“So that’s it.” His tone is even—neutral, almost unbearably so. Residual heat from the coffee container bleeds into Miles’ open palms. Thinking it better to feign calm, he brings the cup to his lips and sips. “You’re in love with somebody, huh?” What little of the steaming liquid had flooded in veers sharply from his windpipe and into his esophagus; eyes wide with mortification, he whips his head in Wright’s direction. “Must you always jump to conclusions?” he sputters. “It’s nothing of the sort!” Wright, for his part, is deathly blank in the face of Miles’ objection. Save for the way he slowly hunches over, shoulders curling in to hide his eyes, he shows no signs of having been affected by his outburst. “It’s alright”—he brings a hand to his nose bridge, pinching lightly—“don’t worry.” Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright, and a cup of coffee to mask unnecessary feelings.
i am a 7-year-gap angst fiend. i eat it up and pump it out like a madman. wish i could say more but the fact is i have two more similarly-themed fics incoming, and i can’t bring myself to be sorry about it

idk i just get teary eyed when i see that old trend where someone brags about their s/o’s profession no matter what it is. Especially professions that don’t get a lot of love ok i’m done being sappy

My guy is a performer at heart and it’s so apparent in everything he does
Bluffing? THATS IMPROV BABY! Thats a core part of acting! Learning to think on your toes and improvise when a scene doesn’t go well to get everything back on track is what Phoenix excels at!
Playing a character for 7 years takes fortitude and a mind to remember what to not say or not do to make everyone believe you ARE that character. Beanix was a performance!
Phoenix also does certain things to perform how a murder was committed like how he literally jumps through hoops in the dreaded clown case.
Hell, there’s even the part that i don’t hear a lot of how phoenix takes insults or criticism in stride, how he just goes “oh yeah, my bad i was wrong about that haha!” THATS ALSO TAUGHT IN PERFORMING ARTS!!! (He’s also just a humble down to earth guy so i mean.)
And if you wanna look deeper into his character, everything he does is a performance. Performing huge feats just to show how much he cares for his friends and family, even if he can’t say it in words.
It’s like never touched upon but he really managed to combine two of his conflicting interests and bring a whole new genre of law into japanifornia just by combining performing arts and law, and people are ASTOUNDED by his invention and think this method is genius, when in reality he’s shaking in his shoes bc he forgot his lines and has been improving the scene for the last 45 minutes!

Phoenix was really mean to Miles, but given what he lived throughout one year and the fact he knows nothing about what happened to Miles during this year (who won't help him at all to know more), a punch would have been totally logical.
He didn't because they were in a f*cking police station, little (already scared and traumatized) Pearl was there and because otherwise, Miles (maybe) wouldn't have helped Phoenix (so Engarde would have walked out free or Maya would have been killed), and certainly Franziska and more certainly Gumshoe would have physically destroyed Phoenix (that gave me some fic ideas btw) and definitely would NOT have been helped him.
So narratively speaking, a punch would have been a bad idea.
Still, if Ace Attorney was a multiple choice game, I'd have liked to see the bad ending due to that. Or what we have to do to still get Miles', Franziska's and Gumshoe's help.
But... it would have inevitably led to a drearier mood that's usually not proper to Ace Attorney.
Despite that fact the stories of that game mostly are grim and dreadful (that's why I love the 2012 movie, it reminds you that yes, the stories of your funny and light-spirited game actually are not).

Also yes edgeworth went through a lot. which explains his behavior not excusing it. A punch would have been a bad idea but imo phoenix was way too nice and forgiving as he always is to edgeworth.
Whether he figured out what the note meant or not, and whether edgeworth really meant it and changed his mind or meant it as a metaphor, he still chose to let everyone believe he was dead for well over a year. No contact, no heads up, no nothing.
And he was well within his rights to do so!
Just as phoenix is well within his rights to be PISSED TO ALL HELL AND BACK at him for doing that.
To top it all off, Franziska and Phoenix both blamed phoenix for it happening. To find out the months of blame and guilt were for nothing WOULD PISS ME OFF TOO!

Let's say Phoenix is just more decent than a certain old ex-prosecutor. Also, punching someone in front of a little girl who's already scared... yeah no.
What's that police station with no guard and no security? This is really a dystopian world!
I totally agree about Phoenix and Franziska. I'm sure she went all feral on Miles off-screen when he carried her to the hospital. "Luckily" for Miles, Phoenix was too busy with his case and saving Maya to even think about that.
So true so true.
And the biggest takeaway here: the police suck at their jobs in ace attorney!
