When I draw, I tend to make the facial expression of whatever character I’m drawing. I starting tearing up while drawing this and probably scared everyone around me haha

This is the vibe I’m getting from Sonic X Shadow Generations

So I designed this Sonic OC—Nova the unicorn—and commissioned Cat-Rage to draw her for me. I then uploaded it to Imgur…where it received more dislikes than likes. Looking back now I think the outfit is a little mismatched and I’d do it differently. Is that what’s wrong with this character? Or is there something else? Does it give off the impression of trying to cross MLP and StH? That wasn’t even my intention, I just like unicorns and thought a mythical creature character would make a unique contribution. Is the design bad? If anybody has any advice or constructive criticism I’d appreciate it. I want to try designing more characters and would like to know if there’s anything I should to do differently from now on.

My advice: Haters gonna hate. I personally think your character is gorgeous, but if people want to be negative they will always find a reason. Don't let them get you down. There is no right or wrong way to design a character, and there's certainly nothing "wrong" about your design. If you want to redesign her, do it for yourself, not for people online.
