Nightmare

Chi-Chi woke in the middle of the night to a soft whimpering.

She blinked several times, trying to figure out where it was coming from.  She rolled over to the other side of the bed, expecting the usual sight of Goku sprawled flat on his back, snoring to the high heavens.

What she saw instead was her husband lying on his side, his hulking frame curled tightly into a ball.  His face was pressed against his pillow, muffling the whimpers that she only now realized were his.

“Goku?” she whispered.  She laid a hand on his rigid back.  Was he having a nightmare?

The whimpering went on.  It was barely audible, but something the sound was so broken, so filled with the deepest despair.  Worried, she shook him harder.  “Goku?  Wake up, it’s just a dream.”

He shot up straight in bed.  He stared at her with wide, disoriented eyes.  He opened and closed his mouth several times, trying to say something.  He reached out toward her, and stopped midway, his hand shaking.

“What is it?” she asked, grabbing his arm.

His face crumpled and before she knew it, he pitched forward into her arms.

It terrified her to see him this way—a man normally so happy and confident.  He had always been the strong one.  Now he was clinging to her like a child, tremors wracking through his body.  Oh Kami, he was crying.

Her own eyes filled with tears as she held him tightly.  What was wrong with him?  What had kind of nightmare had driven him to this?

It was no use asking him in this state.  She could only croon reassurances as she pulled him back down to the bed with her, laying his head her breast to stroke his hair. Delicate hands gradually moved down to his shoulders, caressing his broad chest, tracing the rippling muscles with her fingers.

He clung to her in a way he had never done before, trembling with desperation.  She was painfully aware of the twisted joy in the midst of her concern.  She couldn’t stand seeing him like this, and yet she was happy that he reached out to her—that he was the one that needed her.

It seemed like hours before he finally stopped shaking.  The tension eased from his body, although he wouldn’t let go of her.

“Sorry,” he whispered.

She shook her head.  “Nothing to be sorry about.  Are you okay?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“It…” He faltered, suddenly embarrassed.  “No.  It—it was stupid.”

“You can tell me,” she urged softly.

“It was nothing,” he insisted.  “Really.  I’m fine.”

She didn’t press it.

For a long time they lay together in silence.  Right before Chi-Chi closed her eyes, Goku spoke up.  “Chi-Chi?”

“Hmmm?”

“When I was dead, you…” He hesitated.  “…you didn’t want to marry anyone else?”

Chi-Chi looked up at him, shocked.  “What?”

“Did you ever want to marry anyone else?” he repeated.

“There wasn’t anyone else!”

“I know.”

“Then what does it matter?” she asked, growing agitated.  That had been years ago.  The Son family was long since reunited.

He averted her eyes.  “Just curious,” he mumbled.

All right, two could play this game.  “Well, if I died, do you think you would marry someone else?” she challenged.

He jerked his head around.  “No!”

“Then why are you asking me this?” First the nightmare, and now he was bringing this up.  What had gotten into him?

He hesitated.  His dark eyes clouded.  “I’m just saying…if…if you did fall in love again…when I died…I…”  The words came slower, like he had to force them out.  “If you wanted that…if you…were happy…I…it would have been okay.”

And looking at his face, Chi-Chi suddenly realized just what he might have dreamed about.

Deeply moved, she cupped his face in her hands.  “Oh Goku, I’d never want anyone else.  When you died, I waited because I thought you were waiting for me too.  Weren’t you?”

“Course I was!”

She nodded.  “Just like if I died, I’d be waiting for you.”

“Right…” He grew anxious.  “But that won’t be for a long time.”

“That’s right,” she agreed.  “So don’t worry about it.”

He smiled, the shadows finally leaving his eyes.  “Okay.”

With that, she kissed him passionately, which led to something that would ensure neither one of them would have bad dreams for the remainder of the night.

- Thank you for the lovely submission, my friend. Goku's reaction was adorable! :)

Glad you liked my fic! But the second I submitted it to you, I had an idea for this alternate/extended ending where instead of going back to the house, Goku and Goten decide to keep playing monsters by"kidnaping" Chi-Chi and taking her to a cave. And Chi-Chi wakes up in the middle of the game is like "Huh?" Should I write it? BTW I loved that someone else did the knockout story!

I GOT IT.

TOTALLY GONNA PUBLISH IT RIGHT NOW.

Monsters

Chi-Chi paused from her gardening to watch Goku and Goten playing a few feet away.  She smiled.  It was wonderful to see her youngest son getting to know his father.

“Show it again, Daddy!” Goten kept saying, bouncing around his father.

“You’ve already seen it before!” Goku laughed.

“But I wanna see it again!  Please, please, please, please, please, please, please…”

“Okay, okay,” Goku relented.  “Get ready!”

Curious, Chi-Chi got up and walked towards them, absentmindedly brushing dirt off her skirt.  What were those two up to?

Before she could ask, there was an explosion of wind and light.  She shrieked, shielding her eyes against the blast.  She dug her heels into the ground so that she wouldn’t be knocked off her feet.  As soon as the light dimmed and the earth stopped shaking, she looked back to Goku and Goten.  Her mouth fell open.

Where Goku had been standing now was some…creature a long golden mane and fierce teal eyes.

Chi-Chi barely had time to register the sight before she fainted.

“Chi-Chi!”

“Momma!”

Goku and Goten hurried to her side.  Goku patted her face gently.  “Chi-Chi, wake up!  Are you okay?  Come on, honey, please wake up…”

Chi-Chi stirred and moaned as Goku helped her sit up.  “I’m okay,” she said groggily, squinting at the bright light.  “I don’t know what happened…I just thought I saw this horrible monster…”

Her vision slowly cleared, giving her a close-up not of her husband’s familiar face, but the face of that thing.  Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she slumped into Goku’s arms.

“I think Super Saiyan 3 scares her,” Goten said.

“Yeah,” Goku said sheepishly.

“She didn’t like it when I first turned Super Saiyan too.”  Goten frowned suddenly.  “She said I looked like a monster too.”

“Sounds about right,” Goku sighed as he hoisted his wife’s limp body off the ground.  “We’d better get her some water.”

Goten bit his lip.  “Does she really think we’re monsters?”

“Of course not,” Goku assured him.  “Your mother loves us. She just doesn’t like it when we change like that.  She freaked out when she saw me and Gohan as Super Saiyans.  And she’s never seen this one before.”

Relieved, Goten giggled.  “You do kind of look scary that way.  Like in one of those monster movies.”

“Heh,” Goku grinned.  “C’mon, my fellow monster.  Let’s take this pretty girl back to our lair to be our prisoner.” The two of them laughed as they went inside.

It took another hour of Goku’s ministrations—holding smelling salts under her nose, splashing ice water on her face, fanning her, rubbing her hands and face, calling her name over and over—to revive Chi-Chir.  He made sure to power down from Super Saiyan 3 before she opened her eyes.

Again! Thank you for the lovely story! You're such a great writer, and I loved Chichi's reaction!

Knockout

The day started out normally enough.  Goku had been home for a week, bringing Uub with him like he did every so often.  Chi-Chi, who was happy whenever Goku took a break from training, was equally pleased to have Uub for a visit.  She’d grown fond of the boy.  In fact, in the months since Goku had taken him on as a new student, he’d practically become another member of the Son family.  She was looking forward to everyone coming later over for a nice family lunch…

Thought I sent this earlier this week, but I'm retrying: I have this idea of Chichi demanding to go with Goku and the boys to a battle, and Goku doesn't want her to because he's worried that she get hurt. So Goku distracts her by pulling her into this really passionate kiss while he knocks her out. Once the battle is over, he goes home knowing he's in trouble, but Chichi just glares at him and is like, "You're lucky that was such a good kiss."

I did not get a message like this, good thing you sent it again! :)

Uncompleted Fics

One of my many, many, many pet peeves about fanfics is when they are left unfinished for months (and eventually years)!  Some of the best G/CC fanfics I’ve ever read still aren’t completed!  It’s like the authors dropped off the face of the earth!  Examples include:
Gradual Love by Leia
Widowed (can’t remember the author but it’s on ff.net)
Just A Little Cut by Serina Tsuki
Even If She Hates Me by Kakkabrat — like When Worlds Collide, this is yet another Goku and Chichi break up fic, but unlike the aforementioned story, Kakkabrat at least got them back together before leaving it uncompleted!
I understand that real life can interfere, but seriously, it’s not fair to leave readers hanging!

Gradual love is in my top fav GCC fics!

WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. DON'TMAKE ME TALK ABOUT IT. FUCKING LOVE IT. Really! When worlds collide was one of the first GCC fics I've ever read and it hooked me even more with the OTP.

Personally, I too get sad/angry when reading a great fic that is uncomplete but I guess we can do anything. I just click of "follow" story and hope that maybe someday I'll get an e-mail saying my loved fic is updated! It's really really important to try to understad fanfiction authors, they do it for free and out of love to writing, so we have to understand that they may lose interest in some fics or that they just forgot about it. Sad, but we have to understand :( even tho I want all those uncomplete fics to have a end D:

Sure I don't mind that you published it; I figured you would to share your own thoughts! And for the record, I totally agree with your perspective. That was basically me responding to fanfics that have Chichi getting upset that Goku's always leaving her behind.

Avatar

I hate that kind of fics. Like, I understand Chichi I'd have left Goku a long ago if I were her, but that woman is the most loyal one. I think she still gets a little sour at him leaving her because nobody likes it, but she loves him and accepts that if she wants to be with Goku he'll be absent plenty times, but that's why Chi-chi is so awesome, she just trust Goku to always come back anddd uggggh im having the feels.

Avatar

Something that's been bugging me for a while: everybody always gives Goku flack for leaving Chichi behind...well, why didn't Chichi just go with him to Master Roshi's, Namek, etc? It's fine if she would rather be a wife and mother instead of a fighter, but she COULD have fought. She COULD have gone with him. Goku may have left her behind, but she let herself get left behind too. That's just my opinion.

Avatar

Well, Goku most of the times leaves her behind, but it's not like he wants to, it's something he needs to do, also he always comes back as soon as possible, so I think it's okay?

I know she could fight and join Goku but can you imagine if both of them  were fighters like you know how Goku would've lost it if something happened to Chi-chi? Like I bet he doesn't even like to have Gohan fight (life or death kind of fights) So I guess that it would be the same with Chi-chi, He wouldn't stand have her in the battle field.

In my opinion, I think she chose to "stay behind" because it was the best, it's not like Goku fought normal guys, not even Krillin who's the strongest human on Earth can stan a chance against those guys. I think that if Chi-chi had decided to fight along him she'd be more like a burden, but maybe it's just me, and I really don't blame her for staying out of the battlefield, imagine if both of them died and left Gohan alone, oh please no.

Is it okay that I publish this? I didn't know if you want me to answer this privately, sorry!

Headcanon: Goku likes to kiss Chichi when she's sleeping.

Goku also likes to fondle Chi-chi when she's sleeping ; )

Sleepover

“Momma?  Daddy?” Goten whispered, knocking on the door of his parents’ room.

He’d woken up in the middle of the night to hear something going on in there.  He was so used to the house being quiet at night that even the slightest noise startled him.

Somehow, he had a feeling it had to do with his father.  Before he came back from the dead just a week ago, his mother just went to bed.  But now that he was living with him, her room was his room too.

Despite the closed doors in both rooms, Goten’s Sayian hearing could make out soft voices.  He relaxed: his parents must like to talk to each other at night, just like he and Gohan did in their shared room.

Then he heard other noises.

Sheets shifting.  A giggle.  The mattress creaking.  At one point even a big thud.

Goten’s eyes narrowed.  He got out of bed and tiptoed closer to the door to hear better.  He didn’t know what was going on, but he was curious.  He could still hear voices along with the other noises, though it didn’t sound like his parents were exactly talking.

The sounds went on for a while.  It sure wasn’t bothering Gohan, who was snoring away in the bed next to Goten’s.  When it finally stopped, his curiosity got the better of him.  He crept out of his room and knocked on his parents’ door.  “Momma?  Daddy?”

No answer.  Hesitantly, he opened the door.

The bed was empty.  Even stranger was the fact that the blanket had been pulled off.  Goten was frightened.  Did a monster come and take his parents?

He was about to run to Gohan when he caught sight of a shape of something poking out of the other side of the bed.  He crawled on top of the mattress and peered over the edge.

His parents were sleeping on the floor covered with the missing blanket, his mother lying on his father’s chest.

Suddenly, everything made sense: his parents were having a sleepover!

Goten had never been to one, but he heard about them.  That was when you went over to someone’s house, had pillow fights, and slept on the floor.  No wonder their room was so messy!

He never knew grown-ups had their own sleepovers.  He was glad his mother was having fun after everything that happened with Majin Buu.  But he still would have liked to go to a sleepover.

Well, his parents wouldn’t mind if he came to theirs, would they?  He ran back to his room, grabbed his blanket, and returned to settle in between his parents on top of their blanket.

His first sleepover!  What fun!

**

Waking up in Goku’s arms after seven years was like waking up in heaven.  Chi-Chi smiled through half-closed eyes as she snuggled closer to him.  She felt his fingers trail through her hair and down her back.  “Morning,” she purred.

“Morning,” he murmured back.

“Morning!” another voice rang out cheerfully.

Goku and Chi-Chi shot up straight in horror as they came face to face with their younger son.  “Goten, what are you doing here?!” Chi-Chi shrieked, hiding under the blanket.

“I wanted to join your sleepover!” Goten grinned happily, jumping into his father’s lap.

 “Sleepover?” Goku asked blankly.

“Isn’t that what you and Momma were doing on the floor?”

“Yes, yes, we were having a sleepover!” Chi-Chi cut in before Goku could say anything.  Completely mortified, she dug frantically around for her nightgown.  “That’s very nice of you, sweetie, but now it’s time for you to go back to your room.  I’ll get breakfast ready in a second.”

“’Kay.”  Goten hopped off his father’s lap and started to go.  “Don’t worry, Momma.  Sometimes I like to sleep naked too!”

Another one from the awesome courtneysmovieblog ! Hahaha! I laughed a lot at the end, sweet Goten.

Thank you! <3

The Last Good-Bye

Baba warned him that his time was up, but there was one last good-bye he had to make.

Goku stood in the doorway of the room where they put Chi-Chi.  Despite the commotion of the past hours, she was still in a dead faint.  The shock of losing Gohan had been too much on her.

“Chi-Chi?” He timidly approached the bed, and watched her.  She lay with her arms folded over her breast, stretched out on that bed almost like a corpse in a coffin.  Her shallow breathing was the only sign she was alive.

“Chi-Chi, please wake up,” he said softly, touching her shoulder.  “I have to go now.”

She didn’t move.

A lump rose in his throat.  “It’s gonna be all right.  When this is all over, you can wish Gohan back.  And Goten…Goten really needs you right now.  You can’t—you can’t just give up like this.  You’ve still got Goten.  You’ve still got your dad.  You’ve still got…”

You’ve still got me.  That’s what he meant to say…until he remembered that he was dead.

No.  That didn’t make a difference to him.  Being dead didn’t mean he didn’t love her anymore.  He wanted to be there for her.

If only there was more time…

“I’m still here,” he said urgently.  “I’m not alive anymore, but I’m still here, just for a few seconds.  Please…I don’t wanna go without saying good-bye!”

Nothing.

Looking at that pale, still face, he wondered what she’d say if she did wake up.  She’d probably be mad at him.  All those years of yelling at him for supposedly putting Gohan in danger, and now her worst fears had come true.  Would she blame him for Gohan’s death like Goten had?

An even more troubling thought came to mind.  Maybe…just maybe…that was why she wouldn’t wake up.

Maybe she hated him for what happened.  Maybe she didn’t want to say good-bye because she never wanted to see him again.

 Goku’s heart sank.

He never wanted anything like this to happen. He never would have wasted time fighting Vegeta if he thought Buu would kill Gohan.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered to Chi-Chi.  A lump rose in his throat.  “This is all my fault.”

He knew Baba was waiting.  There was still so much more left to say.  He wanted to tell Chi-Chi how much he missed her in the afterlife.  That he would be waiting for her there, no matter long it took for her to get there…

But she probably didn’t want to wait for him anymore.

He took one last look at her and gently kissed her forehead.  He almost kissed her lips, but stopped himself.  If she was mad at him, he had no right to do that.

“Bye, Chi-Chi.”

He stepped out onto the Lookout, putting on a brave face.  He said good-bye to his friends, hugged Goten, and assured everyone that he knew they’d defeat Buu.

The whole time, he kept glancing at the doors of the temple, hoping that Chi-Chi would run out to hug him at the last minute

She never did.

Unable to stall anymore, Goku sadly left with Baba for Other World.  He was unaware Chi-Chi came to moments later, horrified and heartbroken to realize that she missed her last chance to tell him she still loved him.

Submitted by the lovely courtneysmovieblog ! I enjoyed reading it! A little sad yet really really nice! Thank you!

Kind of thinking about another fic idea. A sort of A/U where Chichi doesn't wake up in time to say goodbye to Goku in the Buu saga. Thoughts?

Avatar

Good one! I've never thought about it. I don't know, a part of me wants to think Goku would wake her up before leaving, but another part of me is like "yeah no, it's not gonna happen"

I'd like to read that!
