of Clouds and Stars

@ofcloudsandstars / ofcloudsandstars.tumblr.com

Welcome everyone of the magical, the undefined, the chaotic and ethereal kind. This is a blog for my witch path and personal magical ramblings. I'm 28, a bioregional animist witch who is a bit nomadic but currently residing in London (air element, Libra). Originally from Montclair NJ and NYC. My preferred climate is four seasonal temperate deciduous. Coping with this gray oceanic highland climate in the UK that's like bi-seasonal. Femme-aligned agender, she/they, mixed black, pansexual, I follow the seasonal witch holidays but "secularly". I think my witch strengths are astrology (which most people follow me for) and spamming aesthetics/ideas for the sabbats.

Grounding With Other Elements

Water:

  • Sit in a body of water, a natural one or a bath. Feel where the water touches your skin. Find the line at the surface, where it touches you. Go around your whole body. Feel weightless.
  • Drink a glass of water, slowly and steadily. Feel it travel down your throat and into the rest of your body. Finish the glass.
  • Listen to the rain, the waves, the babbling brook. Feel the sound. Let it vibrate through you until your vibrations match.

Air:

  • Feel the wind on your face. Let the spread-out pieces of you be picked up by the wind, and pushed back to you. Let the wind carry the unnecessary stresses away.
  • Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Repeat.
  • Take a word, sound, or phrase. Repeat it or sing it, find that pitch and speed that feels right.

Fire:

  • Feel the heat from a fire, let it warm your bones.
  • You are a candle flame. Sit or stand tall. Let the excess energy burn up and out the top of your head like smoke. Flicker as needed.
  • Turn off the lights, light a candle. Watch its light flicker on the walls. Melt into the room.

Ruled by Two Elements

When your chart is dominated by two elements equally it can create a very unique balance. Some with a dominant element different from the element of their Sun Sign may find this applicable as well.

Fire and Earth: Keywords: tenacious, strong, creative, insensitive, prideful, controlling

Fire and Earth are in many ways opposites: Fire is bold, passionate, impulsive and childlike while Earth is reserved, practical, measured and cold. When they come together in one’s chart, they can be a bit of a wild card. This individual can be practical yet impractical, impulsive yet controlled, reliable yet volatile. These individuals are very strong, they go after what they want and they always get it with their powerful mix of Fire’s creativity and passion and Earth’s determination and sensibility. On the other hand, they can also be inconsiderate of the needs of others, cold if not cruel, and highly controlling.

Fire and Air: Keywords: visionary, optimistic, communicative, social, warm, open

Fire and Air are compatible elements so they join smoothly. Air brings logic, objectivity and tolerance while Fire brings emotion, passion and idealism. When they come together in one’s chart, the native is very social and warm. They are the type who can make friends with anyone, they are so open. They also tend to be restless and unable to focus on one thing at a time. The bold energy from Fire and Air mix to make an individual who can easily be swept up in unrealistic ideas.

Fire and Water: Keywords: intuitive, emotive, sensitive, warm, creative, disorderly, volatile

Fire and Water come together to form a very unique individual, highly in touch with their emotions and needs. Fire brings instinct and Water intuition allowing an individual ruled by both to understand themselves and subsequently others more so than most. These individuals are either very sensitive and can be easily swayed by those around them yet also bold, blunt, and inconsiderate. They tend to be completely swept away by their own emotions, acting erratically and even hysterically at times. It’s all too easy for them to focus solely on themselves and their emotions, often they are inconsiderate due to this.

Earth and Air: Keywords: logical, efficient, objective, practical, cold, detached

Earth and Air work together harmoniously in one’s chart. When ruled by these two elements, an individual can find the perfect balance between realism and idealism. They are visionary and creative and possess the tenacity and common sense to follow through and make their ideas a reality. They possess a powerful imagination but are grounded enough to never be swept away. On the other hand, they can be dangerously cynical, cold and inconsiderate of others.

Earth and Water: Keywords: empathetic, grounded, intuitive, practical, logical, detached

Earth and Water work together easily as compatible elements. In ways they are very different, Earth solid and practical and Water free and emotive. When these two elements rule an individual’s chart, they are both logical and emotional, realistic and idealistic, distant and sympathetic. They find balance between their deep emotions and their strong sense of reality, never letting one get in the way of the other. They have a special talent for rolling with life’s punches and even making obstacles work in their favor. They can easily become distant and detached and are prone to pride.

Air and Water: Keywords: intuitive, idealistic, communicative, humanitarian, impractical

Air and Water have many conflicting characteristics but they come together in positive ways. Individuals ruled by these two elements are highly compassionate and interested in the needs of others but they can also be extremely distant and even cold. Air’s objectivity and Water’s sensitivity fluctuate, at times very dramatically. They are very logical and analytical but always sympathetic. Their reasoning always has a very human edge. They can be highly impractical, unrealistic and cold.

Elemental Balance: Fire ☆  Earth  ☆  Air  ☆  Water

So we all have intuition, but it often manifests a bit differently for each element.

Fire tend to just know, from gut instinct and butterflies in their bellies, like a compass is pointing them in the right direction, almost effortlessly.

Earth tend to sense something, or receive physical sensations like temperature changes, a prickling feeling on their skin, scents and sounds.

Air tend to receive mental messages and ideas, concepts often incredibly other worldly and imaginative.

And Water tend to feel their way through life, where emotional changes and the way their soul feels guides them on their way.

It's interesting how every year my aesthetic choices for each holiday changes slightly but it might have to do with the elements. Like looking at last Summer solstices posts a lot of images were of bright blue skies and it was sunny and airy and now I realized this year I reblogged so many things that are hot and fiery. It might have to do with the planet alignments influencing me with its fiery vibes. But then I realized every sabbat can have its own aesthetic based on elements like: Litha Fire: spicy, fiery, red and vermillion colors, fire dancers, massive bonfires, flaming drinks, torches Air: bright, sunny, clear skies, sunshine, mead, bees, sunny yellow colors, hot air balloons Water: beach, mermaid parade, salt water taffy, seashells, lake side party, seafood, yellow for sunshine and sand, blue for clear skies and water Earth: sunflowers, gold and greens, summer vegetables, gold and orange lilies, dandelion wine, sunshine filtering through sprouting wheat. Yule Fire: spiced fragrant fireplace, holy, red ribbons, spiced hot chocolate, hot mulled wine with oranges and anise. cinnamon, nutmeg, velvety reds and gold. Air: light and snowy, filtering gold light that illuminates snowflakes, white and gold trimmings, powdered sugar treats, snowy owls and snowmen. Water: icy, silver and pale blue decorations, ornate crystal and glass ornaments, icicles, frosted windows and glasses. Earth: deep rich green garlands, fir garland everywhere with gold ribbons and holy, the rich smells of cedar and pine, poached pears, spiced apples, pomegranate. Samhain Fire: illuminated jackolanterns, flaming pumpkins, fiery Devils, red candied apples, fire breathing harlequins, red orange and black Air: brown, grays and black, bare trees, whirling dead leaves, ghostly presences, wreath of bare brown branches and bones, skeletons, birch broomsticks, witches in the wind, crows Water: greens and black, lagoons and mysterious potions and cauldrons, dry ice, frogs, thick fog, slime. Earth: Rich autumn colors, huge pumpkins, apples, candied fruits, pies, Amber sunflowers, gold and orange chrysanthemums, jacket potatoes, earthy Browns, pumpkin orange Apple reds. Beltane Fire: fairy lights, colorful sparklers and lanterns, bright colorful ribbons, a fire with different streaks of colorful flame, zesty foods, rainbow lights Air: butterflies, fairy floss, blossom petals in the wind, pale pastel colors and ribbons, winged colorful insects, musical spring birds and fairies. Water: soft pale greens and blues, misty spring rain, huge hydrated magnolias and opened tulips filled with raindrops, streams with swans, dew on dandelions and spiderwebs, decorations jeweled with rhinestones, curled fiddlehead salads and raindrop cakes. Earth: bright magenta, rose, periwinkle and indigo, bluebell flowers, roses, magnolias, hydrangeas, radishes, spring roots, beets, turnips, red cabbage, flower petals, mossy green, colorful salads, flowerpot cakes, rich earthy and deep rose colored may pole ribbons, toadstools and moss. I could go on to the last 4 but I just wanted to think aloud at how each sabbat can kind of shift its tone towards an element though some I associate with an element already (like Litha is fire) the whole decoration and scenery can be set in another. (Like having a fiery summer celebration but with watery elements by the lake or at the beach).

Zodiac Elemental Progression

Fire:

Aries - The Spark: The beginning, the birth, the instigator: Aries is the Spark of the Zodiac. Within them is the beginnings of a raging fire, the potential for greatness or for destruction, the power to create and renew but also to bring to an end. They are the beginning of the Fire.

Leo - The Flame: The energy of Fire mounts, becoming a true Flame in Leo, the star and the ruler. Leo, with their heart of gold and boundless drive, are the core of Fire. Fire is in their veins, pushing them to greatness, inspiring them to take the spotlight. Leo shines for they are the Flame.

Sagittarius - The Ember: The culmination of Fire, Sagittarius is the smoldering Ember left after Fire’s rush of power. Within them remains the heart and soul of Fire, bright and powerful, a being of light, but their energy is more subtle and gentle. Sagittarius is the easing of tension before the cycle begins again.

Earth:

Taurus - The Soil: The gentle but strong start of Earth, Taurus is the Soil, the mother of all life. Taurus is the heart and soul of life, the culmination of years of decay and rebirth, perseverance personified. Earth begins strong with this sign serving to set the stage, forming the foundation.

Virgo - The Life: Once the Soil is prepared, so comes the Life. Virgo is the pinnacle of Earth’s power, the flourishing of green life, of flowers and plants and all things that live to bring Life. Passive yet powerful, Virgo is the heart of Earth and all of its hard work.

Capricorn - The Crystal: When life fades, as all life must, it is regenerated, compacted and reformed, as is the power of Earth. Capricorn is the Crystal, cold and strong yet immensely beautiful, structured through years of force and power. Yet as strong as it is, it will be broken again, returning to become one with the Soil, thus continuing Earth’s cycle.

Air:

Gemini - The Breeze: Air begins gently, with the Breeze. Gemini is the trickster and the lighthearted imp of the Zodiac, the playful Breeze. With mercury-swift minds and a silver tongue to match, Gemini is like the ever fluctuating Breeze, incapable of being pinned down.

Libra - The Eye of the Storm: As Air develops, it becomes chaotic yet calm, fiercely cold yet distant. Libra is the Eye of this storm. They maintain a beautiful balance that hides the danger of impish Air, the peace of the storm. But this balance cannot be maintained forever.

Aquarius - The Clouds: The Clouds, gentle and beautiful, the sky’s Waterbearer, can bring the life of rain or torrents and floods that destroy. Aquarius, the sign of harmony yet also revolution and unrest, is much like the Clouds, the final stage of Air.

Water:

Cancer - The Waves: Moved by the Moon, the Waves, like Cancer, are volatile and vicious yet also calm and gentle. Within Cancer lies the potential for life for what is water but the mother of all existence? Yet alongside that beautiful potential is the danger of storms and violence.

Scorpio - The Undercurrents: Just beneath the surface, the Undercurrents curl and twist, unseen and threatening, the Water’s secret intentions and motives. Scorpio is this Undercurrent, the deep and powerful urges of all of humanity personified. There is a reason Scorpio is the keeper of secrets.

Pisces - The Depths: Finally there are the depths, all of the hidden thoughts and desires, the unconscious pinings over which Pisces rules. The culmination of Water, master of emotion and human need, the Depths are dark yet beautiful and very much alive, a place where fantasy is reality and the ominous is beautiful.

All of this✨✨✨
