50 Years, 50 Albums (2022): Midnights by Taylor Swift
I will turn 50 in November of this year, so my project for 2023 will be to listen to and review one album from each year of my life, 1973 to 2022. The only qualification is that it has to be an album I’ve not reviewed previously. Note: Each week I’m choosing a year randomly and then deciding what album to listen to from that year. You can help by voting in the poll below or submitting a…
SONG OF THE DAY
Song: Bizarre Love Triangle
Artist: New Order
Songwriters: Bernard Albrecht, Gillian Gilbert, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris
Release Date: November 5, 1986
One of the most iconic songs of the 1980s, I can't remember a dance or a party that didn't have "Bizarre Love Triangle." The electronic synths and the steady programmed drum beat seem simple beneath Bernard Sumner's vocals about the complexity of love.
SONG OF THE DAY
Song: Pocket Calculator
Artist: Kraftwerk
Songwriters: Karl Bartos, Emil Schult & Ralf Hütter
Release date: May 10, 1981
This futuristic techno/dance track focuses on the very high technology of the pocket calculator. I had a small Casio keyboard that also had a calculator around the same time and let me tell you holding something in your hands that could play "a little melody" was the epitome of cool. I remember first hearing this song at a retro-night at the Man Ray dance club in Cambridge in the 1990s and coincidentally they've just announce that Man Ray is reopening!

Song of the Week: “Frankie” by Barrie
Barrie – “Frankie” I gave the Barrie album Barbara a listen due to its appearing on the WERS list of Our Favorite Local Albums of 2022 So Far… and “Frankie was the standout track. The danceable synthpop provides the bedrock for Barrie to ruminate on the evils of capitalism and draws inspiration from Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman.” Song of the Week 2022 January “Colonizer” by Tanya…
