Brain twitches

My poetry is like a knee twitch, a sneeze.  It occurs.  It happens.  I couldn’t physically bring myself to stop if I wanted to (excluding decapitation).  I write in my head when I lack materials to record with.  If I forget, I forget, if I remember, and do have something to record with, awesome, I record it.  I’m not consistently concerned with editing / re-working each piece individually before…

Self-aware Poems & Poems About Poetry

“THERE’S A POEM IN THE MIRROR! I SEE IT!”
Poems that know that they’re poems, or critique poetry, seem to have harnessed a bad reputation, a ball-gag that tastes like filth.
I dig them though.  Poems that are passionate and provoke emotion are good poems, at least in my little corner of subjectivity.  I dig writing that employs strong images, and leaves a taste of itself (whether sour, sweet,…

Why Afghan Women Risk Death to Write Poetry

An article by Eliza Griswold covers poets with passion that sizzles out anything I’ve seen prior.  Passion, bravery, activism, these woman are some of the most respectable 21st century poets.

Bad Reviews Come Every Writer's Way, Gatsby's Abandoned Children

Bad reviews are inevitable.  Not everyone is going to enjoy our writing, poetry, movie, whatever creative median we threw ourselves into.
Bad Reviews Come Every Writer’s Way is an article posted at Gatsby’s Abandoned Children last year, but its relevance pushes forth beyond a date.
If you are putting yourself out there, in the public’s eye, in critics’ vision, be prepared.

A cultural rant inspired from The Pennycandystore Beyond EI

First we read the poem, and then follow this with analysis and a cultural rant tinted with love.
The Pennycandystore Beyond The El by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
The pennycandystore beyond the El is where i first fell in love with unreality Jellybeans glowed in the semi-gloom of that September afternoon A cat upon the counter moved among the licorice sticks and tootsie rolls and Oh Boy Gum

Post-rock: ideal music for writing

Music is a force that can move us, emotionally, stimulating our brain, pumping us up or cooling us down.  This can stimulate the part of our brain that farts creativity, and get our pencils moving.
When writing, I love listening to jazz, electronic music, generally anything that is without lyrics.  Though, post-rock music is what I most commonly choose to listen to, for its a genre full of…
