Tyler’s always had a habit of falling quickly.
He remembers being mesmerized by his first tornado long before feeling afraid of it — being captivated by this rope of complete chaos dropping from the sky.
The thrill, the mystery, the power, the beauty. It was the most incredible thing Tyler had ever seen, and he’d been enamored from that very first second.
So now, whenever the sky calls to him, he can’t look away.
//
He feels it every single time he watches the clouds reach for the wheat fields below. There’s fear deep in his gut, sure, but it serves to heighten his senses. The joy thrumming through his veins is nearly overwhelming, shining through his eyes and bringing a flush to his cheeks.
“She’s perfect!” he shouts, his focus on the clouds above.
Kate’s response is immediate. “She’s gorgeous!”
Tyler turns to face her and pauses. He can see it now, so fucking clearly, on Kate’s expression — the thrill of the chase, the reverence for the mystery, her amazement at the power.
And the beauty — Christ, the beauty. Her smile, the warmth in her eyes, the delight in her voice.
His first love roars behind him as Kate beckons him back to the truck.
He follows without a look back.
everything amir is saying is fucking bobby UP and peter krause is such a damn good actor that you can SEE how badly it's hurting him with every. single. word.
There is something about the men of 9-1-1 being so... dedicated to not just healing from but rewriting the father-son trauma they suffered by doing things differently with their own boys specifically. Bobby with Harry & Buck, Eddie & Buck with Christopher, Ramon with Eddie. It's so deliberate and it's so. good.
Not in the “Buck should be so furious at Eddie for cheating that he takes custody of Chris from him” camp, not in the “Buck doesn’t deserve to be mad at Eddie because he’s not the one being cheated on and also he kissed Lucy while drunk that one time” camp, but a secret third thing: “Buck gets reasonably concerned, and his inability to let things go when Eddie is being stubborn leads to a fight”
Idk how I am expected to survive Tommy standing outside an isolation bubble staring at Buck in a hospital gown and possibly infected with the bubonic plague while their hands press against the glass.
The hospital was chaos. Doctors and specialists and nurses were running around in full suits with gloves over their original gloves and masks pressed firmly over their faces. Folded up turnouts were being carried at arms’ length away and taken somewhere Tommy didn’t follow. Monitors were wailing in the background.
Tommy didn’t know how a whole area that was supposed to cleared of civilians could be so busy. His own turnout coat felt like it was dragging him down further and further away as he swam upstream trying to find him; trying to find any of them.
“Tommy!”
The sound of his name had him jerking to a hard left and even though Buck’s voice did what it always did, made the tightness in his ribs ease away, the sight in front of him almost took him out at the knees.
“Evan!” Tommy breathed, his boots almost too heavy to carry him across the way where Buck was standing beside a bed and an isolation bubble separating him from the world.
He spotted Hen and Chimney around the corner, each fine or pacing in their sections as a nurse tried to get them to get back in bed.
Tommy used the time it took him to cross the distance between them to scan Buck head to toe for any signs of injury. His hair was wild as if he’d been clawing his fingers through it and he couldn’t tell if the redness around his nose was from an irritant or the fact that he’d probably been scrubbed within an inch of his life by the hospital staff. There was no mistaking the red rings around his eyes though.
Tommy’s stomach clenched. He always hated when Buck cried.
“Tommy!” Buck called again, his chin wobbling as he pressed his palms against the plastic.
“Baby?” Tommy breathed, lifting his hand to cover Buck’s. He could almost pretend he felt the warmth of his palm. “Are you… should you be up? What—”
“They won’t tell us!” Buck’s voice warbled through the panic that had to be choking him if whatever the hell they were exposed to hadn’t.
“What?” Tommy shook his head, still too caught up in the chaos to be able to jump on Buck’s train of thought just yet.
“Bobby and Eddie.” Buck got out and Tommy could see in his periphery Chim and Hen both inching closer to their side of the isolation bubbles, trying to give them a bit of privacy but also desperate for more information too. A single tear slipped past Buck’s resolve and every inch of Tommy ached to rip down the plastic so he could take him into his arms.
Buck’s hand pushed even further into where Tommy’s mirrored his like he wanted that too. But they couldn’t. They still had no idea what the 118 had been exposed to on that call. The rumors had run rampant from anything to drugs to anthrax to it all being a false alarm. But none of it felt like a false alarm. Not with the way the hospital was humming at an intensity Tommy hadn’t felt since the first wave in 2020.
“They were in the direct line of exposure,” Hen said and Tommy shot her an apologetic look that she waved off.
His heart was trapped on the other side of a bubble and trying desperately not to fall to pieces. He didn’t think anyone could blame him for his tunnel vision.
“Eddie started showing signs of immediate respiratory distress and Bobby…” Hen trailed off and Tommy felt a cold chill slide down the sweat along his spine.
He’d never seen her so rattled.
“Cap went down,” Chimney finished for her. All the air in Tommy’s lungs fell out of him like he’d taken a sucker punch to the gut. “We haven’t seen them since we got here.”
“And they won’t tell us anything!” Buck added, his eyes wild and distressed.
Suddenly, it all started to click into place like dominos falling in perfect synchronized rhythm.
He knew when he started dating Buck that the team was a permanent fixture in his life, none more so than Bobby and Eddie. Tommy had only worked under Bobby’s captaincy for a year and back then he’d been distant. Kind but distant. But at some point along the way, he’d opened up and the distance between Bobby and the crew had become almost nonexistent. Buck and Eddie were a package deal. Buck needed Eddie like he needed air and vice versa.
To find out that those two people were worse off than the rest of them and there was nothing they could do?
Well it was a miracle they hadn’t clawed their way free yet. And as much as Tommy wanted Buck, safe and in his arms, he knew he needed to stay right where he was. The last thing he could handle— or that Bobby and Eddie would want— was for Buck to go rogue. If he got worse, and Tommy was putting a lot of faith in that if, Buck needed to be right where he was with medical attention watching his every inhale for a single misplaced wheeze.
“Tommy,” Buck croaked out his name as the redness in his eyes deepened, the blues in his eyes going glassy. “I can’t—”
Tommy shook his head and held up his hand again.
Without even blinking, Buck mirrored his hand with his own.
It wasn’t enough. Anything short of being able to bundle Buck in his chest and try to shield him from the worst of the world would never be enough. But it had to be.
Buck’s breath hitched and Tommy could see the unraveling start.
“Breathe baby,” Tommy said lowly and Buck let out an exhale that only marginally managed to ease some of the tension in his shoulders. “Let me see what I can find out.”
He had no idea where Bobby and Eddie were in the building. Hell, he didn’t even know if they were in the same hospital. But for Buck? He wouldn’t stop until he found them.
okay so a few weeks ago, @buck-up-buck had this crazy and brilliant idea where the "person from bobby's past" was someone who wanted revenge on bobby (likely cause someone they loved died in the apartment fire in minnesota) and gets revenge by burning down buck's loft
after hearing her theory, i had had a few ideas about what that fire response could look like, but didn't think about posting them because it felt so crazy and out there...
but with the news that 7x09 and 7x10 are getting renamed to "Ashes, Ashes" and "All Fall Down" respectively??
...well maybe its a little less insane.
HEAR ME OUT:
imagine, if we do get burning down the loft + buck's inside:
- a string of calls to dispatch about a massive apartment fire (as far as we can tell from the windows/views from the balcony, buck's loft is fairly high up in an apartment complex, so likely a large building)
- either josh or maddie answer the call - they ask for the address, and both of them make eye contact the moment they hear it because they know that address, and josh asks maddie if she knows if buck is on shift right now
- (btw, josh def knows buck's address cause of the sudoku moment my beloved)
- scene cuts to the firefam all at the 118 except buck - maybe he had a small injury and was sent home, maybe he called out/was forced to by the person from bobby's past, maybe it was just a day off - but they're all hanging out upstairs
- the alarms start ringing, and we hear a voice - "all units, respond to a major apartment high-rise fire at ______"
- and they all look at each other with looks of panic/fear/worry on their faces because they know that address
- scene cuts to athena out on patrol in her car, when it comes in through the radio - "major fire at apartment high rise, police support required" - and her eyebrows raise because she knows that address
- and THEN the scene cuts to harbor, where we see tommy on shift
- the alarm bells go off, calling for the choppers to get ready to go because of a major apartment fire
- and when tommy hears where it is, he freezes because he knows that address
- and we see the firefam run to the truck, we see athena turn on the siren and speed off, we see tommy hop into a chopper, and they all are off to the rescue - to save buck
insane, right??
but on a rewatch of 7x04, i noticed something...
at harbor, when tommy is giving buck a tour and listing off all the things air ops does, he talks about how they do brush fire suppression, air ambulance transport, and (while leaning into buck's shoulder) high rise fire response
which...is certainly an interesting addition. especially in the most pointed part of the scene, where he is literally leaning over buck
and THEN i think of this line, later in The Loft Scene, when tommy is talking about cross-town traffic:
see, this line always hit me as an underrated moment in this conversation. originally, i thought it was quite adorable and super flirty!! and that tommy was implying that he was interested enough in buck that he would come back in a helicopter just to avoid traffic, just so he could stay with buck longer
but...what if that's not what this line is about?
what if tommy is saying that the next time he goes to buck's loft it's in a helicopter? for a high rise fire response?
because after bobby takes step nine (the step for making amends, also the title for 7x08) towards someone from his past who has unfinished business (the original title for 7x09) with him, and responds by turning buck's apartment complex to ashes, ashes (new 7x09 title)?
and maybe buck is still inside, and bobby finds out that his kid is in danger because of him, and even though he's told not to go in because of how unstable the building is, he does anyways? and it all falls down (7x10 title)??
which is why we saw bobby holding a hospital gown in aisha's insta story today??
and THATS why we didnt see any bts pics of bobby or buck at the award ceremony last week although we literally saw everyone else - because they're injured/banged up enough that it would be a spoiler??
...do we?? see the vision???????
anyways i thought this theory was too insane for tumblr but now that we're here...
i actually think they're fucking burning down the loft
what do y'all think? am i insane? am i brilliant? should i be locked in my enclosure until further notice?
LET ME KNOW I AM BEGGING
like just.. give me a scene where the will comes to light… and maybe buck is distracting chris in the corner just in case things get tense… and it’s mentioned how deeply buck loves christopher… and eddie looks over and watches them… and we see it hit him. because this is what it’s supposed to feel like. he loves this man and this man loves his son and those two things can and do exist separately.
no because IMAGINE being tommy and you've probably done most of the leading up to this point because buck is still new in his bisexuality and this is his first relationship with a man but he's so sweet and sincere and clearly glad to be figuring it out with you. and then you hear his sister's getting married and you come straight from work and he KISSES you like you're the only thing keeping him alive IN PUBLIC after delivering the world's cheesiest pick up line like!!!!!!!!! tommy literally giggling twirling his hair
Buck baby I know we give you a lot of shit but you’re such a good brother bby this MAN is taking care of everything so Maddie doesn’t have to im-
Why do you like Shannon so much?
because i look at her as a whole. she wasn't just eddie's wife. she wasn't just christopher's mom. she was a woman in her own right. and she was... she had a whole life in front of her, you know? not even at the point when she died (but that too), i mean she had her whole life in front of her at the point where she got pregnant. and we know how that was for eddie, you know? we can see, at least in some ways, the effects of christopher's birth and existence on him and how those things shaped who he was and who he became but shannon, in some way, only exists to further his story. and that's fine because, like, he's the main character. but what we do know about her is just so tragic.
think about every teenager you know. every teenager you ever knew. how many of them are ready to be mothers? how many of them are ready to be mothers to disabled children? how many of them are ready to be single mothers to disabled children? how many of them are ready to be single mothers to disabled children while their own mothers are dying of cancer, while their mother in laws are not offering support, and while they're constantly living with the fear that this is forever? because that was her reality. if eddie died overseas, that little glimpse of her life without him would have been her Entire existence for the rest of her life. and i don't know about you, but even as 20-something, that entire existence seems so daunting and overwhelming.
i don't support her for leaving christopher. she fucked that boy up, as we can see now (and have seen over the years) and she shouldn't have abandoned her son, period. have whatever feelings you want to have about your husband but don't bring your kids into that shit. you know? but when i step outside of just that aspect and look at the entirety of who she is? someone just as young and confused and scared as eddie was without receiving any of the grace and understanding that he did inherent, at least, to the fact that he was a soldier at war? i just. man. it reminds me of that poem. you know? they fuck you up, your mum and dad / they may not mean to, but they do / they fill you with the faults they had / and add some extra just for you. and it's just, like, how many choices led them to where they all were/are? all of them.
how many choices from how many people led shannon to getting pregnant by her loser boyfriend? where was her dad? texas dads don't typically let their daughters go get knocked up in high school, btw, so where was he? was he dead? was that, too, something she had to shoulder on her own/with her mom, or did she just never know him? how many choices led her to saying "enough is enough" and walking out? how many sleepless nights? how many tears? how many doctors appointments and arguments and mean words thrown back and forth led to it all just becoming too much? when did she decide she didn't want to be the bigger person anymore? because she didn't decide it the moment she left, that was when she just finally put those feelings into action. she decided it long ago. just, like, how many different choices for how many different people led to all these different versions of all these characters that we know so well?
we'll never know. at least not where shannon is involved. but we can see it in the main characters, so exploring the tragedy of shannon diaz as a viewer, and as a woman, and as a former teenage girl is just. so interesting and so compelling and so sad on so many different levels, like. she deserved better. not just her character, but she, as a woman, deserved so much better. she deserved so many more chances to be the woman/person she thought she wanted to be. when she was a little girl growing up in religious texas, i highly doubt her vision for her life included being lonely, angry, sad, and divorced. and i think the writers (and eddie) do a great job of honoring her as a human being and as a mother. she was not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but that's what makes her so good and so sad and i just. i just love to probe deeply into who she is even if we'll never get confirmation in canon because i think, if nothing else, the character deserves that much
Chapter 02 of "Dream within a Dream"
Chapters: [01] | [Read on AO3]
“No, not you,” Hob grunts, trying to shut the door to his flat the second he opens it, failing when the person outside puts their foot into the gap.
“Let me in, Gadling. I just want to talk.”
“Talk?” Hob can’t help that his voice gets unnaturally high, and he steps back to grab his old sword from a display on the wall. “The last time we met, you tried to exorcise me, even after I told you that I’m no demon.”
Johanna Constantine steps into the flat and closes the door behind her before she looks at Hob’s sword with pity in her eyes. “Do you really want to use that?”
“If I have to,” Hob says. “I’m very attached to being alive, you know?”
a concept: they're together in eddie's kitchen at the end of the season, and buck spills the news, all casual-like, that he and tommy broke up.
and eddie goes silent for a minute, looking concerned, and he says, "oh no, i'm sorry—is tommy okay?"
and buck huffs out a laugh and pretending to be offended, says, "seriously? you're not gonna ask how i'm doing?"
eddie just gives him a playful grin and teases, "well, tommy is my friend, you know. and you're my—"
he goes silent, faltering. all the humour vanishes from buck's face and he gazes at eddie, holding his breath in anticipation.
but eddie can't say anything. they just sit there, gazing at each other, the tension thick between them.
and they both just know.
king dream and prince hob’s kingdoms are at war, and when dream is making his threats to hob’s parents, the king and queen, he promises he’ll steal their eldest son from them and turn him into nothing more than his own personal plaything.
but on the actual field of battle, dream hadn’t realized until he was face to face with hob that hob wasn’t who he thought he was. dream was picturing a man his own age, maybe younger— weak, coddled, and groomed to be a well protected king from the day he was born. except he soon learns that hob has quite a few years on dream and is…definitely stronger. he only let his parents entertain dream’s threats because he thought they were funny. and dream definitely isn’t laughing when hob chases him off the battlefield and into the woods, only to capture him, take him own, and make him his own war prize. after all, dream led the attack that killed hob’s parents— he’s king now, and he can get away with whatever he wants
Oh my fucking gooood I can see so many images in my brain with this one.
Dream has, in fairness, never seen a picture of Prince Hob. But he's heard rumours, wartime propaganda. The prince is spoiled and soft, will prove to be a terrible king, and would never dare show his face on an actual battlefield.
So Dream gets a bit of a shock when he finds himself held at sword-point by a sturdy, ruthless soldier wearing a golden coronet. It takes a moment to register that this must be the prince. It's fair to say that he's nothing like the weak, delicate piece of royalty that Dream was expecting.
Hob is thickly muscled and mud streaked, clad in a very well-worn set of armour that he clearly feels at home in. He picks Dream up by the scruff of his neck more or less, and hauls him off the battlefield like a kitten. As soon as they see their leader capture, Dream's forces collapse. They surrender, Hob signs treaties to basically take over Dream’s kingdom, and his coronation is arranged.
And Dream finds himself trussed up and stored in Hob’s chambers to help him "celebrate" his victory later. When Hob finally comes in, Dream glares at him - but he can't really say anything. His mouth is stuffed with a gag. Hob chuckles softly and runs his fingers over Dream’s cheekbones to smudge away the blood and grime.
"Everything you thought you were going to do to me, I'll do to you. Remember, you sent my parents some very detailed descriptions of what you planned to do with their son." Hob smirks and trails his fingers down over Dream’s collared neck and bare chest. "So let's turn the tables. You can be my little plaything."
Dream thrashes and glares, but his cheeks are turning red. Ironically, he much prefers this version of Prince (now king) Hob to the weak spoiled richboy he'd imagined. This Hob is muscular and strong, covered in thick hair and stubble, with rough hands that have seen hard work. Lust burns in Dream’s stomach as his captor touches him.
And maybe the worst part is that Hob doesn't take him to bed that night. He leaves Dream throbbing and shivering with desire. God knows when he'll finally get what he wants... and if he'll have to beg for it.
The King's chambers are plain. Apart from a wall of weapons that Dream can't access, shackled and gagged on the bed as he is.
Sam's story this week was so well done. I also really appreciated how they paced it, having it sandwiched between the broad comedy of he training bits allowed to it get darker than they might otherwise been able to in a comedy. i also appreciate that the show didn't 'solve' the problem, but rather acknowledged that one famous athlete can't change a racist and bigoted system. and it also showed that you can fight back by claiming your joy (and we got that from Sam's dad!)
getting to meet Sam's dad was just perfect. when Sam sees his dad and breaks down stands in such contrast to last season's locker room dad scene, with Jamie's abusive dick of a father. i love when ted lasso has a good dad, and man oh man does ola obisanya deliver like dominos.
no actually i’m feeling totally normal and not at all affected by nate looking in the mirror and not spitting at his reflection but instead looking at ease and comfortable with himself
