I encourage all of you out there to check out this show.
It’s incredible that more and more, Broadway shows are streamed or put in cinemas for the mass public legally since not everybody can to go NYC.
And the story of Japanese Internment is more important now than ever before. An exquisite, well filmed production with songs and a story that will haunt you.

I seriously urge everyone who possibly can to go see Allegiance the musical in movie theaters tomorrow.
Even if you’re not a theater person.
Because this is a story everybody needs to hear-especially if you’re American, and especially with everything happening in our country right now.
The Japanese internment camps are an awful part of our history, but it’s one that we can’t ignore, and it’s one that deserves to be told.

A look at costume designer Alejo Vietti’s sketches.
Hannah Campbell (Katie Rose Clarke)
“Stronger Than Before” by Katie Rose Clarke and Lea Salonga from ALLEGIANCE
*Spoilers afoot*
It would have been so easy for the writers to have her be just another ingenue for a subplot, but she is so much more.
Like, she’s a white nurse at a Japanese internment camp, so obviously carries a degree of privilege above most of the other characters. Yet, through her position and relationship with Sammy is forced to come face to face with her ignorance of what was truly happening in the US to Japanese Americans and preconceived notions of a group of people. Yet she is never shamed for her privilege, but she instead learns to be more open minded and defies the orders of her station to help the internees, and ultimately dies doing so.
Long story short Allegiance is such a beautiful, well-written, relevant story that deserved so much better.
i will come back, you’ll see.
If I were with you, our moments would be few But I’d spend each one with you (x)

↳ Inspired by true events, Allegiance is the story of the Kimura family, whose lives are upended when they and 110,000 other Japanese-Americans are forced to leave their homes following the events of Pearl Harbor. Sam Kimura seeks to prove his patriotism by fighting for his country in the war, but his sister, Kei, fiercely protests the government’s treatment of her people. An uplifting testament to the power of the human spirit, Allegiance follows the Kimuras as they fight between duty and defiance, custom and change, family bonds and forbidden loves.
