i’ll keep this short for now because i haven’t had star wars brainrot for a good minute, but it basically comes down to motive.
thrawn: will do anything in his power to save his people, including but not limited to: disobeying direct orders, going against his culture’s military code, and basically sacrificing himself to become an off-the-books sleeper mole in a foreign government to siphon resources off to help his own government with no guarantee he’ll go home
ezra: will do anything in his power to save his people, including but not limited to: disobeying direct orders, going against the goals of rebel high command, and basically sacrificing himself to remove an oppressive military power from his home planet with no guarantee that he’ll go home
in essence, they both love their people. they have different ways of showing that love, and have slightly different relationships with their respective cultures, but i believe that on some level they would understand each other.
i really think it was a massive missed opportunity to explore that, but that’s what fic is for, i suppose!

Final 2022 Calendar Update!
Today we donated the proceeds from sales that occurred over the course of this year! Even better, DigDeep - the parent organization of the Navajo Water Project - is running an event for Giving Tuesday wherein every donation is matched, thanks to the George and Cindy Rusu Family Foundation as well as another anonymous donor.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to every single person who participated in this initiative or supported it in any way. Together we were able to do something wonderful that will have a lasting impact for real people, and that's amazing.

oh DEFINITELY
thrawn already knows his background due to his involvement in the empire obviously, as well as because they’ve just spent months together in wild space. when they arrive, ezra (and thrawn to a lesser extent) have to be HELLA vaccinated to even consider joining chiss society again lol
when eli is teaching him cheunh reading, writing, and speaking, he realizes that ezra’s experience with the former two are severely lacking. he gets the story out of thrawn soon enough, and changes his teaching style to reflect that.
(by the time ezra goes back to Lesser Space, he knows cheunh script better than he ever knew basic, and he has a semi-permanent cheunh accent that shows up a lot in his words. basic also doesn’t come as easy too him at first, but with his family’s help he’ll become just as fluent in basic reading and writing as well. life is a learning process :) )
the sky-walkers definitely know, because he ends up joining a lot of their school lessons. at first he just wanted to hang out with the other force sensitives on the ship, but he soon realized that the lessons with a group ALSO learning was really helpful. they do study groups sometimes too :)
aralani is probably one of the last to learn, much to her chagrin. when ezra was on the bridge doing a navigator shift, she asked him to translate something in basic, only for him to go “??? i don’t read that well???”
she immediately found and kicked thrawns ass

I can completely picture Cheunh has ALOT more words than basic for ultra specific emotions/scenarios like in German.
*Sabine and Ezra halving a chill conversation for the first time in 10+years*
