I find it hilarious that Sam was thinking about whether he should date Rachel or not before Mercedes show-up. But the minute Mercedes showed-up, Sam forgot all about Rachel. Instead he went looking for songs that he can use to serenade Mercedes with.
Like Sam said during their first break-up, he will always want Mercedes over other girls.
