Fog

The fog was thick, that kind of fog that reminded people of horror movies and silent Hill games. It did not help there was an eerie silence as well, like all the animals in the rocky landscape had collectively decided to flee. Those that could not huddled in the sparse trees or in hidden dens, both the predators and prey. It was creepy to find several birds hunkered down on a low branch, fluffed to keep warm and watching the new comer. They were not startling the birds off, something else in the fog kept them quiet.

There was a sudden sound, something that was startling sharp, like metal dragging against stone. As that sound slowed, there was a deep rumble that was half way to thunder…above. Somewhere on the closer hills two red lights flashed bright, hazy from the fog but just enough to see one red light was brighter than the other, and then the lights dimmed away again, as if going behind the odd rock formations.

Unknown to the new comer, the metallic being watch, debating on if that would be enough to scare them off. So very few came around here.
