom, but it was not uncommon for her to catch a glimpse of it across the dinner table or when they found themselves alone in the house with nothing to do. Suddenly the air between them grew thick like tar, and the growing want between them became suffocating.
He was on her in a moment, practically pouncing on her and crashing his lips into hers hungrily.
This was supposed to be a short one shot 💀
(And it’s not even finished yet)
Chapter four of my cobert fanfiction ‘Flux’ has just been posted 🥰
Downton … has it faded away, changed beyond recognition, run its course?
I have barely seen anything here lately, though I’ve been pretty absent myself, having felt so disillusioned with the DA2 film plot that i haven’t even watched it. What seems clear, though, is that, even if JF writes another script (is there any talk of that?) Thomas Barrow is gone, finito, sparito, nada, bye-bye, so what’s the point … ?
When you say ‘Downton’, do you mean the series or the fandom?
The series is over. The second movie was absolutely the end and they made no secret about it. They ended the TV series because Dame Maggie didn’t want to do it anymore and they knew if they killed her off they’d lose their audience. The first movie ended with a big ol’ “Yup, we’re doing it people. We’re letting her retire.” And then they did.
The best review I heard of it, honestly, was “Is it pretty? Yes. Is it basically fan service? Yes. Do we care? No.”
It’s basically fan service.
JF went through a list of ‘what people have been saying they wanted since the end of season six’, gave us as much as he could possibly work into two hours, and then ended it. So yeah, it’s done.
Hell, given the difficulty they’ve had even getting the cast together for the past two movies, I doubt they could pull off a third one if they wanted to. Certainly not without killing off Henry.
The Fandom is still here. It’s not even really changed.
Okay, yes, a lot of Richard’s Boyfriend Thomas fans in particular went “OMG! YOU MEAN AFTER YEARS OF US YELLING ABOUT HOW THOMAS NEEDED TO GET A BOYFRIEND AND LEAVE DOWNTON, HE ACTUALLY GOT A BOYFRIEND AND LEFT DOWNTON?!?! HOW COULD YOU DO SUCH A THING JF YOU ABSOLUTE BASTARD YOU SUCK!” and then went storming off, but it wasn’t all of us. Not by a long shot! Go over to Ao3 you’ll find new fiction. Hell, you won’t even be restricted to Thomas/Guy. There’s still new Thomas/Richard and Thomas/Jimmy. I’ve even seen Thomas/Original Character and….pretty sure some Thomas/Edward.
Thomas/Jimmy is still the main Thomas ship. Probably always will be.
I feel like I’ve maybe seen more cross overs than before, but that’s about it.
OH!
And we picked up a really good Thomas/Richard artist. Like, drawing artwork. You should check that out.
But yeah, there have been 27 updated pieces on Ao3 in 2023, and we’re only on day four! Okay, not all of it is Thomas related - it never is - and a lot of it has been going on for months at least, but that’s still a lot of activity for a year this young.
Now, I can’t say if it’s run it’s course for you personally. That’s up to you. But if it hasn’t, it’s still here for you to enjoy.
Also? I would encourage you to see the movie before you judge it. There’s at least one very good writer who started out disillusioned by it all based on rumors and clips, but then, after seeing it, has adjusted and started turning out some very good work. I won’t say that it’s the best as far as story telling, because there’s only so much you can do getting two, month long plots into one film, but for what they did, they did a bang up job, and if you want a happy ending…*shrug*
I for one am dealing with a case of burnout, but I’m far from gone. Hell, I finally finished a full rough draft of my Thomas as heir piece this past NANOWRIMO. This year, once I can think straight, I’m going to start on revisions. And there will be short pieces in and around that. God willing and the creek don’t rise, I’ll actually make it to the UK this year. That alone should spark some inspiration.
This!
All fandoms going through phases where they fade away, it is simply the nature of things, since no flame can burn forever. But ours is far from extinguished. The mark of a great piece of art is one that continues to inspire fans new and old, regardless of how much time passes - that is exactly what Downton does. It will continue to draw people in an inspire them.
So, even if we have to watch things slow down a little, I doubt we have many years to come before we see it stop.
