This was absolutely my take when I saw it was a thing.

But here’s the beautiful additional side effect, and why I think it invokes a rage/ discomfort etc for the people it’s directed at.

In refusing to argue, in dismissing the point you are actually saying, “This is not a legitimate opinion that is worth engaging with”

It is removing the platform and the audience and the engagement that these people are used to.

This is EXACTLY why you don’t debate anti-science creationists. It’s why you don’t debate anti-vaxxers. It’s why you especially don’t debate Nazis.

When you engage and debate you actually do send the message that the argument is worth engaging with, that it is being heard and you are providing an audience and often drawing more people into the debate creating a larger circle.

When you signal that not only do you disagree but that the point isn’t even worth engaging with… well… they lose all that.

some of yall never have to deal with the constant doubt in your own ability to be loved to the point where you get second hand embarrassment at the idea of someone being in love with you and finding you attractive because you’ve been diagnosed with ugly and cringy your whole life and it really shows

some of you were never the kid people dared/bet other people to ask out/hug/talk to at all because it would be funny and therefore can’t trust that anyone who wants that for real has genuine intentions and it shows

Some of you never tried to imagine being asked out and then turning them down in your own imagination because they couldnt REALLY be asking YOU out of all people.

Farmers, especially older folks who’ve been doing things a long time in the same way, know a lot of wild tricks like this, but most won’t tell you unless they like or trust you. For example, I learned every weird little tip I know about raising chickens from some old (60-70+) guys who’d been raising chickens their whole lives, after taking care of communal chicken barns for 3 county fairs or so.

Elizabeth who came to Will’s rescue with a blunt object and a one-liner

Elizabeth who proceeded to team up with Will to take down all the remaining pirates in the cave

Elizabeth who – without being asked or told what was going on – faked unconsciousness to create a distraction for Will’s rescue of Jack

Elizabeth who stepped in front of a ring of muskets, successfully protecting Jack and Will from being shot or captured

Elizabeth may have learned some impressive sword tricks in the later movies, but she was a Badass from day one.
