Lucifer S03E20 The Angel of San Bernadino

Written By: Jason Ning Directed By: Tara Nicole Weyr Starring: Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Tricia Helfer, Dan Alejandro, Tom Welling, Lesley-Ann Brandt Air Date: April 16, 2018
We finally get the show back after another damn hiatus! We’re in for a ride in these final five episodes of the Lucifer season. The Angel of San Bernadino, written by Jason Ning, had its highs and its very low lows. It featured what was truly a show-stopping performance from Tom Ellis, and a wonderful scene by Tricia Helfer. We got hilarity with Dan and Charlotte, a lot of Bones references, one of the best montages on television, and then that plot. I mean, I’m personally not a fan of messing with my female lead’s characterization, but I just review this show I don’t write it. Without further ado let’s get on with the show, we’ve got a lot to cover.
Flirting & Realizations
Charlotte and Dan were the best part of the episode. Their scenes were a breath of fresh air in a truly stressful episode. Following Charlotte’s revelation, she thinks that she can do whatever she’d like because after all, she’s friends with two angels. What follows is a lot of hilariousness.
Charlotte delights in telling people what she really thinks of them, their crappy stories or their cooking. Then she gets to Ella and it’s hilariously endearing because she cannot find a single negative thing to say about her. She tells Ella she thinks the latter is actually pretty incredible, and she’s not wrong.
We’re also treated to one of the greatest Charlotte and Dan scenes. Tricia Helfer and Kevin Alejandro have such an easy chemistry, it’s impossible not to root for them. They’re being flirty while drinking a lot of martinis and shots, and it’s adorable. Especially the part where she’s like, I can get you an in with the big guy and he’s just trying to guess who the big guy is. Like I mentioned, it’s a very necessary reprieve from the rest of the episode.

Review – Lucifer S03E13: Till Death Do Us Part

Written By: Mike Costa Directed By: Sherwin Shilati Starring: Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Tom Welling, Tricia Helfer, Kevin Alejandro Air Date: January 29, 2018

2nd week back from hiatus and that means another episode of Lucifer has passed us by. I told myself I would always be honest while writing these reviews – fair but honest – so here we go. I was not a big fan of this episode. Some of the aspects ruined the rest of the episode for me and I know that sadly I’m not the only one that felt this way. Til Death Do Us Part was written by Mike Costa, and while the episode tried hard it didn’t stick the landing. Nothing against Costa; he has actually written two of my favorite episodes, “Pops” and “Homewrecker,” but it just didn’t work for me.
Killer Pals
This episode explored the relationship between Marcus Pierce and Lucifer more deeply. After all, at the end of last week’s episode we saw them make a deal. Pierce can’t die; no matter what Lucifer tries to do, it doesn’t work. Pierce has tried everything, including going inside a volcano, and yet nothing kills him permanently. Not even weapons forged in hell that can kill even Lucifer. Marcus gets frustrated and storms out while Lucifer is left to think of something else to do.
It’s Maze who gives him an idea of what he could do. We get an extremely adorable scene of Maze excitedly showing off her weapons collection–if anyone can make a scene like that look adorable, it’s Lesley-Ann Brandt. Of course, they don’t work because they’re all knives, until Maze reminds him that Chloe makes him vulnerable, and he just has to find Pierce’s vulnerability.
Despite Lucifer’s multiple attempts at getting Marcus to open up, the man just won’t budge. We do get an incredible scene of Tom Ellis wearing glasses and trying to act like Pierce’s therapist, and he’s not so far from the mark. He clearly has learned a trick or two from Linda!
