This part really makes me think that Raditz actually cared for Goku in his saiyanish way.
He just wanted to kill people with his little baby brother, is that so bad?
Also LOVED the expression Goku got when Raditz mentioned their parents.
And you get the sense that Raditz actually gave a bit of a shit about their parents, especially from that Db Minus comic. Also anyone else kinda get feels from his “come on, bro, whaddya say?” expression in the bottom panel?
You know, I never thought about this before, but I wonder whatever happened to that planet they never got around to conquering. Maybe Frieza got someone else to do it, but he couldn’t have been in that big a hurry if he was willing to wait a year for Vegeta to rendezvous with his team.
Yes! This is what I’ve been saying. Raditz deep down really just wanted his little brother. If he was as rotten as Vegeta, he would’ve killed Gohan right off the bat. But he actually kept insisting “I don’t want to hurt my nephew,” and until Gohan headbutted him, he didn’t.
@duhragonball yeah I also wonder how on-top of things Frieza is when it comes to missions. I guess interstellar travel has a lot of leeway for travel time. Like he wouldn’t think much of it if he doesn’t see some of his subordinates for a year or two.
@betaruga I get feels every time I look at Raditz, but yeah they intensify when I think about how hard he tried to get little bro to notice him and wanna join him and his gang.
On the topic of Raditz, I view his motives for wanting Goku around as mixed. Both that wanting to have his little brother around, and also wanting a subordinate so he’s not the lowest in the pecking order.
He puts up this big bad persona for him to try and be impressive to his much weaker younger brother. In Saiyan culture, that might have been impressive and he probably assumed Kakarrot would naturally want to join him because he’s big and strong and Saiyans naturally want to get stronger.
But lil Kakarrot’s a bit…defective. (In his eyes)
Raditz tries to change Goku’s mind…in a really ass backwards way if you ask me, but it’s what he thought would be effective. He couldn’t motivate Goku the way he thought a normal Saiyan would be motivated. (The thrill of fighting and killing and getting stronger.) So the only thing he had left at his disposal to change his mind with was his son, that Goku was obviously protective of. (Cuz it’s obvious he really doesn’t know much else about Goku.)
I don’t believe he was inviting Goku to join them because all he wanted to do is bond with his estranged brother. Raditz wanted to establish dominance right away. The language he uses supports that. He flat out tells him he’s going to make Goku his subordinate. (Which probably wasn’t the best way to sell himself.) But would he have wanted to bond with him too? I think so. Just not in a way our typical human standards would define bonding.
Like I stated earlier, Raditz was probably looking forward to being able to boss around a weaker Saiyan. Those reasons can only be inferred and I’m treading into headcanon territory with some of this, but he’s spent years with Vegeta and Nappa. Two Saiyans that were way stronger than he was, and probably had a stronger bond. We know that they looked down on him for being weaker, and possibly a bit more cowardly than they were due to his weaker power level. So he could be motivated to find Goku because he wanted his own partner to feel closer to.
Though Raditz and Vegeta were the same age, Vegeta was his superior. He’d never see Raditz as an equal. Vegeta also had Nappa, and Nappa probably favored Vegeta more because of elitism. In the game Dragonball Extreme Butoten, Nappa confronts Vegeta about killing him, and he says “I thought you and I were friends.” So those two probably had more of a positive relationship with one another (or at least it seemed) for Nappa to have believed that.
In most games that have Raditz and Nappa interacting, they seem to be antagonistic towards each other as well. Not to a severe degree but they argue with each other when face-to-face, and they both talk shit behind the eachother’s back. (They throw a lot of shade in Xenoverse 2 when you talk to them after switching mentors between Raditz and Nappa.) I have headcanons as to why that is too, but that’s going to make this post even longer and too much of a ramble than it already has been.
But that’s how I perceive Raditz’ motives so far. They’re something I’ve been trying to hammer out for my fic since it takes place when Raditz is on his way to recruit Kakarrot.
@davevin tag for Raditz talk.

reblogging here too due to my of love skeletons ;o;
Ok but can we talk about how emo, as a genre, defied gender roles in a big way? Like, everything about the culture, from the guys wearing makeup and womens’ skinny jeans, to the way they got unabashedly emotional in spite of the “men aren’t supposed to cry” narrative they’d obviously been socialized with, was just this complete “fuck you” to the idea that there’s a certain way to be a “man”.
And a lot of their detractors called them “girly” or “gay”. And they didn’t give a fuck! Fall Out Boy has a whole song entitled “Gay Is Not A Synonym for Shitty”, which referenced a famous Pete Wentz quote, where he basically said that if you thought his band sucked, to just say it sucked, and not be a “homophobic asshole” about it.
And, then, geez, My Chemical Romance took it a step further, and Gerard Way outright kissed one of his bandmates at concerts purely to infuriate homophobes who were at his shows.
A lot of these bands were openly for LGBT rights, for womens’ rights. I remember one instance where some band MCR was touring with asked women to flash their tits in exchange for backstage passes. And Gerard was so horrified by this, and told his female fans to “spit in the faces” of misogynists in the rock scene.
Like, god, these bands were so progressive. And they still are. Right after the Pulse tragedy, Brendon Urie literally danced around in a pride flag and told his queer fans what they meant to him. Pete Wentz said that “Uma Thurman” was meant to show his female fans that they could be “badass”, too. And Gerard pretty much admitted in an interview to somewhat identifying with the label “nonbinary”.
That’s the most lasting impact that emo is going to have. Showing fans of all genders that there’s nothing wrong with being whoever the fuck you are, that there’s no specific way to be a man or woman. And, god, I just fucking love that.
Hello, honest opinion here.
I don’t like it when fanfics portray Temari as a hot-headed tsundere who’s just on Shikamaru’s ass all the time.
(I admit, it’s funny, but not if it’s not in the right context. This could perhaps have happened after Shikamaru broke up with her over something idotic he did/was thinking about)
I feel like she’s a woman with lot of compassion and smarts. She can be tough, cruel and merciless, but chooses to be so only in battle. And after the war, she can be seen, literally, letting her hair down. Look at that gentle flowing fringe and relaxed pair of ponytails. This girl is chill.
And i don’t think she’s really cut off from her emotions or puts as a tough face as most people think. She analyses the situation and adjusts herself accordingly. Like when she punched Shikamaru in Shikamaru Hiden- that was blatant display of emotion, and the whole misunderstanding in Konoha Hiden, that was just how a resourceful girl who had been thrown into a life of war, assassins and battle instead of boys, drama and love would react. She was shy, and humble to accepting that she had been wrong about it too.
If anything, I’d say that her weaknesses are that she can be too confident in her abilities at times, and possesses more bloodlust than would be desirable in an opponent. I also feel like she’d be the wet blanket at times, because she would not participate in dumb competitions or games.
Perhaps she’d even be a little insecure about letting people get close to her because she doesn’t want to leave her or her family vulnerable to anyone or anything.
Also, I’d like to say everyone who believes in the tsundere stereotype probably thinks she’s a softie on the inside, but i’m gonna call it and say she loves to be in control in bed and would defo be on top. Hey, if i was a lazy strategist like shikamaru, I’d let her do whatever she wanted to me.
(I gotta admit this is my favourite picture of shikatema because i can picture them getting into a fight on a mission after the war and this being a battle after a long time, their conversation doing something like: Shikamaru saying something like, “ugh, let’s finish this quick” or “Try not to enjoy this too much” and Temari just unable to control herself, saying “I can’t promise you anything”)
Which brings me to my next point, it kills me when people misread their relationship. Don’t forget that they got together on a foundation of mutual respect- she didn’t corner him into a wall, and he didn’t just fall into a trap. They were pulled together by the universe because they were their own equal matches, and they stayed together because of their striking similiarities and complementing differences. They’re a good team with the most mature and realistic relationship- heck, I’d even call it my goals.
Eventhough wouldn’t be the type to show PDA, but i can imagine the one time they get caught, both of them would blush and Temari would walk out of Shikamaru’s hands with a smile on her face. Shikamaru would of course just say nothing and walk the other way, pretending like it never happened.
Temari is just such an awesome character and i wouldn’t say she is over the top badass, she is just extraordinarily intelligent, decisive, resourceful, kind, passionate, fair and just so so so cool. Major respect to Kishimoto for creating a realistic female character i can look up to.

Vegeta dressed as Kagome!
I think he kinda enjoyed that one????
OH MY GOD. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THANKS!
I get that you like independent women who can be happy without men.
But does feminism today mean that you create a new perfect role women have to match to be considered as “good women”?
Does it mean that women are not allowed to be housewives and mustn’t be madly in love with men anymore? Doesn’t feminism mean equal freedom for men and women and not replacing old restrictions with new ones? I know that Hinata isn’t the first person to think of when discussing independent women.
But does that make her a bad one? I don’t think so.
Only her qualities and skills as a Hyuuga mattered to her family. Not her character. Not her effort. Just the results of her fighting style. She wasn’t very talented as a Kunoichi. She even lost against her sister.
How could she find her place in the world when she would only deserve a place in the Hyuuga family when she was a strong fighter? How could she feel like a valuable human being when the Hyuuga measured her skills in victories?
Her mother never bothered to give her the feeling that she is fine the way she is. Her father never bothered to encourage her. Her sister was too young to remind her that she doesn’t have to be good in fighting to be a loveable daughter. Being the heiress of the Hyuuga isolated her within her family and even outside of it. Remember when other kids bullied her just because she belongs to the Hyuuga, since they thought she would be arrogant? Since they thought her eyes were scary? She didn’t even get the chance to prove them wrong. Again, the name of the Hyuuga was nothing but a burden to her, crashing her self-confidence even more. Do not forget that in this time even Neji hated her so much just because she belonged to the main family. Being the way she is was an equivalent to being unhappy. It must have looked like and endless circle to her. Being part of the Hyuuga –> having to be a skillful Kunoichi –> not satisfying expectations –> not being able to defend herself –> getting bullied because of being part of the Hyuuga… Bleak prospects for her life. Especially since there was no one who showed any sympathies.
Of course the situation she was caught in damaged her self-confidence most, but moreover some people just have to habitude to be very shy and sensitive. I think you know one or two people who are like that as well. Anyway, everything contributes to her basic attitude that she is just a burden, increasing the feeling that she’d rather be invisible. Later that fact becomes important.
In the beginning she said that she wants to become kind like her mother and strong like her father, making her parents her role models. Apparently, she absolutely failed. She didn’t seem to be kind enough in her opinion, since no one appreciates her for that, and she wasn’t as strong as her father and high likely she never would.Feeling like a failure she met another person who was called a failure. Naruto.
He behaved totally different compared to herself, although people considered him worthless as well. By watching him she started to learn that there was a different way to deal with her weaknesses. In fact, Naruto showed her a way how to deal with her life without giving it up. He became a role model she was able to emulate without feeling like failing at all. Of course, she would never speak to him, since she was still shy and still thinking that she was a bother to everyone after people drummed that into her for so long. It’s just natural that she didn’t want to be a bother to the person she admires and emulates all the more. She behaved like she didn’t want to transfer any of her “negative” energy to Naruto. Naruto became the reason for her to change her life. The reason to keep going. The person, who didn’t care which family name she carried and just took her as she were. Who proved her that the clan she was born into and the way she has been don’t determine her future. Since he was the only one to behave like that and to give her the courage she needed, he became the most important human in her life.
Hinata needed time to build enough self-confidence that she didn’t feel like a burden anymore. Then she spoke properly to Naruto for the first time.
Of course she was still shy, especially since he is the measure stick for her development, but she overcame her feeling of being irrelevant. She continued to grow stronger and more self-confident while continuing to follow Naruto on his path to having got things straightened out with himself. As a symbol of the Hyuuga she even opposed Neji, to whom she has always submitted to since she felt like a less valuable human being compared to him. All thanks to Naruto.
Some people say she is just a mere copy of Naruto because she has the same “Nindo” like him, but in my opinion the sentence “I never go back on my word” has a different meaning for Hinata. For Naruto it means to keep his promises and announcements, but for Hinata it stands for not reverting back in her old ways. Not changing her mind about her own value. Not ceasing to try to improve.
That she complements Naruto with her attitude is shown when she reached the climax of her development for the moment. I am speaking of her declaration of love which summarizes why Naruto is so important to her, more than anyone else. We already saw her progress when she raised Naruto’s morale right before his fight against Neji, but the confession surpassed it.
She explains in a metaphorical sense that without him her life wouldn’t have been worth living anyway.
Without him she would have never found the courage and the appeal to change. Without him she would have continued to lead her bleak life – assuming that she wouldn’t had broken totally into pieces.
She chose to die for him not just because she loves him but because in her opinion she owes him her life for preventing her back then from ruining it. This is so much more than romantically love. This is dedication.
She would have died voluntarily because she considered her life already his after giving her a reason to continue living as a child. Saying “I wanted to be at your side” does not just mean that she wants to strike up a romantical relationship with him. It means that she wants to draw level with him regarding character strength and role model function and to acquire all of his attributes she was guided by. That she wants to become a person Naruto loves and admires since that would top her change off. And, of course, she wants to become a person who is there for him when he is weak exactly like he was there for her when she was weak. That’s why she absolutely did not expect to receive an answer to her love confession directly afterwards. She confessed out of the personal reason to prove the development to herself. To prove to herself, that she already became someone who dares to speak his mind aloud without being too shy and retiring to claim her right of telling somebody how she feels. That’s why she was smiling. She felt at peace with herself. That’s the last thing her development is missing: the portion selfishness of wanting Naruto to be with her instead of just wanting him to be happy.
Ahhhh, the controversial Neji scene. First of all I want to say that I am also sad about his death. I also wish that it wasn’t necessary. And I also think that he didn’t deserve this. But why do people complain that Hinata isn’t grieving enough and shortly after his death already thinking about Naruto? Although she hadn’t been good enough for her clan as a child, she received the classical Kunoichi education, containing that there is no time for grieving on the battlefield, especially when the outcome determines the fate of the world. And she knows as well that Neji’s death would be ridiculously wasted if they stopped fighting there to grieve. Additional to that, three years ago Neji tried to kill her and made her life a living hell. Considering that, I actually think that she was enough sorrowful. If she had sat down and hadn’t been able to fight anymore, everyone would have called her a burden and useless. There is no way to please those who deliberately want to hate her anyway.
Why is it so negatively notable that she turns her attention to Naruto after that? The outcome of the war depends on him. Her fate and the fate of the others depend on him. The value of Neji’s sacrifice depends on him. Of course he is the one she has to remind of the reason why they are fighting! The way she uplifts him just shows another step of her development. She doesn’t depend on telling Naruto what he wants to hear; meanwhile she is even able to criticize him in a supporting way when necessary. She stands strong when Naruto is weak, that’s what she always wished for. Being his role model in a situation. This is even more important than accepting to die for him. Hinata became truly strong!
I heard many people complaining as well that she thought of the warmth of Naruto’s hand afterwards. Everybody who thinks that this is meant in any sexual way is just plain stupid. Of course this “warmth” has a different meaning than Hinata being aroused by the fact that her beloved one holds her hand. Is she blushing? No. Is she smiling? No. It just means that his charisma, the presence she always admired him for, came back. The safety he radiates. The characteristic they need to win this war. If you want to see Hinata like a girl who only thinks of dating Naruto and having a romantical relationship with him, I cannot prevent you from doing so. But this just originates from your own personal, blind dislike and not from reality. Yes, Naruto is more important to her than her family, but that’s justified. Naruto is the one who gave her the will to live. Not her family.
Hinata deserved being Naruto’s partner, because she worked hard to become capable of that regarding mental and physical strength. Her love for Naruto is pure, because it doesn’t depend on his looks or his successes but only on his characteristics all the others noticed much, much later. He is her hero, because he became the reason for her to continue living and improving – something nobody else managed to become. She worked so hard for not depending on him saving her anymore but for becoming his cornerstone instead. He is so important to her not because she needs a man but because he is her role model. Hinata didn’t speak to Naruto as a child because she didn’t dare to, since she wasn’t self-confident at all. Of course her life centers around Naruto, but I think this is actually legit since without him she wouldn’t have this life at all. There is no reason to hate on Hinata. She became Naruto’s tower of strength and the person who loves him for what he is and not for what he does. Similar to his parents’ way of loving him. That’s why she is the right one.
So I was thinking about Bulma, as you do, and I can’t stop thinking about how lonely a child she must have been. At 16, instead of spending her summer vacation with friends, she went out by herself on a dangerous adventure to find herself a boyfriend. Did she even really have friends? Too rich and too famous to be friends with normal people, too smart, too pushy, too aggressive, too independent to really be friends with fancy people.
Imagine little Bulma wanting mama to teach her all about makeup and how to look pretty. Imagine Bunny lifting her brilliant little girl into her chair and playing dress up. Imagine Bulma memorizing every little detail, sneaking mama’s makeup and putting it on before school. Imagine everyone laughing at her because 6 year olds shouldn’t wear make up. Imagine her just getting angry and instead of crying huffing over to her seat with her lunch and telling herself that they don’t matter because she looks pretty like mama.
Imagine Bulma convincing herself that she doesn’t have friends because they’re all jealous of her, ignoring the loneliness in favor of telling herself that she’s great and she’ll meet people who appreciate her eventually.
Imagine Bulma going from reading fairy tales to romantic novels to romance novels telling herself that what she really needed was her prince charming who would understand her and appreciate her and be perfect, because who needs friends when you have a boyfriend?
Imagine Bulma mumbling to herself while she’s fixing a car that who wouldn’t want to date a girl like her? Brilliant, gorgeous, great with tools, but really the reason no one wants to date her and nobody really wants to be her friend is because they either think she’s too weird or unapproachable, because she built up this defense around herself to protect herself from loneliness.
Imagine Yamcha realizing once he goes back with her to West City that this beautiful confident girl’s walls are up too damn high, is too defensive, because no one is in a class with her, and actually falls in love with all of her flaws. Imagine Bulma taking Yamcha back with her and slowly realizing that she was just telling herself that she needed a boyfriend because she didn’t have anyone else. And eventually realizing that Yamcha isn’t anywhere near her level, he was just the first cute boy to like her back, and it’s not enough, especially when she finally does have real friends.
DIGGING THIS! Bulma’s genius (like being able to repair/understand alien technology and develop advanced scientific theories at the tender age of 5) her beauty and her wealth are all impressive but completely alienating traits when it came to her interacting with peers her age, and I believe that ABSOLUTELY played a part in her feeling like she had to WISH for a boyfriend worth her salt.
Could you also do an MBTI analysis on Bardock?
Of course. He’s Goku’s Saiyan father, so i guess he’s not off topic :)
The thing is, there are two Bardocks. One is the Bardock from the TV special Father of Goku, the other one is from manga Dragon Ball Minus. I can’t type the first because his head are plagued by too much magic and dramatic shit, even his power level is abnormal, i can’t see how it NORMALLY operated. I apologize in advance if he’s the one you want to talk about.
Minus’ Bardock however, although the manga is very short, i could see what he used. I headcanon him as a ISTP - THE MECHANICS, with the use of Ti-Se-Ni-Fe.
Introverted Thinking (Ti) : Bardock is said to be very logical and calm in his judgment, making him the strange Saiyan in smarts. Indeed he made logical decision regarding Kakarot, rejects options that he thinks don’t work, chooses the best way, and explain reasons to others. He’s the only one who sees something bizarre in Frieza’s order, asking why was it, and why is the way Frieza’s ship is right there near the planet.
Extroverted Sensing (Se) : Look how he CLEARLY enjoyed kicking that sonovabitch. He’s likely very natural, very engaging in fighting, seeming a respected warrior.
Introverted Intuition (Ni) : He suddenly FELT something bad is going to happen and this urged him to take action immidiately, and it turned out to be true.
Extraverted Feeling (Fe) : As a clever, cool-headed Saiyan he’s not likely to let feelings decide, but we can see him freely show them with smiles and expressions, even a hug for Gine, and very hearty comments about things, like the reunion and Kid Vegeta. He’s a strangely kind Saiyan, who can’t help but cares for his close people (which he grumpily said it was Gine’s fault, so it’s insecure and versatile like the way Fe is)
Some thoughts of mine :
- I considered ENFJ, because Bardock showed VERY strong Fe, and indeed it’s so strong he’s famous for saving his comrades and is loved by them, but as he’s also very calmly logical unlike a feeling-driven ENFJ, I suppose it’s the ISTP’s inferior Fe.
- Kakarot clearly inherited the Se-Ni dynamite from daddy (SP types). Both are individualistic, very unique among their kind, but Goku as an F makes decisions based on whether he likes something (Fi dominant - internal ethics) or not rather than whether he sees the logic of that something (Ti dominant - internal thinking)
- Strong Ti users like Bardock and Bulma (ESTP) usually look like they are smarter because their thinking evolves a lot of “how”s and “why”s - they want to know how things logically work, unlike Te users who just access the hard, pure external facts and takes actions (Goku, Vegeta and many others in DB) And their Fe, directed towards others, makes them look like they are kinder, too. Fi-Te is more single-minded, very domineering and self-sufficient.
- I can not identify TV special Bardock’s function stack, but it looks to me he is like most simple-minded Saiyans : ruled by personal ethical feelings that he doesn’t share - Fi, to the point he went mad and left all others behind to die as soon as they mocked him.
- MORE ABOUT THE ISTP HERE. Personally i think they are the coolest type i’ve ever known in both real life and fiction.
Reblog to add that In Bardock’s place, even if Goku or Vegeta might be smart enough to figure out Frieza was up to no good, their thought process would be “I don’t like him, he’s a bastard that’s beneath me/I will never obey him” (Fi) and then “I have evidences/experience as to why he’s a bastard right here/I’d rather see what he’d do and kill him myself (Te) . Which is not reallly a good approach to this problem considering Frieza hasn’t done anything to give them “facts” and “evidences”, not to mention they can’t hope to fight Frieza with Saiyan strength. Asking the illogical motives behind it makes Bardock even smarter than he really is (Ti) and all his actions is out for saving people (Fe) , a perfect solver to Frieza’s puzzle in this particular situation, even without the strength to succeed in saving everybody and his fight with Frieza (Te) Not surprisingly on the other hand, in his own place, Kid Vegeta with his proud massive guts aka highass Te-Fi, seemed to have done just that : straight up ignored the order.
Made this out of frustration from a lot of mistypings i’ve seen from people and even myself in the past ( well i mistyped myself for a year, so…) and inspired from a chat with @notanotherbrickinthewall, and because i am too lazy to do long posts in a row lol. Will update when i do more. Asks for evaluation and discussion welcomed :D Also i forget things about some of them, check the ???? )
I like how Dragon Ball inverses the ‘pure-blood’ trope of supernatural stories (for example, half-elves being not as smart as regular elves, half-vampires having less powers than regular vampires).
The half-Saiyans in Dragon Ball aren’t a watered down version of full-blooded Saiyans. They’re better than Saiyans, since they have the benefits and powers of both humans and Saiyans. The combination of the two species didn’t “spoil” the bloodline. It created a new improved population of stronger fighters.
I made a little Dragon Ball fan animation, reminds me of my intern at Toei
What if Gohan learned Makankosappo from Piccolo ?
