Hi! I just had an idea and you’re the first omegaverse blog I follow that came to mind to rant to! Honestly I have no idea if this has already been done (it probably has) but I was thinking about how Omegas having extended contact with other omegas might be very important for their hormone balance etc. lots of skin on skin contact and cuddling/nesting is good for them BUT then I was struck with the idea of a ‘cuddle loop!’

Imagine two (or more) omegas scenting each other and rolling around in a nest all happy and safe, kinda halfway between consciousness and a ‘happy drop’. They keep pumping out pheromones and scenting each other, purring up a storm! I guess you can imagine mutual scent bombing which is a concept that’s been done a lot. But they kind of get stuck! They are drugging each other with all these happy brain drugs and they can’t ’wake up!’ They need someone to rescue them from the cuddle loop or they might forget to eat or drink.

Think an adorable version of a rat king haha.

Sorry for this weird rant? I was just consumed by it like I was possessed by the omegaverae Gods!

Dawg, this is quite literally one of the best headcanons that I have ever seen with my own two eyeballs.

ADORABLE RAT KING!!!!!!!

No fr, this is amazing. I always liked the idea of Alphas or Omegas being so happy they go feral but happily, so much like your happy drop.

I love this concept so much. I'm gonna explode. Literally going to use this concept in some of my roleplays and writings.

I feel like I don’t see enough omegas taking care of their alphas in the a/b/o community. Alphas are always portrayed as being the caretakers of their omegas, but what about alphas who have poor memory? Alphas who sometimes can’t even wash their hair? Give me more omegas preening their alphas. Give me more omega encouragement to sad or depressed alphas. Give me omegas nudging their alpha’s favorite food at them to get them to eat. Give me omegas washing their Alpha’s hair in the bath.

Caregiving goes both ways!!

My fave part of my own omegaverse meta is that omegas do not just build nests for themselves, but for their loved ones too. As an omega I hate how the caretaker aspect of (at least, the stereotypical gender roles hypothetically imposed on omegas) is downplayed amongst ourselves to make us seem like we can't reciprocate the way others dote on us.

Hi! I really appreciate your blog it's very helpful. I was wondering if you could give me a more in-depth explanation on Alpha voice and how it works? Also does nesting correlate with heat or pregnancy or is it just a common Omega trait? Thank you for your time!xxx

So for Alpha voice, @purrmoon made a post with an explanation of it here. Read that because that's essentially how I use it too.

Another thing I would like to tact on though, is that Alphas don't only use it to command control. It helps calm down people who are panicked or going feral. It's the quickest way to snap someone back to reality basically. Think of it as being the equivalent of smelling salts, funnily enough.

And it's just a common Omega trait. Some Omegas have a stronger need to nest while there are others who don't feel the need to do it at all. Just depends on the Omega I guess.

Any nesting hcs? I’ll take literally anything because I’m nest deprived in quarantine because everybody in my family is home so I’m lacking pillows and blankets. All I want to do is nest!!!! -a nest deprived Beta

Is this four years old? Yes. So sorry for the late response. Lol. I hope you have been able to get more pillows and blankets since then.

Anyways, here are some random nest headcanons.

  • Hoarding is common in people who nest. It's neither bad nor good, it's just common. That blanket you had since middle school that has holes and stains? You're taking that to the grave.
  • I know this has been mentioned before, but there are for sure sorts solely dedicated to nesting materials. There are gimmicky ones where it's like if you have a whimsical-themed nest or if you like superheroes. Think BTS, Spider-Man, or Minecraft inspired nest materials. lol
  • In my au, beds and nests are often separate. It's not uncommon for someone to nest in bed or for the nest to become the bed. I view nests as an almost sacred thing. It's a place for pure isolation with or without a partner, a safe space.
  • ^ A follow-up; You will often find nests in corners of rooms, closets, bathrooms, basements, or generally anywhere that would be dimmed and cool/hot. Depends on the person. The most important part is that there's enough room for the nester and partner. If they have pups, there needs to be room for them too.
  • A lot of older houses have designated areas for nests. They are often filled in or forgotten about, seeing as nester has free range of where they wanna nest.
  • Nesters make different nests in different spots. Depending on their moods, they will switch up where they relax.
  • Nests aren't strictly for mating, contrary to popular belief. However, sometimes a nester will make nests for specific purposes; sex, sleep, birthing, etc.
  • Nesting can also be done platonically. "Come over bestie, we're nesting."
  • To nest is to bond, not like "bond", but to have time together. Hence it's so easy to have platonic and/or romantic relationships in them.
  • This is just random, but I feel like the textile industry would be as hell profitable compared to any other business.
  • There would often be a lot of new technologies for nests. Quick drying or slick-proof sheets, temperature-controlled nest mattress, scent pods, new textures being created.

Hope these suffice. 🫡

Hiii, love your posts!, I got a question, how do you think a house of Omega roomates would react if one of them secretly let their Alpha bf/gf in their room a bf/gf that the other roomies/friends didn't know of? (my god this sounds like hiding a puppy)

I guess it depends on the roommate rules? Lol.

I suppose if it's in a world where Omega spaces are very sacred and a non-mutually invited Alpha comes into that space, it would cause problems. Like maybe they panic or just get confused because why is there a random Alpha scent without warning.

Maybe nothing happens? It just really depends on what you want to happen.

Omega Nesting Materials

Depending on your verse canon specifics nesting materials can differ greatly!

Not only can they differ from omega to omega but also one should take into consideration to the climate in which one lives in as well!

For this reason, it can be assumed that there are certain fabrics that are used in nests can be seasonal. Sort of having a combination of fabrics for each of the seasonal changes or over arching weather climates.

You’ll find that most nests contain fabrics that are cotton based for their versatility in both warmer and colder climates. Omegas who tend to run hotter or live in a climate that is mostly warmer temperatures with most likely have nesting materials that are cotton, linen, and some wool blends. While summer nests might not be as big and cushy they tend to have more materials draped around said nest like see through curtains, mesh netting, or silk panels. This gives the illusion of a cozy nest without sacrificing airflow or feeling exposed and vulnerable.

For omegas that might run cooler or live in colder climates, they will tend to have a larger hoard of nesting materials. Like a summer nest, likely materials would include cotton and wool blends. But here’s where things can get interesting!

Consider that omegas in colder climates or in the dead of winter will be drawn to having faux fur and silks as a part of their nesting hoard. There’s just something uniquely primal about the presence of fur in the nest. Unlike a summer nest a winter nest will have significate walls, going back to the primal need to protect them and potential young from winds. Winter nests will contain more pillows and plush to help with the structure integrity of the nest.

Be mindful about gifting the right sort of fabrics as gifts to your omega and don’t be alarmed if you don’t see that gift for a season! An omega will know best what works for their nesting habits and will deeply treasure anything that is gifted to them by their special someone. Talk with them, learn their likes and dislikes, and then happy hunting!

Omegas with ADHD?

There's a reason why it took me three years to answer this. So I feel like this was a call-out and I'm offended, but I'mma still give you headcanons.

  • Omegas forgetting to make nests or preparing for their heats because they hyperfocused on their lastest fixation.
  • They would forget to track their cycle, which often leads them to have no supplies when heat comes.
  • Trinkets, they have way too many of them in their nests. Room for their partner/mate? Hell no, room for only trinkets and probably squishmellows.
  • Their mate constantly finding things their Omega has lost all over the house.
  • Sometimes people will look at them off because they aren't quiet. They will talk a lot and speak out of turn, which the older generation wouldn't be cool with.
  • If they have prepared for their heats, then they will forget a shitload of things that they would actually need. Really only getting things that make them happy instead of being practical.
  • There are nests everywhere, but most of them aren't made up completely. Like sometimes it's just a blanket or a nest bottom.
  • I feel like in general, Omegas are often really happy or at least bubbly. So when they are on medication it is toned down and people often get concerned.
  • Them often fixing their nest or adding to it constantly.

Honestly, those are really the only ones I can think of. If anyone has more to add, feel free to reblog this point and share!

Can I get a headcanon list for an omega who used to be with an abusive alpha that always destroyed their nests so they just stopped making them? They eventually end up with a loving alpha and the alpha just can't figure out why the omega is afraid to make a nest of any kind. How would the alpha react upon finding out? How would the alpha help?

So, I’ve had this ask for four years. There’s just so many ideas I could do and I think that’s why it’s taken me so long, lol.

  • To start I just hope that abusive Alpha gets a heft dose of karma.
  • For one, the omega more than likely has some type of anxiety disorder and the severity depends.
  • Nesting is known to help those with mood disorders calm and cope. So without that outlet, the Omega suffers pretty severely.
  • Instead of nesting, I think the only outlet for the Omega is going feral or something called dropping
  • I feel like generally the Alpha would react poorly. Everyone knows how important it is for an Omega to nest because it is directly linked to their mental health, how they bond/mate, and later, if they so choose, birth and having pups.
  • I think the Omega would either tell their Alpha or the Alpha would slowly realize that they don’t make them for their Heats or general comfort/anxiety.
  • It will take time for the Omega to trust their Alpha.
  • The Alpha will probably slowly start bringing in nesting materials for their partner to encourage them to start nesting.
  • For sure they’d also try to make a nest for them, ask them to join in it.
  • Of course they probably ask them to go to therapy and to talk them so they can help as best as they can.

Otherwise, there will be a lot of communication and it will take time, but the Omega will be okay. They’ll have good days and bad days until eventually they’re okay and truly happy.

Headcanons for pups during finals week~

(Our finals are just around the corner and AM is graduating and I’m two semesters away from graduating!)

-Beta pups are the most stressed out teenager/college students ever. Most of them have a perfectionist complex, so they’re the ones wanting to make all As.

-Omega pups are the second most stressed especially if they’re not studiously inclined. These omega teens will tucker themselves out studying all night before a test and then need to sleep the next couple of days after their last final.

-Alpha pups go one of two ways. They either don’t care or they know they’re going to be fine. Confidence runs high in alpha teens.

-Parents to a beta pup will help them study, have them take little breaks, make sure they have brain healthy foods and whatnot. If their puppy wants to go all out, by God they’re going all out!

-Parents to an omega pup will try to be as reassuring as possible. They’ll say things like it’s okay if you fail, I know you tried so hard and no one is going to be upset with you. And then when their pup brings back a C, they celebrate so hard and get them their own little cupcake because they tried so hard. And if they fail, their parents are reassuring and say it’s okay and you’ll never be homeless it’s okay you can live with Mama and Dad forever if you need to.

-Parents to alpha pups have the least to worry about most of the time. If their pup is really struggling with something, they’ll sit down and go over it with them to the best of their ability. They don’t cram as much as they would do with a beta pup, but they definitely help them as much as they need.

-Schools try to make finals seem like not the end of the world and they put a ton of other grades in to cushion any bad test takers because there’s no reason to fail a class just because you’re not very good at taking tests.

Level One: The Terms

Again, just the basics. You can find more in-depth definitions as well, but this will give you enough clarity to read your typical Wattpad or AO3 story without needing a dictionary every five minutes.

*the definitions below stem from wolf behavior, but not all omegaverse fics include wolves, and still, some have other kinds of were-animals. If you want to use a transformation other than wolves, it might be fun to do some research on your animal of choice.

Scents: In omega versus, people have scents that allow them to lay their claim on things, places, and other people. Families, packs, and mates will scent each other to kindship between each other. In many fics, alphas will scent an emotional object for their beta/omega as a way to always be close. These pheromone glands can be found behind ears, on necks, wrists, feet, hands, and genitalia.

Nests: the instinct or urge to prepare a comfortable/safe area for newborn pups (babies) or ahead of a mating period/season. I have also read fics where nests were just used as safe spaces, regardless of upcoming pregnancies, etc.. Stereotypically, omegas do the nesting. They may fill their nest with sentimental/comforting items, bedding, scented objects from loved ones, etc..

Bonds: Typically written as an alpha bite to the neck in a visible area, so when a scar forms the rest of the "pack" knows that said person is now off the market. Can also signify a lifelong mental/emotional bond. Omegas are easiest to bond when they are in heat, but this is not always observed.

Mates: The term for people in a romantic relationship. Commonly used to signify soulmates and couples who have been bonded, but this is not always observed.

*a common trope of Omegaverse writing is that two people find out that they are mates, but they aren't into each other/completely against the idea.

Ruts: Commonly observed in alphas. A period of time (usually 4-8 days) in which a person will feel an overwhelming desire to breed and dominate. Can be brought on by the scent of another person in heat, or linked to a monthly cycle. Can be dangerous, as the alpha may become physically/sexually violent towards those around them. If mated, the alpha may become overbearingly protective towards their mate. Symptoms can be eliminated by copulation, bonding, and knotting.

Heats: Most often observed in omegas, heat is a period of time (usually anywhere between 3-8 days) in which fertility is the highest. This is accompanied by elevated arousal, temperature, pheromone potency, and lack of appetite. Symptoms can be eliminated/decreased by copulation, skin-to-skin contact, rest, and in some stories, medication.

Knots: The expansion at the base of an alpha's genitalia that allows them to be connected to their partner during copulation so that their sperm can stay locked in, increasing the chance of pregnancy.

Slick: Self-lubrication commonly made by omegas during heat. The amount that is released depends upon the author.

Small Omegaverse Nuances;

Classrooms at the elementary level are ✨soft✨. They’re kind of like giant nests. Kids sit on pillows/blankets on the floor with low desks. The ceilings are usually on the low-side to feel more “cave” like. Cause something something evolution. Around 4th grade the classrooms get less soft and more similar to what we’re familiar with. Kindergarten? That’s a glorified pillow-infested bounce house, that’s what that is.

My Lore: Nesting

With their ancestors being defenders of the den Omegas have powerful and specific nesting habits. Though a nice smelling bottom layer of blankets and pillows is necessary a nest needs a top cover to be complete. Most omegas achieve this with a weighted blanket.

An omega with the space might invest in a proper nesting bed with a bowl shaped mattress and blackout canopy. If an Omega makes their nest on top of a regular mattress can buy bed guards to keep their nest from falling off.

It's very common for multi-Omega homes to join their nests.

Pups are also keen nesters though they're usually happy enough with a heavy blanket to cover themselves while they sleep and fluffy pillows. If they're seeking comfort they'll bury themselves in the nest of their favorite Omega.

Adult Beta and Alphas often use nesting as a way to sooth anxiety and depression were they wouldn't usually have the urge to build one.

Can you do headcanons about a light sensitive omega nesting??

Hmmmmm, I really don't know much about light sensitivity and if it goes along with anything else. So if someone else could add more headcanons to this list, I'd really appreciate it.

  • They would have their nest in a closed-off space. Like a closet, basement, or under a high bed.
  • I could imagine them having one of those beds that have four posts with curtains all around but lower to the ground and with a top.
  • String lights!!!
  • I would say candles, but I would be afraid that it would set fire to all the light-blocking prevention. Electric tea lights in those holders that make light shapes.
  • I feel like while they stop a lot of light from getting in with dark curtains or being in a dark room, their blankets and pillows will be very light-colored to pastels probably.
  • Incenses.
  • They are also very particular about how they make their nest.
  • If they have a mate, and in my AU mates often help in nesting for heats and whatnot, they probably won't really ask their mates for help.
  • I would think that when they have a heat, they would make it as dark as possible in their little cocoon.
  • Glow in the dark stuffies, shirts, socks, little things so they could have some light source of some kind.
  • Oh my god, glow sticks.

Different Nests Aesthetics

1. Neat

Neat nests refer to nests that appear organized and mostly just consist of pillows and blankets rather than clothes and other materials as well.

2. Complex (messy)

Complex nests, also known as messy nests, contain an excess amount of not only blankets and pillows, but personal belongs, like articles of clothing and stuffed animals. They generally appear to look disorganized, hence called messy.

3. Princess

Princess nest is a relatively new and modern term. It refers to nests that are surround by fairy lights, drapes, and/or tapestries.

4. Ring

Ring nests are nests in small spaces. Generally in closets, under staircases, and in handmade spaces.
