This scene still haunts me
"You are my best friend" by Queen
"Ooh, you make me live
Ooh, I've been wandering 'round
Still come back to you (still come back to you)
In rain or shine, you've stood by me girl
I'm happy at home (happy at home)
You're my best friend
Ooh, you make me live
Whenever this world is cruel to me
I got you to help me forgive
Ooh, you make me live now, honey
Ooh, you make me live"
"I'll never be lonely"
This so so aziracrow coded, it's insane.
"I've been wandering around" =for literally 6.000 years, they have been everywhere
"Still come back to you" = They always find their way back to each other
"In rain or shine, you've stood by me girl"= Aziraphale was there when Crowley was an angel, and that never changed when he became a demon. Rain = First Storm, Shine= the creation of the nebula.
"I'm happy at home" = Crowley's favourite place is the bookshop according to David.
"Whenever this world is cruel to me" = " Loathed by Heaven, hated by hell". And I add " having to wear glasses to hide my nature from humans".
"I got you to help me forgive" = According to the book, Crowley "cursed Aziraphale, the ineffable plan, the above and the below" when he admitted to himself that his angel is gone. For Aziraphale gives him strength to not go after them and go on but when he dies, Crowley loses that and basically says that everyone can go fuck themselves.
"I'll never be lonely" = Now he is
And it breaks him:
"Somebody to love"
Lord, what you're doing to me? (Yeah, yeah)
I have spent all my years in believin' you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord
He works hard) everyday (Everyday)
I try and I try and I try
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I'm going crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
I got no common sense
(He's got) I got nobody left to believe
No, no, no, no
Oh Crowley. Aziraphale was the only one who understood him.
The only one who always said that he is good deep down making Crowley smile even tho he said "shut up" just two seconds before.
The only one who admired Crowley's cunningness, wiliness, brilliancy, ( according to that deleted scene ) whereas Hell only saw him as an employee and heaven despised him.
I also once read an interview of Freddie Mercury according to which, he said that he was disappointed and unsure whether his friends were true ones.
Freddie Mercury according to many accounts was a very lonely man despite being a superstar and a delightful person.
The same thing can be said about Crowley; Everyone knows him, everyone wants or aspired to work with him and everyone wants to be remembered by him. He is the "popular, talented kid".
But Crowley never stops feeling lonely because taking your own way is a solitary path for both Freddie and Crowley alike.
Crowley found love and a home in Aziraphale the same way Freddie did in his former wife.
I think his transcendental love for her is like Crowley's love for Aziraphale, only difference is that Freddie was a human being, a sexual one who had to find that in someone else, whereas Crowley and Azira are supernatural agender and asexual beings who only have a body or a sex life at will, through conscious effort, as Neil said.
Don't forget that Crowley gives big " don't you dare disrespect my wife" vibes about his love; For Aziraphale has been there with him since Crowley put the universe in motion as an angel and that never changed despite Crowley's fall, them becoming biblical enemies etc.
Loving Aziraphale has never been an easy task for various reasons, both external, internal and interpersonal ones. And it certainly isn't easy in the current timeline.
But his angel is the best thing that has ever happened to him, and their love is the only constant through and through.
When he walked away, he simply said "don't bother" but still waited outside in case Aziraphale had a change of heart, an epiphany or something. He was hurt, not offended.
They aren't just hot for each other, they LOVE each other FOR CENTURIES.
And Crowley won't just not love Azi or lose his protectiveness for him because his angel is being an idiot right now.
And Aziraphale won't stop thinking about Crowley for a moment; On the contrary, it will only grow stronger as he will miss him a lot ( and their kiss ) till they reunite again.
Never forget that Crowley is at his happiest when he is with Aziraphale; He jumpstarted the universe with his angel's help, sharing his joy with him when the nebula was created. Aziraphale really congratulated him with that cute big smile of his whereas heaven treated Crowley as just another employee; he did their bidding, and when he started to wonder about some questionable company policies, they threw him away, wiping out his memory, without recognising his vast contribution.
He had just fallen and was probably incredibly shaken but Aziraphale giving up his flaming sword for Adam and Eve made his whole face light up and laugh.
Over the years we see him becoming angrier, more cynical and distrusting with everyone else but with Aziraphale, he keeps getting softer and softer. Sometimes he acts like a whiney, grumpy fuck for a husband but is actually so grateful that Aziraphale always lets him complain and get it out of his system, not judging like everyone else does, and most importantly, *not leaving him*.
Because Aziraphale loves him just as much.
And Crowley would say some harsh words to people who bash the love of his life.
When Aziraphale died, Crowley got wasted. He talked about not wanting to become a demon. He basically says that the last million light years have been hellish for him, literally and metaphorically.
He didn't want to get kicked out of his home, rejected from his * birth family* but it happened and there's no going back. Ever since, life has been incredibly hard for him. And if it wasn't for Aziraphale, he would be completely lonely and lost.
And he knows that better than anyone else.
And he knows his love for Azi is much bigger than the sadness, the confusion, and the pain he feels right now.
He says to Nina and Maggie that they have been talking to each other for millions of years, that Aziraphale makes him laugh and that IT'S GREAT.
Crowley's situation and life sucks, but his time with Aziraphale IS GREAT. IT'S GREAT even if there's trouble they have to go through, because they are doing it TOGETHER.
And if his angel could not be physically present at times, Crowley's love for him, Crowley's memories of them, full of laughter were enough to give him strength.
Please, don't bash the love of his life. That would only destroy him more.
We all know that the Bentley is semi - sentient. If the brakes were the problem like Nina suggested, Aziraphale would have just fixed that. Instead he ordered her not to follow him because he knew that he had done everything right, brakes included.
I believe that the car loves when Aziraphale pets and sweet talks to her and that's why she acts like a puppy towards him the same way Crowley does so. Because Aziraphale gives his hubby the same love that the latter so desperately craves; the " you are a good thing no matter how tough and cool you pretend to be and I'll be extra careful with you" type of love.
Heaven casts him out and makes him literally a serpent that crawls to the ground.
And hell punishes him when he wants to protect his true identity, the one he cares about, the world etc.
Crowley feels like no-one ever cared about what he actually needs, except for Aziraphale. For his angel is always there for him, loves him, allows him to ask questions even if he doesn't always get it and lets him feel however he needs to feel.
Aziraphale is also the type of guy who drives slowly because he believes that it's the best for both of them, angel and car XD
And that's how you get a powerful demon and a car immune to fire to be like puppies for the sweet angel that pets, protects, and reassures them.
Crowley claims that the Bentley doesn't like him living in it either implying that; either he encouraged it to have a more independent and strong personality like Crowley does or the Bentley itself slowly took after him.
I believe it's a combo of both; I believe that Bentley becomes a mirror of Crowley, NOT his extension tho.
I think that if the car could talk, she would say to him: " you idiot, go move in with your wonderful angel" or "you screwed up again", out of love for Crowley of course.
I feel like Bentley would never take crap from Crowley like his plants do; if he makes her angry, she will get back at him.
And she didn't burn from the flames for many reasons: 1) Crowley talked to her like she is his kid ( I've had you from new = I raised you ), 2) He gave her strength ( You are my car and I am powerful so you are powerful too. Don't even think about it), 3) Bentley will always protect Crowley.
I think Bentley always "knew" how happy Crowley is when he goes to the bookshop, when he talks to Aziraphale on the phone, when he thinks of him while driving.
What she didn't know was that Azi can be so sweet with her too. It's not that big of a surprise tho.
So, she acts like a kid that really wants to see her dad stop dancing around that sweet person they really love and finally end up together, so she can have both of them for parents.
What breaks Crowley is that if Aziraphale's existence was erased from the book of life, Crowley would lose the best thing that has ever happened to him; the love of his life, his light, the one who always saw the good in him, the one who never abandoned him.
The one that has been there with him when he set the universe in motion, the one that is there with him to save it every time it's at risk and will be there with him if they don't succeed and it's destroyed.
The one whose biggest "sin" is being a foodie, the one who refuses even to kill a boy to save the whole universe and instead offers to entertain at the boy's birthday party with stupid mortal magic tricks because " it's fun".
The one who fucking gave up his angelic flaming sword to protect Adam and Eve despite not having ordered to because he was worried for the baby, the dangers of the night etc. He literally acted like a worried mother who wanted to protect her children, in secrecy from the strict father ( God ) who threw them out of the house.
The one who knew angel Crowley, demon Crowley, Crowley who refuses both roles, and loves him through and through.
Azi literally says: after you 😍😊 after joking about Crowley being his enemy and a foul creature. His face was literally the one he had when he first met angel Crowley: the crush is the same, folks.
The one who initially didn't even wanna hear about going back to heaven till Metatron suggested that not only he could have Crowley on his side but he could restore his angelic status and save him from eternal damnation after the apocalypse.
And Crowley knows that Aziraphale loves him too. The show makes it clear that the biggest problem of theirs is communication; Aziraphale doesn't tell him exactly why he made the choice he did and how much Crowley's safety influenced it; Crowley doesn't communicate how hopeless he feels about the future of the universe after knowing how both sides are equally toxic ( something that Azi doesn't know because he has only experienced one side, heaven and to him, heaven = better than hell) and instead offers to run away and be together for the time that's left.
Both of them don't actually want what they are offering; both love the universe, the human world and want to be together in that world; they make desperate decisions in a hurry, emotions running high.
They have to meet at halfpoint, that's what they truly want and need: stay on earth and fight for it. Neither Heaven nor the stars are the solution; heaven is broken and staying in the alpha centuri won't solve anything.
People who give Azi shit make me sad; despite having taught that heaven is good and hell is bad throughout all his life, despite never having fallen, he always puts the safety of human beings and Crowley above everything else. Him making stupid decisions at times, acting "bitchy" or whatever is the human side of him.
Aziraphale is a social studies guy; he designed humans along with other angels and was melting when he mentioned a future earth full of them the same way, Crowley, a stem guy, made exciting nerd sounds when the nebula was created.
So Aziraphale feels more like a guardian to humans but shares also their weaknesses as well as their good traits: he can be naive, too enthusiastic or stuck up at times.
Whereas Crowley being the scientist he is takes a more philosophical approach to life; he cares about humanity more as a whole. Crowley considers killing a boy for the entire universe, and has no problem testing and tempting humans while Aziraphale would never. However, he can be more emotionally intelligent at times: understanding how humans love, how they choose that over anything else, why they are often conflicted much better than Aziraphale.
Aziraphale's light side is his romantic one;
He cares more about his loyalty to heaven, his relationship with Crowley, his connections ( eg Gabriel ) than what's logical ( eg choosing to save Jim who could become Gabriel again and destroy him ), the safety of humans ( protecting Adam and Eve from dangers with his sword despite God not wanting that and potentially punishing Azi) .
Whereas his hidden side is pragmatic; At the most crucial moment, he chooses what he thinks is logical, surprising everyone, his love more than anyone else.
Whereas Crowley's light side is pragmatic; He approaches angels, demons, humans on a logical approach, with a sense of self preservation and a belief in knowing what must happen regardless of how it *feels* or looks like on the surface. Humans should be tempted, humans should have the right of free will, heaven and hell must be both discarded despite how God or Aziraphale or anyone else feel about it.
His hidden side is the romantic one: According to Neil he reads books but pretends he doesn't. His favourite song is " I'll be your mirror" one of the best love songs ever written. Azi doesn't know Crowley lives in his car because the latter doesn't want to burden him. He is all about human love and roots for Nina and Maggie more than he lets Azi know.
It's a side of his that he hides from everyone but comes to the light at the most crucial moment; he asks the love of his life to run away with him no matter how that turns out. He's a jaded engineer, a jaded scientist, a cynic hopeless philosopher by that point; All he wants deep down is to be with his love.
Both love each other equally, both are aware of each other's love, both have a human side that make them different from the rest of angels and demons and both fucking care about the human world more than anything else.
Their different approaches and their communication problems are their biggest issues; struggles that every romantic relationship has at some point.
