i wanted to go full ham on the dress and googled and referenced all the princess portrait paintings i could find.

but ey, all that princess and knight imagery present in the show! and all the utena references! i had a lot of thoughts about steven putting himself into a tower to save everyone else from getting hurt by his monstrous side and turns out, connie is determined to protect or save him but it’s not really healthy for either of them. or something. using tropes to point out unhealthy narratives, yay?

Garnet’s heart trip-hammered against her ribcage, and Pearl’s long fingers were loose against her flushed cheeks, but she didn’t dare nod lest she dislodge her.

But she didn’t need her visor to take a guess at where this was going, and despite having no way to try to steer the conversation toward any of the futures she yearned for, the fusion felt a smile tug at at corners of her lips. Pearl had approximately two strategies when it came to handling virtually any situation; total avoidance or rushing headlong and improvising. Plopping down in her best friend’s lap from the ramparts was definitely the latter.

“Pearl, you’re straddling my lap. There isn’t much room for anything,” Garnet managed to say, privately relieved and somehow proud that her voice was steady, even as she had to curl a hand around Pearl’s shoulder to keep her upright. Still, in the early hours before sunrise, with their current base casting the last shadows of a long night into the hedge garden, Pearl’s alabaster cheeks darkened to a lovely teal that Garnet rarely had the opportunity to appreciate at close quarters.

It wasn’t the right time to tease, Garnet realized, feeling Pearl’s shoulders tense as she faltered. She was careful to push a lock of dew-damp peach hair away from her burning cheeks. “But you have my full attention. Go ahead.”

Didn’t quite finish yesterday on Twitch, but I thought I’d share my drabble! If I’m lucky I’ll get the lines cleaned up so I can go straight to coloring on Twitch later today or tomorrow.
