Tutorial # 3: Sharpening your GIFs
- Photoshop [I use Photoshop CS5]
- Some basic knowledge of how Photoshop works.
How to sharpen your GIFs:
- Open Photoshop.
- Make your GIF. If you don't know how to do that, check out this tutorial of mine
- Here is my GIF (Without any further coloring, sharpening or anything):
- Okay. Now select all frames, and click this icon:
- In the layers section, right click, and in the drop down menu, select Select Similar Layers.
- Now go to Filter > Convert For Smart Filters and then select OK in the menu that appears.
- You will now be able to see all of your layers as one.
- If you want add any coloring or texture to the GIF, you can do it now.
- This is what my GIF looks like now:
- For Sharpening, you can either use simple Sharpen, or Smart Sharpen. In this tutorial, I'll cover a bit of both.
- Go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen and you will see a big difference in your gif. This is what mine looks like:
Note that: Sharpening dramatically increases your gif size. So be careful!
- If you feel like Sharpen simply is not working for your gif, then you can use Smart Sharpen. It's kind of like a custom sharpening programme, and you can choose how you much you want to sharpen on your own.
