Anathema has regular girl's nights with the ladies from Tadfield. They're a group of 6-8 women aged 25 to 92 who meet up at her cottage to drink, bitch about their significant others and have fun - they occasionally watch movies, do face masks, sometimes even knit or do crafts...but they get absolutely plastered every single time, no exceptions.
- One day, Anathema invites Crowley on a whim because she thought it would be fun, she thought he might need something new to spend his time with since the couple had moved to South Downs but Aziraphale still regularly opened his bookshop in London. She didn't even think he would accept - but he shows up, two bottles of wine in one hand and a plate of chocolate croissants Aziraphale made in the other.
- Anathema had been a bit nervous because they live in a small village, she had no idea about how those ladies will react to Crowley having a HUSBAND, but everyone has been smitten with him and his stories about how absolutely perfect Aziraphale is.
- Especially Margaret, 92 years of age but still young at heart and a mischievous twinkle in her eye, has taken a liking to that gangly, way too slim, wannabe badass gentleman who is way more insecure than he would like to admit and she is an absolute expert in coaxing even the most embarrassing and perhaps a little naughty stories out of Crowley.
- She was also the first one to speak up when someone asked Crowley about his wife and he nervously stammered something along the lines of "well, I...I...you see, I'm married but I have a husband, I know it's probably something you won't approve of, so...should I leave?" to which she replied "Sit down young man, most of us might be ancient but we're quite capable of being nice and accepting, besides you brought booze and sweets, now stay here and let's get shit-faced!", so that's exactly what he did.
- So now, once or twice a month they all meet in Anathema's cottage, eagerly awaiting Crowley's arrival. They drink, play bingo, on one memorable occasion Crowley did all their nails and failed to do his own because he was too drunk in the end so Margaret picked a lovely blood-red that fit the colour of his collar and painted his nails with a steady hand.
- All the ladies can't wait to get four drinks into Crowley because that's when he gets talkative, that's when he proudly shows pictures of his husband around and tells them how good he is with their pets, how infuriating he is when someone messes with his books, how talented he is in the kitchen but he hardly shares anything he creates, how kind he is when Crowley has a bad day, how talented he is with his-well, that's a story for another round of truth or dare, isn't it, ladies?
- He tells them they want to get some chicken but he has no idea how to handle them, so two of the ladies who have some themselves tell him everything he needs to know and show him where their chicken live, letting Crowley take a lot of pictures so "my husband can build a shed himself, he's quite nifty with his hands you know, built all the bookshelves himself".
- Crowley quickly realises he can drop his aloof and arrogant persona once he's with them and it's a relief. So far, Aziraphale had been the only one who got to see his true self and ever since they got married and moved into their cottage, he has grown more and more tired of the persona he had created for the public but he still hardly ever dares to let go of it. Now, he has found another safe haven to be his true self (minus the demon part, because he doesn't want to be responsible for those dear ladies' death because he scared them so much) and he loves it. His safe haven might be a bit unusual - a witch and eight (mostly) elderly, shrieking ladies - but he feels safe and at home with them.
