What a brave and handsome demon, eh? Courageously facing down the forces of Hell, standing tall despite the threat to his very existance. Crowley showed such fearlessness when he was dragged off to his diabolical trial.
Except that's NOT Crowley. The demonic good looks remain (!), but we know that's actually Aziraphale. The angelic Principality. In Hell. About to be sentenced to an unknown fate.
I've been thinking a lot about Aziraphale lately. Tonight, I was thinking about the incredible Courage Aziraphale showed in his willingness to appearance-swap with Crowley. It was also incredible Love.
Agnes Nutter's prophecy only said, "Ye must choose your faces wisely, for soon enouff ye will be playing with fyre." Nothing about Holy Water or rubber ducks. Hell has a very, very long list of things it can do to punish someone, demons included, many of which might "play with fire." Aziraphale went into Hell not knowing what tortures he'd be facing. But he knew one thing for certain...
He was going to protect Crowley, at any cost.

I adore Aziraphale for being like this. He’s such a little princess. He’s in love and he’s not giving up. He will always find a way to be with Crowley. Gosh he adores him. He read his romances with heroines (angels) being taken care of by their handsome partners (demons) and he’s living it.

Aziraphale talking for the first time with Crowley when they’re both Angels is soooo “finally got to talk to my crush after I’ve been watching him for ages”.
He’s introducing himself, giggles, smiles, compliments him, already warns him to not get himself in trouble. Already a little jealous when he realises Crowley is only looking at the stars and calling them gorgeous not him.
He was probably flying around hoping one day he’d call him over so they could talk. Angel has been smitten by Crowley since the beginning of time. Crowley is not getting the hint? No problem. Aziraphale is not giving him up now.

I like to think of Crowley as a demisexual virgin. Like, obviously he appears on the surface to be sex on legs. He's the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. Plus, he's got that goddamn walk... And you know he's definitely had occasion. It would be nearly impossible for him to not have been propositioned at least once in 6,000 years, given his job.
Most of his existence has been spent in places where 'sin' breeds. Bars, bathhouses and brothels, just for a start, and we've seen that (at the very least) human women are attracted to him. (I.e. Nazi spy lady and also Mrs. Sandwich) But absolutely nothing can convince me that he has ever even considered sleeping with anyone who has propositioned him.
We all know he has a secret very romantic streak and I think that for him sensuality is likely very tied into that. The one person he's ever loved has been sitting to his right for millennia and if you think for one second that he'd want that sort of intimacy with anyone else, I'd say you're wrong. Who needs a one night stand when you can spend the evening drinking wine with your angel? However, if things between he and Aziraphale were to heat up, I'm certain that the eroticism that has eluded him for his entire existence would hit him and vavoom, it would all start to make sense. Also, this look?
It is absolutely hilarious when in Good Omens, Crowley changes her name and Aziraphale asks if she changed it to "Asmodeus", and Asmodeus being the literal demon of lust. But can we talk about that first name he said? "Mephistopheles"?
Mephistopheles is a demon in German folklore. In the Faust legend, he works as Satan's agent when Faust is selling his soul. The interpretations of this demon is what I find interesting however. Mainly that Mephistopheles HATES working for Satan, that it's basically his own hell, and even warns Faust of just how bad of an idea it is to sell his soul to the devil and that he should probably rethink his decision. Mephistopheles also never directly goes looking to corrupt people, he just kinda goes to those who already are, which included Faust, and I will repeat this again, advised him to not solidify himself as being corrupt.
Crowley kind of is this demon in a sense. They hate being a part of hell, and really the chaos they usually cause isn't as "corrupting" as the work other demons do. And yeah, they're THE Serpent of Eden, but he didn't really think knowing the difference between good and evil was something to be as severely punished as it did. As well as he was positively horrified about the drowning of all those people.
So while the scene of her changing her name is really funny because of Aziraphale's suggestion, it gives us another glimpse into the kind of demon they are. At least I think this is the reason @neil-gaiman used that name in this scene.
