Such a lovely weather outside, even though it's too hot ^^ My exam time is coming, so the May Challenge have to be shortened^^ Day 27 - What subjects do you find easiest? Every thing with biology except immunology. Every thing with virology, microbiology, molecular biology, development biology and genetics. I love all molecular pathways, they fascinate me even if some of them are really difficult! All this connection between chemical properties and genetic trait makes me feel overwhelming! Guess I'm just crazy 😁 (or is it just exam period) Day 28 - What's your dream life like? I think we had it already.. a house close enough to the big city and far enough to live in green, ready with PhD and having job, having a couple of children with current fiance, living not too far away from my family... But I don't really plan it, anything could happen. Day 29 - Why did you start a studyblr? I found some pretty notes on Pinterest, accidentally. And I came to Tumblr.. and all these pretty notes fascinate me and inspire and motivate to learn even more. Also I found even some good advices here. And I love the community here, you make me feel like I belong here. Thank you for this ❤ Day 30 - What inspires you? Life! Enthusiasm for knowledge, my family, nature and beauty, imagination and books (including biographies). Call me romantic but I want to help people contributing to researches which could help to fight diseases. Day 31 - Look back at your goals from day 3. How did you? Pretty well, I still stuck on genetics, but I still have time until than to finish it, one sketch is ready and need to be outlined and the other picture is ready, so it's okay. Not the best result, but it's fine ^^
Aren'tmy lecture notes very fancy? xD We should be ready at 13:30 and it was 14:06! And it took 20 more minutes till the end '^^ So this diagram shows how the infection agent, e.g. bacteria, this happy little creature, sprads out some infections out of its basket running on the eucaryotic DNA.. =P May Study Challenge Day 25 - What's somethin you're trying to improve on? I try to improve myself every day ;) Well I would really like to improve my drawing skills (no, its not THAT bad xD) and I think I have to refresh my language skills someday... May Study Challenge Day 26 - What's your style? What do you like to wear? Clothes? ;) Everything that's comfy enough^^
May Study Challenge Day 24 - At what part of the day do you usually study?
Any time when I’m not too tired or not too busy with something else ;) But I refer early morning. Today I had no lectures - my first norma sleep in two weeks. So I started later and well, I just finished for today^^ So it depends on when I can take time for studying. But usually I’m too sleepy in the late evening time to do anything.
May Study Chellenge Day 23 - What type of learner are you? How does this translate to your study methods? I'm definitely a visual learner! I have to see pictures so I can make some kind of movies in my mind and imagine how it works. Writing down what I learn in my own words or shorter than in the book or on the slides helps me to memorize better and putting pictures beside the text helps to request information faster. I'm also a kinetic learner and need to try out methods in the lab to understand better how they work (who doesn't). I guess that's why I couldn't study philosophy further - there hardly things you can picture (metaphysics stuff)
May Study Challenge Day 21 - Who do you consider a role model? Why?
I don't have any role model. I think every person should aspire to be better person than yesterday but not to be like someone else. Uniqueness is the greatest gift in our life. The only person I admire is also the person who supports me - my Mom. She've been a hell through for her children, she is intelligent and smart, she has diploms in metallurgy and psychology. She is strong and direct though she is also a thoughtful mother. And even now, when she is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis she doesn't give up
May Study Challenge Day 21 - Do you prefer to write with pencil or pen? Why?
I used to write with pencils in Finnish school because everyone had to and that’s when I learned to love good pencils^^ But in Germany I got used to write with fountain pens, the great thing about it I don’t have to press it on the paper so when I have to write a lot I just need a good shape of the fountain pen. And when I do some rough notes from the book or I write down the questions like on this pic I do it with normal pen because I have tons of them at home xD
May Study Challenge Day 20 - What’s something you enjoy doing outside of school? Do you ever have any conflict between academics and hobbies?
What? There are other things outside of the university? Nah, just kidding. Well except every minute and second I enjoy with my boyfriend (guess it doesn’t count as a hobby) I love my cutypies - my leopardgeckos Cleo and Neffy. Holding a terrarium is a kind of hobby.. Then I have my carnivorous plants like venus flytrap and other greenies (5 species and Aloe vera^^) I also had a bonsai tree, but I left it in Germany (my brother is very happy about it). And then there are my relaxing hobbies like crocheting, reading and painting^^ Of course I don't have enough time for all my hobbies but I think that hobbies are for filling free time and not the way around ^^ (of course I care daily about my geckos)
What you going to do if your tablet's battery is dead? - writing messy notes and trying to come along with the lecture.. May Study Challenge Day 19 - What's your daily routine? I have lectures at different times, so there isn't actual routine in my life. All in all I can say I get up, eat my breakfast, drink my coffee, go to the lectures, learn between lectures, come home hungry as a bear, two times a week I can see my boyfriend cooking us something, other times I doit, than I relax a hour or so and study a couple of hours, than it is already about 10 p.m. and I watch Netflix and crochet or I just read a book. When I don't have to wake up early and my boyfriend is at home, we can also play some computer games or just watch Netflix together. That's it, because I'm actually from 8 a.m. till 5 or 6 p.m. at the university.. and my weekends are filled with cleaning our flat, doing laundry and doing some weekend shopping. But it contains also more studying at home, shopping (tomorrow I'll visit out stationary shop^^) or going to library and thousands other things to do, so not time at all, can someone add one day into the week?
Theologist, psychologist and biologist are walking into the park.. and they talk about everything and have really cool time together! xD Had a great day in the Park of Freud near the Votive Church studying and meeting new interesting students^^ May Study Challenge Day 18 - Do you like background noise while studying, or doyou prefer it to be silent? I you listen to music, what's your playlist? I listen to music while I sum up my notes. But this week I don't want to listen to any music at all. I gues I just have not enough sleep and to much concentraton and no time for music this week =)
8 a.m. in Vienna... May Study Challenge Day 15 - What subject is hardest for you? How do you go about studying for it? Maths... And I can understand it only if I find someone to study with, who can explain it to me. It is also important to do exercises regularly. At the moment it is difficult to learn immune biology. So I just take enough time for it =) May Study Challenge Day 16 - What's your favourite study method? I think we had it already in the April challenge - I write all notes on my tablet during the lecture, then I sum up my notes and the skript and all books in a notebook. And when I'm ready I use flashcards and do all old test through. May Study Challenge Day 17 - Do you prefer group projects or individual one? Why? I like both! It's fun to do stuff in the lab together, but I prefer to do assignments alone. It also depends on who I get as a partner, some people aren't relyable at all =(
Well this have been a really crazy week! My parents visited me and a lot of appointments... and now I have to catch up with my studies! May Challenge Day 12 - How has the studyblr community affected your studying in reallife? I definitely feel more motivated! It feels really good to know that I am not the only person who makes extra notes, I even get here inspirations from other bloggers here! And the community is very nice and intelligent. I even thinking about starting a bullet journal, so you all are very contagious ina positive way! May Challenge Day 13 - What's your favourite song at the moment? At the moment I don't listen any music at all, ask me this question in a week or something ;) I thing I'll buy Lindsay Stirling's last album and Eurovision Song Contest 2017 album^^ May Challenge Day 14 - What tips do you have for other students who are in your grade specifically? Hey students out there! We almost did it! One more year and we all have our bachelor degree! so don't give up. And if you need longer than other students - take your time, you are not first and not the last personwho doesn't make it in time ;)
I don't need to go to gym as long as I use Campbell.. May Study Challenge Day 10 - How long do youspend studying and doing homework each day? It always depends on how long I have lectures during the week and how many other tasks I have during the weekend. At least 2 hours when I don't have time I guess.. And 6 hours (up to 8 hours) when I want to be progressive on the weekend day.. I won't come much further this week as my parents and my sister are going to visit me this weekend (yay!) so I'll just add some extra study shifts next week...
May Study Challenge Day 9 - How do you keep yourself motivated to study for a class when the teacher or professor is bad (i.e. mean or doesn’t teach effectively)?
hmm... Let’s see...
If you have just some teacher/lecturer who can’t really explain their subject then you have to do some additional researches. Try to find some book (not school book or recommended literature) which explains subject easily, even if there are only basics, sometimes it’s enough for better understanding of the whole stuff.
However there are subjects some people can’t learn alone. Mine was maths. Don’t be ashamed to get help! Talk with your family and friends and if they can’t help you, then you have to find a tutor. At least in Germany, many students think that only losers with bed marks go to tutors. And as a tutor I can say - no. There are many students who want to improve their marks, but also to understand their subjects. I had one guy in biology, with tutoring he became the best in his year!
Testing my new watercolors... *sigh* so may things to do and so little time
May Study Challenge Day 5 - How do you sit while you’re studying? What’s your chair like where you study?
I have normal desk/office chair with armrests, quit soft and not too big. I also sometimes study on the couch in the living room when I don’t need to be concentrated.
May Study Challenge Day 6 - How much of your stationary and study materials travel with you to your class? How much is left at your study place?
Usually I have free time between my lectures (1-3 hours) and I use it for making notes and proper summing up of the lectures. My pencil case is always full though I mostly only take what I need to make notes.
May Study Challenge Day 7 - What is one good experience you’ ve had within the last week?
All in all it’s been a strange week, with small amount of lectures but many happenings.. And my best experience was celebration of my Dad’s birthday of course^^
No lectures today but a lot of tasks to do at home! Let the day begin ;)
May Study Challenge Day 3 - What are your goals for this month?
To sum up Genetics aaaand I have to finish 2 ordered pictures for the websites^^
May Study Challenge Day 4 - May is AP Exam season! What are your tips for studying for tests?
Lucky me, I have no exams this month^^ Most tips are simple, but they are not simple to follow - try to have a good breakfast, get enough sleep, set your priorities (parties can be also made after the test) and don’t spend too much time on tumblr - get your motivation and go go GO! =)
Wanted to sum up Genetics.. ended with doodeling amino acids.. oh well.. May Study Challenge Day 2 - What's yourlife philosophy, in one paragraph or less? I cannot say that I really have one. But there are some rules in my life: 1. Family always comes first. Help them as good as you can, you have only one. 2. Live your dream and never give up BUT stay realistic as well. 3. Be kind to people, we all have good and bad sides. 4. Compete only with yourself - try to be a better person than yesterday. 5. Be always honest, especially to yourself. Sounds very morally, I know ^^
Hooray it’s May! And no lectures today^^
May Study Challenge Day 1 - Describe where you want to be right now (academically or otherwise).
Right now I am pretty satisfied with being where I am now^^ I wish my family come to visit me soon but being somewhere else? nah..^^
*relaxing and listening to music: Sebastien - Music In You*
2 hours later
No wait! It’s 1st of May! It’s Vappu in Finland! Ohhh I wish I could be there today!!! Love Vappu in Finland! =D
