I think I need an emotional support writer to sit with me when I'm working on fics and reassure me that it's okay for two stories to have a similar scene. I ran into this when I basically re-wrote my 3-year-gap fic and I'm running into it again now on my current project.

Like, you're using the same characters and sometimes they're going to have similar reactions or similar traumas. It's going to happen, it's fine.

No one's going to look at two similar scenes across two entirely different stories and say, "Well this writer just can't come up with original ideas."

Sometimes the same people just choose to do the same things in different universes. Chill out, it's all fiction, buddy.

Thesis: the rise of fanwank and anti culture correlates directly with diminished understanding of what “romantic”, in a literary sense, actually means.

It doesn’t mean “this is ideal or healthy or even realistic”. It’s about grandiosity and mythology and heroism writ large. It’s about playing with the id, as beautiful and terrible as it can be.
