Celebrating the first 50 One Piece Moments!! (Part 1/2)

It's been almost a year since I started this blog, and though my following is small compared to my main blog, I'm incredibly proud of my creations and whatever love they've received. It's a fun little project where the Toei anime, original manga, English dub, Shueisha manga colorization, and Viz translations can all be appreciated simultaneously.

Most colored volumes don't have fan releases that include official translations and redraws, so most of the panels seen here I had to redraw myself. Even though my posts [usually] only consist of one panel, I try to redraw SFX for the full page if I feel it won't consume too much of my time, so I'm posting full pages here where applicable.

One Piece — "Scars on the back are a swordsman's shame."

From Volume 6- Chapter 51 / Season 1 Episode 24. On the Baratie, the Straw Hats have a surprise encounter with "Hawk Eye" Dracule Mihawk, the greatest swordsman in the world. Being one of the Seven Warlords of the sea, the crew did not expect to meet someone like him until they get into the Grand Line, and become much stronger. But Roronoa Zoro is not the kind of man to avoid Mihawk until it's safe to fight him. Prepared to die, he faces off against him. Floored by the difference in skill between them, he loses without ever landing a hit. Still, Mihawk is impressed by Zoro's ambition, and slays him in a manner that he can survive, hoping that one day Zoro will get much stronger and have a rematch.
