If you have not watched Will & Harper, you really should. It's an incredibly sweet movie, and he starts out doing a pretty good job of being a good friend to Harper, but somehow he gets better. (You will cry tho, like, guaranteed, but in a good way. There is one scene of Harper getting a LOT of negative attention though so trans ppl please have some decompression space afterwards if that would be upsetting for you.)
i read the cutest reddit thread today where this 19 yo boy was “babysitting” his 15 yo little sister while his parents were away on vacation and she got this horrific period and needed to be taken to the ER.
and this sweet 19 yo boy was doing all he could to take care of her, giving her meds and water and then packing stuff up to go to the hospital once reddit was like “yeah if she’s soaking two tampons in an hour you should go” - but being only a little older than a child himself, he didn’t know what to pack, so he brought like three things, and one of them was SUNSCREEN.
lmao everyone on reddit was like “you’re a really good brother but sunscreen?? for the hospital??” lmao they are roasting him. also op’s sister changed his name in her phone to “spf” and their dad calls him “bananaboat” now. this guy is never living this down
(also his sister is ok and it turns out their family has some kind of genetic blood disorder)
the brother kind of reminds me of that post that’s been going around abt that abandoned five-week-old kitten that was taking care of a few two-week-old kittens that were somehow with him and he was just trying his best but he was so small

sorry i don't mean to be pretentious It Is Known i love to rotate a blorbo as much as the next girlblogger but the thing is i grew up reading shit like arthur c. clarke and historical fantasy and latin american magical realism so to me the candy of characters was earned through the vegetables of plot (which i also really enjoyed. i remember crying a lot at the cosmic beauty of the end of 2001 space odyssey and till today my favorite writer is still julio cortázar) and then i read twilight when i was like 13 and i remember going "whoag this is all about the characters... is that allowed?!?!?" and i think that severely stunted what up until then had been an intellectually edifying reading habit. and imo that's why a lot of YA and booktok type stuff is looked down upon... there's a kind of genre novel where the plot is this pesky half assed thing that the writer has to drag their feet through to get to write about their OCs and you know it when you see it

Hey guys... I met my wife through NaNoWriMo, I am as attached to the concept as a person could be, but if we're going to recreate it... I'm begging you to not put it in November. November is possibly the worst month for it if you live in the US. In school? You're probably studying for finals toward the end of that month. Adult? Some part of your family is going to want you to come visit them, which is a whole thing if you have to travel to see them.
We can break free of this. We can have a whole new novel writing month. I'm begging you. Even as someone whose life partner came to me through NaNoWriMo. Do not put this fucking month in November.

march: no other holidays. yucky outside. i don't remember if it's near midterms? seasonal depression is an issue but having a constructive routine might actually help with that.
july: too hot to go outside, but few people are in school. beats getting sucked into whatever the latest stupid online teenage summer crusade is.
