Ignoring normal weapon rules for a moment, what would make the most cost effective mech in your opinion, using only Battle Armor Weapons

All BA weapons on the table, even clan ones All mech chassis as well, time frame irrelevant

Avatar

SRMs are available to BA... medium lasers are available to BA...

You'd be looking at the Hunchback 4SP, i do believe.

An HBK 4SP-style BA.. now that'd be sumn'.

Avatar

a squad of Battle Armor all styled as Hunchbacks would be rather amusing

This is what I have so far. Vibro-claws to reference the battlefists and be destructive, cause the vibroblades looked fun, two SRM 6s, mounted on each torso in fluff, and four auto shotties cause i couldnt mount more than one laser per arm. and auto shotties are fun.

amazing, I love it

now we just deploy enough that they weigh as much as 4 hunchbacks and-

wait what do you mean machine gun-

Avatar

As you all know, I am very much obsessed with the Panther right now. Bought the 10P and refitted it with a second SRM 4, a Laser AMS, and a RAC-5 in the right arm to replace the two AC-2s. I love it to bits.

Now I want to paint the fucker. Problem is i dont know what to paint it. The colors I have are:

Marik Purple (i fucking love purple),

Cadmium and Hotrod bright red (same thing),

Jarosite (orange),

Jungle (cyan),

Davion White,

Mystic Purple (lighter blue shade of the Marik Purple far as i can tell)

and Camo Black.

Any ideas lads?

White, Cyan, Purple in that order

Like this?

kinda looks like a Kamen Rider character color palette if you don't look at the minigun

yea that's perfect

how many IS-tech machineguns can you stick inside a theoretical Marauder (not the II or IIC). it doesn't have to be Good, or Combat Viable. I just want to know how many angry beehives you can stuff in that frame.

Avatar

Depends on the context. Are we replacing the Ac/5 with Machine Guns? The PPCs?

(Also came to mind- Ah yes, the HBK-4MG "Box of Angry Bees'" older brother)

*EVERYTHING*

Even downsizing the engine if tonnage gets in the way

Avatar
agbpaints

If *EVERYTHING* is on the table then by removing all weapons and non-essential heatsinks and armor, going to a CFE (downrating the engine isn't optimal because it shunts hest sinks into crit space) and compact gyro, replacing the chassis with air-craft grade composite, and ripping off 4 tons of armor from a MAD-3R, you have 57 free critical locations and 28.5 tons to work with, allowing you to maximize the MG Marauder of Theseus's Machine Gun count at 56 supplied by 1 ton of ammo for 35.7 seconds of fire time before your bin runs dry. This is the theoretical maximum number of critical slots that can be freed for construction on mech without breaking into superheavy construction rules.

Now, that is also just kind of an awful build and less a marauder than it is some fever dream from the depth's of Infatry Guy's mind. If your goal is 'just' replace the AC and fill as many critical slots with machine guns as possible then replace the heat sinks with doubles and go to 10 heat sinks, swap the engine with a light fusion engine and add 1 ton of armor. You end up with 37 critical slots and 18.5 tons remaining, exactly enough for 36 machine guns supplied by a half ton of ammo to absolutely ruin someone's day if they get under your PPCs.

Avatar

If you could design a superheavy 'Mech (150 - 200 tons), what gimmick(s) would you focus its design on

Avatar

One gun: Gauss rifles. Think about it a bit.

Your assaults already move slower than a glacier unless you run Chargers like a madman, and superheavies are more of'n than not mistaken for geographically flexible bunkers.

With Gauss rifles range ain't really an issue, you can mount a fuckton of em cause you have the space and tonnage efficiency to do so, and long range is of no real concern because you have Gauss Rifles.

Suggestion: Clan Gauss Rifles. If you can spare the superheavy tech, you can spare the penny for some free tonnage.

Is this just a Gausszilla on steroids? You bet. Recommend ripping out at least 1 Gauss Rifle for the sake of backup guns though.

Avatar

consider a scaled up Hunchback with 4x C-Gauss stuffed into the side torso

thinkin about Battletech: Advanced mod

about the goofy fucking rotary-UAC/20 yes that's right its a UAC/20 that also is a RAC/20 6-shot bursts 2 projectiles per shot

See also: LBX-RAC/5

LAC 10/20

C-ULBXs

C-Snub-Gauss ("What if the clans took the idea of H-Gauss and made it Smaller")

C-Ultra-Snub-Gauss (^ That but it fires 2)

C-SB-HAG/10 (Silver bullet HAG!)

Stormbreaker Gauss Array (12x Magshot (or AP gauss, clanners did it too??) crammed into one mount)

Rotary Lasers (3 bursts per shot, slightly lower damage per hit, more overall)

the "Super" MML (15 missiles per salvo, 12s/20t, can load ANY missile ammo. Even Arrow-IV ammo.)

Most of these were made for mod patreon supporters and are explicitly marked "Community Content"; IE: Non-Canon

but some of them are goofy fun ideas some could make a teaspoon of sense as like, one-off experimentals

Frankenmech: Atlas with Urbanmech upper-halves for arms. they also have their normal arms.

I raise you: Atlas with not only urbies on the arms, but also on the torso and head.

I did in fact make a mech like that... if you want to see it.

I wish to see it

I am so sorry.

Sidenote: the urbies on the UrbanLord are as follows: UM-R27, UM-R60L, UM-R80, UM-R93, and last but not least, the UM-R68.

(in place of the AES for the R-27 i gave it 1t of Tandem Charge Ammo)

Glorious

Amaris could've learned to love this 'little' nightmare machine

Opinion on the UrbanLAM?

Avatar

if it works ¯\(ツ)/¯

But for realsies, this is probably the pinnacle of "get in, run outta ammo, GTFO". If you aren't running it like that, you got no business running it like this.

Now. There are... a lotta issues.

  1. If you try to fly/take off from an urban environment, you have a high chance of eating shit via skyscraper. the aerial mode is NOT made for cities. it is only for getting you in there.
  2. LAM parts are FUCKING EXPENSIVE. Unless Orguss or whoever makes the Urbie LAM parts real cheap like the actual urby, there isnt the slightest chance this thing won't be a strain on logistics costs for merc co's who thought they could get a nice, cheap, LAM mech. Which is funny considering the Low Price Point for Having A Mech With An AC/20 is kinda the point of the Urby.
  3. Oddly enough, unless you have a lotta points of entry to the same environment or a small enough city/town, the Air mode has a lotta issues with mobility to get deep into the urban center. Pretty much the same issue as 1 but in reverse.
  4. One example of an area where the LAM excels is in areas where long engagements in open fields are Very Bad and you need something that has the tactical flexibility to both close the distance and be Very Far Away From The Very Spooky Thing On The Other Side Of The Field. Guess what little Urby does NOT have.

But yes, the novelty is very nice. I love my dumbass little trashcan. And now, said trash can has been given the gift of flight, for which he will use to dispense a high explosive load of "fuck you" and then nope outta there so fast that his consequences can't catch up to him.

For the Trash-Can now fly.

I regret to inform you that neither UrbanLAM variant has ballistic weaponry

*loud neck crackling*

W h a t.

The community reverse engineered their Classic stats from the AS card in the Forcepack, and figured out they had to have energy weapons only to actually work.

BURN IT ALL DOWN.

KILL. ANNIHILATE. KILL. ANNIHILATE.

DO NOT TAKE THE BALLISTICS OFF THE FUCKING URBY. I TOLD THIS TO THE DAVIONS.

Well, clearly not everyone listened.

Also, UM-R100 for life

JUST GET A PANTHER FOR THE LOVE OF MY SANITY

*laughs in 32nd century MixedTech revolution*

Clanspec Urbie refits go!

I am a-okay with slapping Clantech in an Urby. It's your mech. You want better equipment, I might judge you slightly for putting Clantech in an Urby if its not a uac/20 but you do you mate.

What i am NOT okay with is putting two types of energy weapons that are supposed to do the same damage as the component it replaced(ppc and two medium lasers, replacing the ac/20) when it could either have the two ppc's, or four medium lasers, maybe four pulse lasers to do the same damage.

You want to trade these weapons for an ADVANTAGE.

SPLITTING THE ENERGY WEAPON TYPES TO WEAPONS WITH DIFFERENT ENGAGEMENT DISTANCES IS HOW YOU GET A MECH THAT IS BOTH BAD AT HEAT MANAGEMENT, FIGHTING AT LONG RANGE, AND ADDITIONALLY, TO SOME EXTENT, SHORT RANGE COMBAT.

Please just get a Panther. I know a good dealer who can get you a 10k2. Please. I beg. I can put Clantech in it.

Okay, but consider.

Clanspec ERPPC with capacitor.

Or.

RISC Hyperlaser.

((PRecontext: MWO build loosely, but, should be TT-possible theoretically?)) Urbanmech UM R-80. Add 2x Snubnose PPCs. Drop the TAG, BAP, and both lasers. Swap the JJs for non-improved, and only 2. Spend remaining slots & tonnage on as many DHS as you can fit and the largest engine you can (before the 'sinks of course)

Is it smart? No.

Is it cheap? Heeeeell no.

Is it an ECM goblin that thrives in cities? Yes.

Is it a speedy little bastard of a trash can ready to hand-deliver snubnose-PPC projectiles to your rear CT? Yea

I'd build it in MM myself but MM demands a brand new version of java for no reason so it gets to live in the recycling bin

Created this abhorrent Striker variant in some ChemJet 185MM fume-induced fugue state last night. Sent the specifications to inspection, apparently. By the time I'd gotten there, I'd apparently gone completely nonverbal, and just sorta mumbled at the desk staff, slapped the necessary papers on the desk to get it approved, put on a welding hood and left. I woke up later with a light tank in my garage and no recollection of why i have several Guardian ECM computer components in my hands and a mostly completed custom Striker in my garage. Fun times! Taking this out dune-riding in a hot minute. Gonna go grab a hotdog or two on the way there cause there ain't shit in my body except whatever was in there from last night.

So I looked on the wiki and it turns out there's already a stealth variant that mounts MML 5s. Except instead of machine guns it mounts an SRM 6 with two tons of ammo. It also has a light engine.

My custom striker mounts no additional SRM, instead it mounts four machine guns with a half ton of ammo. It also has a fusion engine instead of a light, which makes it half the cost of the stealth variant on Sarna, and at 1.37 million C-Bills, slightly cheaper than some Urbanmechs. And capable of the same damage with SRM ammo mounted to the MMLs. And faster at 5/8 movement. And more tactically flexible.

I am a hero. *MANAICAL LAUGHTER*

Sometimes, the best variants are produced in a garage, in a blackout fugue state induced by chemical fumes

It really kinda sucks to be a fan of BT in the current decade or so

MWO is in a dire state, with the devs driving the proverbial car off a cliff at request of competitive players, ignoring all else

MW5 was and still is a dumpster fire of a game

Battletech (HBS) is Paradox DLC slop city. Want to pay $104 for a game? no? Too bad.

what else is there?

Tabletop? Hard to get into, different rulesets to the games by a mile

...books?...
