Soooo.....
Whisper was called the "Guardian Angel" of the battlefield.
In Shadow Generations, Shadow had a lot of "angel" imagery with the wings (especially that one scene with him and Maria where he was totally giving off the vibes of being like a Guardian Angel for her).

Here's a mad thought about my theory for Sonic 3.
Say that quill will have importance and leads to the creation of metal Sonic..
My guess he'll appear in the final act for the third one, and if the Biolizard is gonna be in it..that could be an interesting concept.
In the final battle when Sonic, Knuckles and Tails have to stop the Ark from destroying the earth. They find the Biolizard guarding the main target, which will be the perfect time for Shadow to appear unexpectedly to aid the team like in the game
And when that is going on Sonic, Knuckles and Tails go to the target but then Metal Sonic appears (who was "programmed" by Gerald) to stop them .so Sonic decides to deal with him , so Knuckles and Tails can deal with the main target... meanwhile at the main floor Eggman has to confront his Grandfather in a epic showdown, as well as a race against the clock moment.. kinda like that bit in Captain America the Winter Soldier and Avengers age of Ultron..
Which would be rather poetic in a way
Shadow facing the Biolizard
Sonic facing Metal Sonic
Ivo facing Gerald
If you think about it
That would work as a scene as a "confront your worst version" kinda moment
Plus when Sonic finally Beats Metal Sonic
Metal Sonic's "death" would be off scene so when it shows a post credit scene of metal Sonic suddenly reactivating itself after the final battle...a promise for a fourth movie since they are technically working on it .
Think about it
If this happens I'll be surprised
I don't think they'll do that because it'd be a lot to introduce in one movie BUT I LOVE THE "FACE THE WORST VERSIONS OF THEMSELVES" CONCEPT!!!!!
