Honestly Rose and Verona getting along is the straightforward choice, but I could see it going the other way and them getting off on the wrong foot just as easily. This is partially because of their two very different magic systems - Rose's magic is essentially bullshit and she knows it, while Verona is fully invested in working with the Practisce even as she expands its limits. Combine that with Act 5 era Rose's potential to be snarky and even rude running up against Verona's more fragile and realistic 13 year old emotions and they could become enemies in a rivals sort of way.

Which would let you do a reacharound and come at this from a Blackrom angle also.

Had a dream that absurdist memes about Pale became super popular. The text was always out of context stuff starting with "when the", like "When the candle milf exits the ritual through the coin" "When the goblin loses a fight with a cigarette" "When the horror is a sexyman" And it was always overlaid on this image.

A kid I went to middle school with showed me a video that was just a bunch of these. I went "wait a second, I know that possum." I explained what Pale was and he said "oh cool, I'll check it out." And then I woke up. Apparently that was the most unrealistic part of the dream, successfully convincing someone to read Pale.

Space opera setting is going to be filled with furry anthromorph aliens that look similar to fox, cat, deer people etc, and the main protagonist will just be horrifically racist about them.

the Turtle Queen! from wildbow's web serial Pale. she's so cool. i love her so much. super inspired by psychonauts & coraline for this one. really wanted to make it look like a still out of an imaginary stop-motion film

Here's an empty shot of the hallway; I'm really happy with the door:

The room itself is almost all cardboard and construction paper textured/detailed with Posca markers (except for the photo frames). The wallpaper is custom-- if you look closely, you can see it's turtle-patterned.... And here's a neat behind-the-scenes picture. The ceiling lights are small glass bottles with paper inside to diffuse the light. Now, on to the doll herself!

TQ herself is made with sculpey medium blend (still not super technically great with it.. I'm getting there!) and her clothes are largely thrifted fabrics.

The puffer jacket is meant to evoke a turtle shell. Originally, it was supposed to be a diamond pattern, but my sewing machine broke and the deadline for the contest she was for was in two hours...

She stands on her own, but not super reliably. In the future, I'd like to use magnets & make these guys more articulatable-- she's not built for much wear & tear, unfortunately

I feel like the long-term Wildbow fans mostly talk about Worm still to the extent that “Wormblr” is its own entire thing despite the story having ended a decade ago and the fact that it encompasses all of the Wildbow works, so it feels like I have a weird perspective in that I blasted through Worm in just a couple of months entirely archivally, and have now been sitting with Pale for much longer, so much so that it occupies a much larger place in my brain than Worm does.

This feels weird because people will be talking about these bit characters from Worm as points of reference and I will be like, “who is that again”, because I didn’t have time to steep in it like long time fans have, or like I did with, say, Homestuck.

The solution to this is of course to re-read Worm, but I couldn’t really justify that before reading the other WB serials first lol. And I am waiting on Pale to end first (assuming it does so any time soon, I did not expect it to not have ended by now when I started it in the middle of last year lol).

Like, I feel like for most people the main fandom is Worm still and Pale is kinda like the latest descendent of that, but for me it’s more like, “Worm is the thing he wrote before Pale that got him started”, because the latter takes mental precedence at this point.

Can’t wait for “Winter Break”, where Charles will defeat the girls again and they have to embark on another 10-arc comeback act
