A/N: This was super fun to write - I hope the comedic nature is okay with you.
It was hilarious to watch. You were leaning against your bedroom wall near the window, observing. Edward sat perched on your mattress with determination. Across from him, your cat was narrowing its eyes. You couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s not funny, (Y/N).” Edward sulked, never tearing his gaze away from the stare-down. Your cat’s eyes squinted harder. He loathed Edward.
“If it makes you feel any better, he doesn’t exactly worship me, either.” You told him. “He tolerates me at best.”
“He was snuggling with you yesterday. Every time I go near him he hisses or swipes at me.”
“Just give it time. He hates new people.”
“He met Alice yesterday and licked her nose.”
You rolled your eyes. “Edward, relax.”
Edward opened his palm, slowly extending his hand towards your cat’s nose. “He won’t lick me.”
He glared. “Well, do I? Tell me, (Y/N), how do I taste?” With a grin on his face he reached you in vampire speed and spun you around in his arms. His lips found yours and he gave you several quick pecks. You bit his lip, earning a subtle growl out of him. He kissed you again; harder this time, but still gentle.
A disgruntled meow disrupted your activities and turned your attention to a very unimpressed-looking cat.
You opened the front door and threw your schoolbag on the floor in the hallway. It was an exhausting day. Every one of your teachers seemed to have had the bright idea of giving everyone pop quizzes. You didn’t need to see your scores to know you did a terrible job.
The stairs creaked beneath your feet as you made your way to your bedroom for a power nap before studying. The mere thought of how much work you had to do this evening made you want to pass out. Your bedroom door squeaked as you pushed it open, and the doorknob smacked the wall when you slammed it open in surprise.
It was Edward. On the floor. Covered in cat treats.
And your cat was having none of it.
“What the hell?” You didn’t know whether to laugh at him or kick him out so you could get some rest.
“I thought he’d at least take an interest in the treats but I was wrong.” Edward sat up slowly, gently brushing the treats off his body and placing them on the floor beside him. Instantly, your cat dashed over and devoured them. The exasperated look on Edward’s face was priceless. Still, it wasn’t enough to pull you out of the slump you had fallen into during the school day.
“I don’t know,” you sighed. “I just feel like no matter how much I study, I’m still not good enough.” You threw yourself onto your bed and stared up at the ceiling.
“For which subjects?” Edward was by your side in an instant and pulled you to relax against his chest. “I can help you out.”
Edward gently kissed your hair and traced comforting circles on your shoulder. Your cat nuzzled against your arm and perched on your stomach. “Don’t stress over anything, (Y/N), you’ll be able to catch up. I’ll be there with you, okay?”
You nodded your head. “Thank you.”
“Anytime. You know I’ll always support you.”
You pushed the cat off you and walked towards the door. “I’m going to bring my stuff back up here and we’ll get started?”
Edward nodded. You turned through the hall and found your schoolbag downstairs, retrieving it. On your way back up you thought you heard a delighted chuckle. You stopped and listened from behind the wall as the door was still slightly ajar. There was a purring sound.
Looking through the crack between the door and the hinges you could see Edward gently stroking your cat’s head.
“See?” You walked back in and sat beside them both. “I told you it wasn’t a big deal. He just takes time.”
“I’ve always been persistent. He’ll get to where I want him soon.”
“And where may I ask do you want him?”
He smiled. “One day we’ll come back from school and when we walk through the door, he’ll run over and greet me.”
“He’s not a dog, Edward.”
“He’s going to like me more than you.”
“Oh really? We’ll see about that.”
Edward grinned as your cat rolled onto its back, granting him access to its belly. Never had you thought a vampire could be so adorable.
