i know 911 is not the homophobia show and they tend to steer clear of storylines that deal heavily with homophobia but. but. walk with me here:
- 7x3 maddie makes a comment about the fire chief gunning for the mayor's position
- 7x09 this same guy is awarding the 118 with their medals so i'm thinking/wondering if he's already moved into a political position? whatever. doesn't matter. either way, he's not the fire chief anymore
- but. gerrard is
- something happens to bobby that knocks him out of commission, but gerrard doesn't take over the 118 — he takes over the entire lafd
- hen is still the interim captain of the 118, but now she (chim, and tommy) have to submit to gerrard on an even bigger level than they had to before
- where does tommy come into this? great question
- with hen becoming interim captain in a greater capacity than she has been before, she needs to pull in another firefighter to pick up her slack
- enter tommy kinard who is already familiar with and part of the 118 (sort of)
- benefits of doing this story like this would be a Season 2 redux in the sense that, this time, hen/chim/tommy would be in the trenches together.
- now. i mentioned homophobia. where does that come in? another great question.
- so. obviously gerrard has a vested interest in the 118. and by "vested interest," i of course mean that he has it out for them — both because they got him kicked out of the 118 and because they've succeeded so well without him
- he shows up unannounced at the station, questions choices they've made on calls, just things like that
- now. hen. obviously. lesbian. but gerrard's main thing with her was that she was black and a woman
- gerrard's main thing with tommy, however, i think is going to be the fact that he's queer because gerrard knew him "before he got turned" and there's a whole lot of mess there.
- now mind you. buck and tommy are at the same station now, and even though they're out to their friends/family, they try to keep it hidden at work to protect themselves from gerrard but. i mean. that's not going to work, not in the long term.
- gerrard finds out anyway and... he doesn't target them necessarily, but, like. he makes these horrible little comments to tommy especially, keeps them intentionally separated, things like that.
potential benefits to a story like this:
- hen struggling with and having to come to terms with the fact that even though she's no longer gerrard's probie, she once again has to answer to him
- tommy assimilated in gerrard's boys club in order to keep his head down and not draw attention to himself. so being out and queer now and having to work for your homophobic ex boss? when you have a boyfriend who literally works beside you? lots to explore there
- one thing gerrard et. al. did to chim was make him feel small and inadequate. so chim being back in gerrard's orbit overcorrecting or trying to rewrite the way he felt then by taking crazy, dangerous risks to "prove himself" now (even though, intellectually, he knows he doesn't have to prove anything, knowing and feeling it are two different things)
- negligence. gerrard's negligence (or his vendetta) against the members of the 118 leading to someone getting hurt. whether it's tommy/buck when he forcibly separates the two of them out of homophobic pettiness, or eddie, who gets caught in the crossfire when gerrard punishes buck or tommy for something, the potential for hurt member of the 118 → angry confrontation in a hospital as to how gerrard could let this happen would be soooooo fucking sexy.
anyways. you all get what i'm saying i'm sure.
