Survivalist leftist. Terminally online, theory-based, ivory tower leftists beware. The revolution is nothing more than an ex-fundie leftist’s rapture. No waiting for a savior. Be the change you want to see. Vote blue. Buy time.

The more I look at Tumblr Leftist responses to the election, the more it looks like someone who is deflecting blame from the person who is abusing them to protect themselves. They will forgive republicans for everything. They will forgive conservatives for everything. They will look the other fucking way as they burn down everything.

It’s all the fault of the democrats for not being perfect. If the democrats were perfect, this would not be happening.

Fawn, turn away, deflect, blame the people who are trying to fight the ones who are hurting you.

Your conservative father—your conservative Christian family—will never love you. Stop parroting their bullshit.

I kept thinking about this when I saw the antisemitism on the left. They will go after the outsider or minority before they even think about turning on the conservatives at home. They will spout the most antisemetic bullshit before considering the contributions their own relatives are making to keep the genocide going.

They keep asking for Democratic politicians to act like despots and strong men.

I no longer think they want a democracy or even socialism. That requires independence and hard work.

Leftism in this space isn’t socialist, it’s not about community, it’s not about saving lives. It’s authoritarianism with communist sparkle. Stalinism by another name.

They want Left Trump.

They want a demagogue who will love them.

And the monkey’s paw curls. Is this what you wanted?

(Which seems a cruel thing to say, but as I said earlier, I’m pretty heavily dissociating right now and therefore emotionally numb.)

I have voted against Donald Trump five times at this point, and you have the gall to direct your anger at me. How about you dissociate right out of interacting with me in any way until you're prepared to apologize.

I… agreed with you?

Yeah they did pretty clearly agree with you

Thank you. I was baffled by this reply.

OP: “We’re so keen on sending a message to Harris about Gaza we’ll make sure she never gets power!” is Bad, guys.

Me: Yup! Welcome to Bibi’s blank check.

OP: How dare you say I’m for giving Bibi a blank check!

…Piss on the poor website, truly true.

The "if you voted for Trump unfollow me" posts are returning, but given then general makeup of your average tumblr user I think there's a different message I'd like to give.

If you didn't vote because "both parties are the same" or "it won't make a difference" or because Kamala wasn't the pure and perfect leader that you wanted or you "didn't want blood on your hands", honestly whether or not you follow me doesn't make a damned bit of difference. But I want you to look. Take a good look at the despair around you right now. And every godforsaken thing that follows I want you to fucking look. Look and know that you could have helped prevent it. We still haven't recovered from his last four years, the world hasn't fucking recovered, and now we're staring down the barrel of god knows how many more years and a river of fucking blood to come along with it.

But your pride and your principles were more important to you than the actual real fucking world we live in.

I hope, if nothing else, that you can take this in. I hope you learn. I hope you grow. I hope you find it in you to realize that in this country they soak our hands in blood the second we take our first breath and the only thing that matters then is what you fucking do with them. What you fight for. Who you fight for. Who you defend.

I hope you wake up. And you step up. And you fucking fight.

But until then. Don't you fucking dare look away.

It’s not a waste of time to cure your ballot. Even if the presidential election has already been determined, cured ballots can still make a significant impact in local government. This includes city council members, local propositions, senate/house memebers etc.

Even though the presidential election is important it was not the only thing on our ballots. It’s still important to have your vote count. Cure your ballot and don’t be left wondering what would’ve happened locally if you didn’t.

Avatar

Another one I’ve seen today from the tumblr online left: “Could you stop despair posting in spaces where a vulnerable and suicidal minority are present? A minority whose lives I gambled with this past election and wrote off because I decided that their futures weren’t that important compared to my moral purity. It’s gross.”

I am sorry. We know what’s coming. Let us weep. We have a right to cry for what has been lost and what will be lost and the suffering that is baring down on millions of people.

After you decided that this was fine, you do not get to ask us to shut up as our lives and futures are compromised.

Fuck you.

One more thing before I go bury myself in a pile of blankets:

To everyone who voted Democrat for the first time, every former trump supporter who voted for Harris, everyone who voted for the first time, every Republican who did not want this result and voted for Harris, thank you.

I got a text from my cousin who has voted third party for decades who voted for a Democrat for the first time yesterday.

My aunt who voted for trump in 2016 and who's husband is a proud MAGA sent me a Snapchat late last night saying she is one of the women who secretly voted for Harris.

A former friend from college who used to be deep in the Republican party posted on Facebook yesterday that he voted for Harris.

I know you aren't the only ones.

I see that you tried.

black voters and Jewish voters CONSISTENTLY VOTE DEMOCRAT EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME BECAUSE WE BOTH KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SHIT HITS THE FAN.

we both know who they choose to blame each and every time when democracy fails.

“it’s the Jews! It’s the blacks!”

[except probably using slurs instead of the actual terminologies]

As a black person, I’m scared for us as black people but I’m scared for y’all Jewish people too. I don’t do much allyship with other groups because it’s always thrown back in my face, but I support y’all and thank y’all for trying to save democracy alongside us.

allegedly both white men & women voted majority red, but so did latinos and muslims. black people and jews alike have been begging people to vote for Harris because we know what another trump presidency would mean, probably more than anyone, and we're still here. the fighting happening online between black leftists and all other leftists in the weeks before the election was very telling. leftists have never actually cared about black people, or any other minority, they just want the excuse to be angry and yell because that's all they know how to do.

while i am very scared for my american friends, especially my trans, immigrant, and muslim friends, i can't help but remember that the genocide in gaza is still happening. they are already facing the worst case scenario that we will only get a short glimpse of while trump is in office. and he promises to do worse, hard to fathom as it is.

i never had any faith in the democratic party but with the federal government now entirely run by republicans i hope we can all wake up to the fact that we cannot trust it to help anyone. we have to care for each other ourselves.

which is why i'm asking you guys to donate to palestinian, lebanese, sudanese, and congolese fundraisers whenever possible. this post will center on my friend @ahmedpalestine. he's a close childhood friend of hazem khalil, who i also posted for in the past, but his campaign isn't receiving even a fraction of the support. he's vetted by @bilal-salah0 and gaza-evacuation-funds.

ahmed's cousin was martyred in september. they're stuck in al-maghazi camp on the coast of gaza, where there is a tank invasion and intense bombing. he told me he is now struggling to focus on school because every waking moment is spent worrying about his family. franky it's insulting that has to continuously beg online. he has no time for this. we have to do it for him

I haven’t really seen any of the more recent U.S. election news hitting tumblr yet so here’s some updates:

There’s evidence of Trump cheating and interfering with the election.

Possible Russian interference.

Mail-in ballots are not being counted or “recognized” in multiple (notably swing) states.

30+ bomb threats were called in and shut down polling stations on Election Day.

20+ million votes are still unaccounted for, and that’s just to have the same voter turnout as 2020.

There was record voter turnout and new/first-time voter registration this year. We definitely should be well over the turnout in 2020.

U.S. citizens are using this site to demand, not only a recount, but a complete investigation into election fraud and interference for the reasons stated above:

Here is what I submitted as an example:

An investigation for election interference and fraud is required. We desperately need a recount or even a revote. The American people deserve the right to a free and fair election. There has been evidence unveiled of Trump cheating and committing election fraud which is illegal. There is some evidence of possible Russian interference. At least 30+ bomb threats were called in to polling places. Multiple, notably swing states, have ballots unaccounted for and voting machines not registering votes. Ballots and ballot boxes were tampered with and burned. Over 20 million votes that we know of are unaccounted for. With record turnout and new voter registration this year, there should be no possibility that there are less votes than even in the 2020 election.

[ID:

A screenshot with a link and information for contacting the White House directly regarding election fraud. The instructions include choosing to leave a comment to President Joe Biden directly and to select election security as the reason.

The screenshot then instructs people to include any or all of the following information in a paragraph as a comment to the president:

32 fake bomb threats were called into Democratic leaning poll places, rendering polling places closed for at least an hour.

A lot of people reporting their ballots were not counted for various reasons.

This all occurred in swing states.

This is too coincidental that these things happen and swing in his favor after months of hinting at foul play.

Directly state that an investigation for tampering, interference, fraud is required, not just a recount.

Useful article from CNN on election-night misinformation.

Key takeaway is that pretty much whatever happens, Trump will claim it's evidence that the election is being rigged against him.

Some additional things to keep in mind--particularly if you haven't been through many of these before:

  1. The winner may or may not be projected on election night. How long it takes depends on a bunch of factors, having to do with the logistics of ballot-counting and how the statistical analysis comes along. Getting a projected winner by midnight and the count taking several days are both well within the range of normal, and neither one suggests that anything nefarious is happening.
  2. Counting of votes always continues for several days after the election, until every vote has been counted. This happens regardless of whether or not the media have "called" a winner, or a candidate has conceded.
  3. Media outlets project election winners based on the data that has come in and their statistical models--they do not "declare" or "decide" who won. The major outlets are very motivated to avoid an incorrect projection*, so if they make a call, it's because they're really sure they have enough information to accurately predict the outcome of the final count.
  4. Usually, when this happens, all of the major media outlets are making the same projection around the same time--within the same hour, at least, and often in the same 10 minutes or so. If there's an outlier, there's a good chance they're either guessing or propagandizing.
  5. Candidates do not get to call the race in their own favor. There's a decent chance Trump will try, but also it's also normal and expected for both campaigns to talk like they're expecting to win; e.g. introducing their candidate as "the next President of the United States" when appearing before supporters at events. (My guess is that if he does try, the mainstream media outlets will simply sanewash it as typical election-night bravado, which is actually fine.)
  6. The only thing that means anything, coming from a candidate/campaign, is a concession. This will often happen after the media has called the race for the other candidate; it usually isn't a surprise. A normal campaign will often go quiet--stop sending people to talk on TV, etc.--when they're getting ready to concede. (Trump arguably** still hasn't conceded 2020, so no one is particularly expecting him to concede any time this coming week.)
  7. It's normal for the numbers to change a lot. There are always some surprises, but there are also standard patterns: results from the southeast usually come in a clump, and put a lot of electoral votes into the Republican column, early in the night. Democrats usually pick up the west coast states, which of course are the last to close their polls and start reporting results***. For the swing states, where we'll probably see a lot of reporting on very incomplete vote totals, results will start coming in first from the rural areas, which lean red; cities take longer to count their votes--because there are more of them--and lean blue.
  8. The more uncertainty there is about the outcome, the more you'll hear about the evolving numbers--news networks have airtime to fill, and there's only so many ways you can say, "Still too close to call." Try not to obsess over these numbers; the news networks have people specially trained to analyze this exact kind of data, and if they can't say how it's going to turn out, you're not going to know, either.
  9. If it ends up being too close to call for several days, there will probably be reporting on small, county-by-county vote dumps. It's important to realize that this is all still the original count of the votes, not a recount or "finding new votes." We only hear about it when the election is so close that these relatively small numbers of ballots are likely to affect the outcome, but it happens every single election. In 2020, Trump repeatedly claimed that ongoing counts were some how irregular, and sometimes demanded that counts be stopped when the current total showed him in the lead. This is, to be clear, nuts; the full & complete count of the votes always takes more than just the one day, and it's a bedrock principle of democracy that every valid ballot is counted.

(* Back in 2000, the Bush-Gore election with the whole Florida debacle, several major news outlets did project winners too soon, and then had to walk back their projections.

This definitely contributed to the chaos that night, and may have also contributed to the widespread perception that Bush was the "real" winner and Gore was dragging the country through multiple recounts, in those first few days when the initial count of wasn't even complete in some states.

As a result, responsible media outlets are much more cautious these days about election-night projections.)

(**On January 7, 2021 he made a statement that was taken as indicating his understanding that Biden had won, or at least that he knew he wouldn't be staying in office, but he never stopped saying he won.)

(***This often looks like the Republican being miles ahead, and then suddenly California reports in and they aren't anymore. Expect Trump to pretend that this is somehow shocking, even though the last time a Republican won California was 1988.

Similarly, he will also pretend to be surprised when, for instance, Philadelphia turns in their first big batch of results, and Harris's numbers jump up.)

Most of us don't vote. That's the problem. Trump's unpopularity would be a lot funnier if we all voted. Only about 20% of the country supports him. That's still too many. He came in third in 2016, after not voting and Clinton. But he "won" because our system is rigged to lean conservative. Last time, fresh off four years of assclownery and in the middle of the pandemic, more people voted than usual and he lost in a way that actually mattered.

That's what it'll come down to again. Will the occasional voters vote this time? If they do, Harris wins. If they don't, maybe we'll start rioting again. That's the only bright side I can find here. Biden pacified liberals. Another Trump term could rile them back up. I don't really want that, but it's all I've got to cling to.

I can very safely tell you that the rest of the world is desperately aware of this. All of this. We're subjected to the inner workings of the US Electoral system for months on end even though we can do nothing about it. I know how it works, the voting rates, the demographics, the swing states etc and I have never once set foot in the US. It doesn't need to be explained to those outside the US. We already know you guys do this. That's why we're begging.

This posts exists as a screaming reminder to those in the US that is not just you that gets fucked by your choices. The rest of us do too. The US did not have to suffer any effects from 14 years of a UK Tory government. It didn't even register to you. But all of us had to suffer through 4 years of Trump because the US election has that much of an impact. It truly makes me heartsick to have to worry this much about an election in a country that is not my own but here I am begging anyway.

Hello. I mean this really imploringly, and really genuinely. If you're a U.S. citizen still on the fence about what to do for the election, please vote Harris. There's this idea circulating that the person you vote for should be someone you like, love, idolize and that is so very not true. You're voting for the opponent you'll face for the next four years when you have issues to protest and matters to vocalize. You're voting for the person most likely to give an inch when you protest the things that matter. You're voting for the person most likely to not strip away your existing rights and scatter your focus across the things we already won, and which can be taken away. We lost Roe v Wade under the Trump-appointed judges. The current trans-panic is so disgustingly on fire, and it's absolutely the Republicans eager to rip away what little protection there is. Both candidates are also, disgustingly, pro-Israel. But Trump will never ever give a fuck to any protest on that matter.

You don't want to be complicit in genocide. I get it. But if you're a U.S. citizen, you're already benefiting from the U.S.'s foreign policy, and that's already complacency. Refusing to vote or voting third party isn't absolving you of that. It's just letting Trump walk in the door. And letting Trump in is complacency. And your ability to organize, and to make change, will go so less far against a Trump cabinet than a Harris one. The material harm under Trump is real.

Does voting for Harris make you feel guilty? I'm sorry, but you have to bear it. Your guilt isn't what's important. A white person's guilt isn't important. A citizen of a global terror's guilt isn't important. Actions that pacify your guilt aren't important. Focusing on absolving your guilt is in fact harmful, as opposed to actions that can actually materially reduce harm.

Please protest. Please donate to good causes. Please support Palestine. Please be vocal. Please fight for BIPOC and LGBTQA+ rights. Please view Harris as the opponent whose ears these things fall on. Your ability to organize safely, largely, loudly, and effectively will go so much further under a Harris presidency. Please.

Just going to add onto this with the position the Sunrise Movement (climate change group) made when I was text banking with them because I think it summed it up really nicely:

I know things seem really crazy out there right now. Trump would be a disaster environmentally (and otherwise) but voting is a chess move, not a valentine. Voting is not about selecting a political savior who will single handedly fix all of our problems, it’s about selecting the terrain that you can best move forward in. Movements throughout US history have accomplished incredible things. The best shot we have at transformational change is with Harris in office.

hey my besties who live in red states: id like you to go out and vote anyway.

yeah, the electoral college means your vote doesn't count unless you win your state. it's a terrible undemocratic bullshit system. it's not going to change before this election,* so there isn't much point in complaining about it right now.

if you hold the belief that there's no point in voting because your voice will just be downed out by a chorus of bigotry- chances are other people in your state feel the same way. and because those people are not voting, it's impossible to know how many of you there are. the reason it's important to vote EVEN WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE is to make this number public.

when the minority in a state still goes out to vote:

- other members of the minority party know they aren't alone in their state. this encourages MORE people to vote in the next election

- the majority candidates are forced to divert some of their campaign resources away from swing states to secure a state they were already going to win

- the minority candidates are encouraged to spend some time campaigning in your state instead of abandoning it as a lost cause

- assuming you also vote in local elections, the minority is more likely to win representatives in the house

- who knows there might be so many of you that you fucking flip it by mistake

there has been a 700% increase in new daily voter registrations in the few days since Biden dropped out of the race.

thousands of people are deciding, right now, that voting is worth it. some of them live in your state. there is going to be a spike in blue votes across the country. this election is going to have the youngest voter turnout in history. this is the best possible time to join them. join us.

what have you got to lose? one afternoon?
