You know how the American founding fathers didn't like the idea of political parties being a thing, so there's no framework in the constitution to tell parties how to act and as a result they're entirely unregulated and running rampant and just fucking everything up for everyone? And so other later constitutional republics codified political parties as a thing so they have rules they have to follow and procedures and limits and as a result those countries have more diverse political landscapes with more parties representing more points of view and ideas rather than being strangled by America's two party system? That's kinda what TTRPG designers mean when they say that more rules can lead to more player freedom and expression.

These percentages are higher than I expected but still woefully low. I hope we beat them today.

Note that most of the states with the lowest participation are so-called "red states." The color of the map would look a lot different without the voter suppression in these states.

Voting is not ritual magic binding you to our current system and rendering you unable to even contemplate more radical change.

The TL:DR here is that the mail-in ballot instructions are needlessly arcane, and there was an effort to get a ruling that ballots would be accepted with certain minor errors. That effort failed, so it's important to make sure that you read, understand, and follow the instructions.

(*The specific thing they were looking at had to do with writing the date on one of the two envelopes that you use to return your ballot. But the bigger issue is that they're making the process confusing on purpose, as a voter-suppression technique, and it's a lot more widespread than this one thing in Pennsylvania.)

our alternative is trump. third party splits the votes, and abstaining is just going to fuck the entire united states over. your vote (AND support) matters, and i better see anyone who doesn't want trump to be elected and the United States to become a fascist, authoritarian regime throwing their full support behind this new nominee.

we have three months to go. we're in crunch time. if you don't want to lose your rights, support this new nominee with everything you've got.

Love that a cabal of rightwing Dems and their corporate donors just scuttled the Biden campaign but the lefty-punching has already begun. Despite the fact that the most left and BIPOC members of Congress supported Biden to the very end. 🙄

I actually think it’s a good thing that regular Democrats are furious at the very obvious op the media and big donors are trying to pull. People should be furious that big donors are withholding money unless the candidate who won 87% of the primary vote drops out. Our elections should not be bought. People should be furious that the media is trying to push out the candidate who 14 million voters chose, while they fawn over the other guy who’s a raping, convicted felon. It’s good that regular voters are getting fired up and defensive of Biden, and we need to bring that enthusiasm into November.

With that said, people need to log off and stop following every little leak, some of which are hardly anything more than celebrity gossip at this point. The DNC is next month and the delegates will officially vote for the nominee in 3 weeks. It'll all be over then no matter what. Stop doomscrolling. Stop panicking over gossip from unnamed sources published by media outlets that so desperately want Trump to win. You're going to fall apart before November if you keep engaging with this 24/7.
