Done (apart from editing while rendering) with the line art for the King of Questionable Fashion Choices.
Got to looking through my older WIPs and decided I wasn't happy with Doflamingo. Like. Proportions off, sloppy line art, and he somehow came across as too unhinged?
If that's possible??
Like, idk man. It lacked the balance of Chill AF King vs Raving Psychopath that I desired.
Anyway I decided I'm gonna redo his Elton John looking ass, and well
Yeah much happier with this so far. Still gotta work on the proportions of the sunglasses a bit, but I'll get there.
For the record, I hate Doffy as a person but love him as a character.
Essentially I regard him as an amazing villain and love his character arc; but if I ever got isekai'd into the One Piece universe, I would happily punch him directly in the gonads and tell him exactly what I think of him (even if it was the only thing I got to do while there because I would almost certainly be killed within seconds).
So I will likely insult him at every turn any time I work on any project (art or writing) involving him. But please note that said insults come from a place of sort-of affection, and I will always do my best to capture the complexity of his character to the best of my abilities.
Ladies and gentleman,
Oops I, I mean
I mean
Doflamingo
Same thing though honestly. I mean we've never seen them in the same room. Definitely alter egos. I mean strings, piano wire, same difference.
Sorry I'll stop.
Actually really sorry, I will never stop and no one can make me
I was scrolling through my wips and just really wanted to do a color test for him. Might mute the pink a bit, but maybe not. I should be able to tone it down a little when I get around to rendering. Not too much, though, I do want bright colors for him.
Probably the last art update for tonight, just a bit more cleaning up and detail done on Doffy's linework around the face/hair/neck/man-tiddies.
And I already love him he's so unhinged and pretty
For those of you that have been here since before I rabbit-holed into Digital Art Land, I'm more than halfway through a headcanon thingy for Crocodaddy that falls in line with this whole ABC series thing I did when I first started Tumbling, so I'mma try to finish that tonight.
And to be honest I'm enjoying it way too much because I've always had a weird thing for the whole mafioso-type-character, and I'm feeling that trope heavily with Croc. As if my fan art wasn't enough of an indication of that. Low-key wanna see him roll up in Godfather-era NYC and effortlessly dominate at least two boroughs in ten minutes flat.
And yeah still on my line shading bullshit. It takes a lot of extra time but it's kinda really fun and helps guideline blending and shading later.
I just realized I can use the freehand selection tool in Krita to correct proportions/positioning that I don't like of individual elements of my line-art without having to erase and redraw everything and probably saved myself at least an hour of frustration.
Now I can focus the next ten years on drawing an unreasonable amount of feathers.
I'll be listening to my Elton John playlist for the duration of this endeavor because honestly Doflamingo's entire aesthetic makes me think of 70's/80's Elton John costumes.
I thought Croc might get lonely so I decided Imma draw his bff too
And I reserve the right to make his hair as fluffy as I want shush
