Related: you can buy 4’33” on iTunes.
Breath is a play by Samuel Beckett.
why anyone would sit and listen to 4'33" anywhere but in a concert hall with a shitload of people is beyond me. It's performance art. If you're by yourself, there's no performance, is there?
Idk.
Not that fond of the piece anyway lol.
Rise and Fall of the city of Mahagonny (by FuradelsBaus)
So apparently the innovative group La Fura dels Baus did a production of the new English translation [with Spanish choruses, from what I reead] of Brecht and Weill's opera Aufsteig und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny
I want a DVD of their work so badly. They do amazing stuff. I really think they've got the key to the future of opera and theatre. It's avant garde but it's understandable avant garde.
For instance, with Mahagonny they set it in a wasteland populated by formless, almost inhuman figures, while the opera itself is a commentary on the evils of capitalism. Their massive, technological setting of Wagner's Ring cycle included vast movie screens and Loki on a moped. Their recent production of the near-unperformable Sonntag aus Licht in Germany was... incomprehensible, much like the music, but it worked.
Sorry if I'm ranting and off topic, but this group excites me :3 it's something new and, I think, special.
