How about a nice wholesome moment from this week?
When New Yorkers talk about a New York Moment they generally mean a moment that is unique and, quite often, silly or magical or wholesome. Sometimes a combination (because New Yorkers are actually very kind even though it often doesn’t look that way to outsiders).
Anyway, if you’ve never gotten off the 7 train at Grand Central station and taken the third ave exit to the street it is important to know it is a beast. You go up a flight or so of stairs, turn a corner, and see this
The other morning the escalators were absolutely packed. People were waiting to get on, it was slow, it was early, yuck.
One guy decided to jog up the stairs.
Roughly 2/3 of the way up he is visibly losing steam. He stops
Someone on the escalator starts clapping “you got this! You got it! Keep going!”
And then another person
And another
And suddenly both escalators are full of people clapping and cheering this stranger
He starts climbing again, people are going nuts!
He gets to the top, pulls a Rocky on the steps, and walks away. Everyone goes back to their commute.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that. And keep going. You got this.
