Anonymous asked:

a lot of time media depicts hypnotic suggestion as something that can occur while someone is asleep. Is there any basis to this in actuality? Or is it just another misunderstanding shows and such propogate

It is a misunderstanding, just like people who attempt to listen to subliminals and affirmations while asleep and other such things. You cannot receive hypnotic suggestions to any degree of efficacy or reliability. Any slightly possible effects would be pitifully minor and unnoticeable. Any personal observations of it would be the result of self-suggestion of the idea of it working.

Thank you for asking.

its kinda funny thinking about how hypnosis is fairly close structurally to some lost form of magic in some fictional world.

its a thing that does exist, but has been buried in centuries of misinformation, dramatization, and fantasy, and has had its power relegated to a party trick. people think that stuff like stage hypnosis isnt real at all, or just peer pressure, or some concoction of rationalizations to explain it all away.

you almost need to just start exploring it yourself, to experiment and note down and build your intuitive knowledge to become more skilled at the art. things arent easily scientifically pinned down, muddied and made emissive by the inconsistencies of our perception and its damping or amplifying effects.

it's as close to a soft magic as there is still remaining in our world, one that by design resists this ever encroaching idea that everything is boringly knowable and that life is without a beauty that cannot be replicated over and over again in a lab.

hypnosis and its functions are rooted at the very core of our minds, of humans and humanity, and it's cast aside conceptually like a tome in an old library, containing some fascinating secrets of the world.

it's neat is i guess what my point is.

Most hypnotists really undervalue focus suggestions.

Focus is the entire point. Hypnosis is the process of guiding someone's focus, hence guiding their perception, and by doing so, guiding their sense of reality. Some people don't even do any, and some do a few then forget about it the entire rest of the trance.

You first grab territory over all of their focus, their sense of reality, and then you put it to use (note: there is nuance to this and you don't need to follow any structure for trance, but this is a general principle that you learn how to effectively break with experience and understanding).

Relaxation is not even necessary for trance, but is necessary for practical purposes. You are essentially using relaxation to free up more focus to allocate to you. That's to say, if you don't actually grab that newly allocated focus, you're not really utilizing anything. At most, the spectacle of the relaxation effects would make them feel more susceptible, which may help, but you're leaving so much on the table.

Your induction's primary goal should be to grab as much focus as you can. If you have all of their focus, dropping them is insanely easy and very quick to do.

Even in the future, I've found that if you do just one insanely strong focus-centric session, that person can be suggested while awake pretty decently. I often just set up triggers on friends without inductions and they work more than fine so long as you account for it being a touch weaker than if it was installed in trance.

The secret is that they are in trance, immediately so, whenever I wish. They're trained to have their focus be drawn to me the moment I want it.

This is all to say, hypnosis is focus and suggestion. If you don't focus on focus, you are missing half the picture.

You know what's fun?

Inescapable triggers.

Every breath you take makes you feel sleepier and lazier.

Every time you see your reflection you grope yourself.

Every time you hear your name you call yourself a slave in your mind.

Watching as your subject can't help but brainwash themselves more and more just by existing.

Feel free to add some suggestions.

One I did recently was a variation on the bubble visual.

I suggested the idea that their focus itself, after enough focus suggestions, become so sharp that it started to pop bubbles just by focusing on them. Any time any thought at all came into focus, it just went pop!

I really love "molding" focus into shapes as a visual, and this is a new one that popped into my head on the spot! ^v^

This may not be a new observation for people familiar with hypnosis and trauma, but has anyone noticed how hypnosis seems to work on very similar mechanisms as trauma does?

I was already deeply familiar with trauma academically and personally when I recently started researching hypnosis, and the similarities are making me understand more about how trauma triggers form.

Both hypnosis that induces hypnotic triggers and trauma triggers cause you to associate something with another thing on a deep, subconscious level. Obviously associations can occur in other ways, but only in trauma and hypnosis have I seen such a deep correlation where a single phrase can cause someone to very reflexively perform an action or experience strong emotions.

Additionally, both trauma and hypnosis can induce a dissociative barrier between the trigger and conscious awareness. I read this post on amnesia play for hypnosis kink and I was just struck by like. Holy shit. That is what it feels like when I find an alter with trauma memories I am not supposed to know, and for a second I can remember everything and as I am starting to react emotionally suddenly it all starts to slip away until it feels blank and blurry and I have no idea what it was even though I knew it just a second ago. (Which is why I think to have a full understanding of hypnosis you cannot just look at therapeutic use because I do not think in therapy a memory barrier would be induced like this.)

And it makes sense, right? Like a brain is a brain, its going to have the same structure and mechanisms even in different contexts so it makes sense that it's not that different but I was still quite shocked by it.

And the thing it is making me realize about how trauma forms has to do with what hypnosis is and how it works.

At its core (at least this is what I have read, in several places, though it is a theory and not confirmed, which is fair it is hard to confirm for certain anything about how the mind works due to the nature of it) hypnosis is a heightened state of focus. Generally during hypnosis you are focused and relaxed, and the relaxation is how you can clear your mind enough to focus only on the hypnotists words and the feelings they make you feel.

This made me realize that trauma formation occurs during intense focus as well. The focus is based on fear; one needs to be highly focused on what is going on in a survival situation or a situation where they are being hurt in order to best navigate the situation and get out as quickly as possible, and because that is a High Priority all of the brain is focused on it.

I believe this heightened state of focus in trauma accesses a similar part of the mind that hypnosis does, albeit through violent and unpleasant means, and this is why things that occur during trauma formation can trigger these feelings that were felt during trauma formation to come back.

This is just my personal observations do not take this as academic truth but I am very interested in studying these similarities. If anyone knows any academic papers on this or personal experiences people have written on this topic I would be very interested in reading them.

I will be researching it but of course looking up hypnosis and trauma brings up mainly how hypnosis can be used to treat trauma (which is relevant to the topic still) and it will be hard to find something talking about specifically how hypnosis can sort of mimic trauma on a mechanical level.

(tw: violence)

Mm. This is a good example of how hypnosis is not separate from other mind functions, but at the core of psychology itself. It's way to interface directly with it.

Every single function of hypnosis is a function that is more commonly used elsewhere, and constantly.

Focus manipulation and hyperfocus are used in immersion, meditation, daydreaming, and even in just living day to day. Focus is the two-tiered conscious and subconscious threshold that decides what stimuli is let in and what is thrown away. Hypnosis merely exploits that intentionally.

Suggestions are literally just any idea or concept that changes your perception. That's it. A movie review suggests you, small talk with a friend suggests you, compliments and insults suggest you. Even without communicated terms, every sensory input that alters your perception is technically a suggestion. Hypnosis merely exploits that intentionally.

Triggers are a stimulus that causes recall of some type of memory. It's a conditional, A causes B. Seeing your toothbrush triggers you to brush your teeth, seeing old pictures with a friend triggers episodic memories of your experiences with them, seeing a specific color combination might trigger memories of your school's colors or a brand or your favorite shirt. A certain sense or idea might trigger traumatic memories. Hypnosis merely exploits that intentionally.

Like my friend here accurately described, hypnosis can be like surgery, but it can also be a tool in general to explore psychological concepts, it's the main reason I got fascinated with it. It's almost like an interface to the mind, and allows you to learn more about how our minds in general work, so long as you have the curiosity and caution to do it well and safely.

Also, if you want another cool hypnosis blog, I suggest following Vox. They're learning and have very interesting ideas. Say hi to them for me ^v^

I've found that, while it might be a bit of a dark idea, the subjects most conducive to specific hypnotic effects are those whose brains have already exercised that muscle, which does not exclude trauma.

A lot of my most susceptible subjects have DID in some form or another, which seems to deal with many of the relevant brain functions for especially strong or extreme hypnotic effects.

been thinking today about an invisible hypnotic crank.

any time you and your subject are hanging out, you can go, "Attention!" and snap your fingers, and your subject automatically snaps to your finger that's now pointing upwards

and then, you just...

spin it around,

and around,

and see your subject's head start to lower,

shoulders relax,

just barely keeping themselves from falling over, only so they can keep looking at the tip of your finger.

and once you stop pointing, you can just move close to them, slowly, and...

Boop!

and their body goes limp into your arms, mind entirely dedicated to making your words their reality.

one of my favorite things to do over discord calls is have a friend play a game and mess with them hypnotically as they do it. one of the more recent ideas I got from a twitter post, making some of my subjects put their hands up and tilt their head automatically when I say, "paws", waiting for their reward once they do.

one of them was playing dark souls 1, and I got them killed multiple times messing with that one and the visual of an on/off switch.

casual hypnosis is really fun! ^v^

imagining hypnosis in an anthromorphic dog world:

installing a trigger that makes it so holding their tail makes them freeze in place

using their big nose as an off button and booping it

seeing their ears progressively droop lower and lower during an induction

stage hypnotists making them meow like a cat for a gag

tying hypnotic suggestions to collars to keep someone stuck under for as long as the hypnotist wants

the fun thing is that most of these are possible in the real world too :3

A tip for hypnotic subjects with overactive minds: Don't just try to get rid of that inner voice, use it actively.

I tried this idea out the last time I listened to a file, and it helped a lot.

Due to being a hypnotist, there had already been times where I had suggested things to myself while someone else was putting me under to supplement and give them ideas, but it's something you can do yourself.

If the file doesn't give you a mantra, make one for yourself and use it to fill the empty gaps in your head. Barks work too. Imagine that it's eating up your straggling thoughts, or dragging them in like a magnet.

Actively echo the words they're saying again to yourself, essentially forcing yourself to focus harder.

If you have pre-installed triggers, pepper your thoughts with any that come to mind.

Suggest to yourself that you're giving them your control, that your thoughts are popping, even adjust their suggestions in a way you know works better for you.

Files, by design, must be generalized, but this extra room in your mind, if you cannot get rid of it yourself, can instead be used to add personalized detail to an otherwise nonspecific and nontailored trance. Maybe it'll work better for you, maybe not. It did for me.

Good luck!

New Hypnosis File: Mind Plush (Anti-Anxiety Trance)

This is a recording done in my discord server, recorded to be used publically after the fact as well. Think of it like a comedy special, but... not that. This is a SFW trance designed to make you comfy and relieve anxiety, centered around plushies.

It will require that you have a plush or stuffed animal, hopefully your favorite one, one that will be hypnotically enhanced to relieve anxiety better from now on.

We will also be crafting a version of this plushy in your head so that even when you're away from your plush, you can squeeze it in your mind and feel yourself get comfy and stable.

it's quite fun to train general obedience ^v^

i've interlaced so many little phrases I use all the time with hypnotic suggestions with my subjects, to the point where all I need to do is tell them to focus on me and suddenly they want to obey anything I tell them to. i have no idea if they know all the little things ive trained them to, but the best part is that it works regardless.

i've even been able to start abandoning those secret little phrases entirely with many of my pups, them associating obedience so positively with me that they just do what I ask because I'm the one asking. i still let them be rebellious sometimes though. whats the fun if you can't actively watch their will slip away the moment you want it to?

as i've discussed with one of my new subjects/pups, the best way to train continuous obedience in the long term is to establish reward triggers and establish that they can happen at any random time that they're obedient. variability of timing and frequency is important, so they don't anticipate when you're going to do it and only start being obedient then.

all it takes is some phrase like

Good Puppy,

and over time, you'll find your pet or subject finding it unreasonable to even think about disobeying you.

And, of course, the golden rule of training anything: repetition, repetition, repetition. When it comes to triggers or suggestions of any kind, you want to embed it as deeply into the mind as you can reasonably manage.

That all being said, have fun, and happy hypnotizing.

A lot of trance is focused on relaxing the subject, but sometimes it's fun to do the opposite.

I make my Wake Up triggers not just a signifier to become fully awake, but specifically phrasing it as a "burst of energy". That way, when I wake them up, I can snap an extra couple of times to make them get overenergized and freak out a little.

On the rare times I intentionally do fractionation (note: I'm generally unconvinced that fractionation is a technique worth even defining with a word and primarily functions through the spectacle of feeling like you're going deeper due to waking up first while not actually doing so nearly as much as either the subject or hypnotist thinks), I do a rhythm of slowly dropping and immersing someone in a visual or just my influence, and then start snapping and saying "wake up" over and over to disorient them with how quick it is. I kinda enjoy giving people hypnotic bedhead to an extent.

You can even use this to help people out and not just fuck with them.

Often times, when I know that someone needs help focusing on a task, I use Focus triggers while not relaxing or dropping them, and then suggesting that their focus is like a sticky hand (pictured below), and that they can fling it to whatever they want to.

Like most things in hypnosis, this idea is dynamic and has a lot of uses, far more than what I had to say here. Something to consider.

Have fun!

Hypnosis File Recommendations!

I've been gently motivated to start listening to and re-finding old hypnosis files again due to the reception to the previous post. I've been surprised at the amount of actually decent files I've come to remember, but still struggle to find many files that really blow me away. As I've said before, though, I'm a very stubborn owl.

That all being said, here are more files for your consideration.

Read all descriptions and warnings before engaging with these files. Do not engage with anything here or anything in my blog if you are under 18.

--------------------------------------------------------

This is a ren.py game about being being a test subject for the eccentric Dr. Voidritch and his hypnotic experiments. It's rather silly and fun, while still having real hypnosis, and fairly competently done hypnosis at that. It's best to download it instead of running on browser.

There is also a sequel to this game called Lavender Labs, though I have not tried it. It seems a lot more like a slice of life thing with dating and hypnosis from the screenshots though.

The rest of these recommendations for today will be about one person, Dragontize.

I rediscovered her shortly after the last recommendation post, and was pleasantly surprised. The best way to describe her overall vibe is "deceptively cute".

She opens every file with the same endearing tagline, "Hello world, I'm Dragontize, I messssmerize with voice and eyes." Her voice is light and enjoyable, the intonation the type to make the edges of your mind feel like they're oozing with pleasant sensations in a minute or two of talking.

Her files are much more directly practical and hypnosis-centric than most, with even her fantastical story-based files keeping a good balance. This is all to say that at a minimum, you will enjoy yourself with these files, even if they may not blow you away.

This is how I re-found Dragontize, the actual original file with Evil Fractionation I found! I couldn't locate it for a long time, and realized that the issue was DuckDuckGo being a kinda bad search engine when it comes to specific things.

While I'm working on an Evil Fractionation file myself, this one is a nice and casual overview of it.

A very straightforward and enjoyable fractionation file with the light theming of becoming a member of Dragontize Inc.

This is maybe her best file. It does an interesting sort of thing where the file functions as if you're in the room with her, signaling multiple times that she has moved in some way, but without actually seeing her at all. It doesn't overly describe what she is doing, it's a very naturalistic sort of script in contrast to the often overdetailed storybook manner that others do.

It also very effectively plays with the concepts of anticipation and focus. It demonstrates a better understanding of the psychological aspects of hypnosis than a lot of others.

Good Little Thief by Dragontize

Lastly, a light and fun fantasy session. It's about a thief that is tasked to steal something from a wizard. That's all I'll say.

I've been enjoying going through files even if I don't find many of them super effective. I hope you all will be able to enjoy them even more than I have.

one of my favorite things to do with memory play is giving the subject's memory back.

i use a visual of fog covering the part of their memory where the trance is, and so, i like to clear it by taking a deep breath and just blowing it all away, with the subject breathing in sync with me.

suddenly, they can easily remember everything. all the triggers I implanted, all the sounds I made them make, all the barks they did for me, all the mindless little behaviors when they couldn't tell what was happening, when the trance started, how they even got here.

and then, i just point out that...

the fog is coming back down.

covering their thoughts again.

and watching them struggle to remember anything at all.
