Listen Daniel’s involvement with the Stargate program makes total sense but also it’s so funny to think about him being part of a field team. Like “hi we’re SG-1, arguably the most famous warriors in the galaxy. Our team consists of a war vet, an Air Force captain, a high ranking rebel of the people we’re fighting, oh and also we gave this archaeologist a gun.

When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.

So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".

So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.

I think you should be allowed onto the Wild Life SMP for the express purpose to kill your boss.

As a treat.

EXACTLY. I've been saying this for weeks! Grian needs to make a wild card where I can be released onto the server so I can:

1. Kill Martyn 2. Give Ren 1 billion lives 3. Give Skizzleman a kiss on the forehead and tell him to kill kill murder and kill

Mandalorians have a system wide Tiingilaar competition, and it'd the only time you can get so many of them in one place without politics causing brawls

of course there are still the brawls and blood fueds caused by dissing clan recipes, and there's always a few attempts at seducing recipes out of people

the stew vs casserole debate is the equivalent to beans or no beans in chili

the prize is a solid beskar spoon, and bragging rights

Oh fuck yes!

Nobody knows where the original recipe came from! Was it a Taung recipe? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ was it a recipe from any of the number of species the Taung folded into their culture? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Doesn't matter.

There are basic criteria for tiingilar: spice, protein, root vegetables, vegetable paste, and some kind of carbohydrate. It needs to be thick and filling. How is it assembled varies by clan and region (sometimes even House, some varieties lean more towards a soup! How scandalous). Even if the clans are within the same sector the tiingilar can vary.

Clan members will swear that one member knows how to make the perfect tiingilar. The recipes are never written down (to prevent stealing) and are told orally. Depending on how close the clan/House is, members marrying into a new clan will be told their clan's recipe (this will often lead to a hybridization of the two recipes and create a third new recipe that will be handed down). Sometimes they will not be told.

Each clan has their own spice mixture, which is a closely guarded secret.

Winners of the Spoon will also have a spoon sigil added to their pauldron to denote their victory.

Six standard months after the tiingilar festival is the uj cake festival. Which is taken just as seriously and has just as many varied recipes as tiingilar. Again, nobody knows the first recipe (all claim to have altered their recipe from the coveted/mythical First Recipe). But again standard criteria apply: uj'ayl syrup, 2:3 nut to fruit ratio, and a warming root (I imagine shig to be space ginger). How is it assembled varies. Some are more cakey and need to be eaten within a week. Some are much hardier and can last up to six months!

The winner will also receive a solid beskar spoon. Which is just as coveted as the spoon for the tiingilar contest. Earning both spoons is a mighty feat indeed!

WHO WANTS TO HEAR MY THEORIES ON WHAT'S REALLY IN TIINGILAR? Nobody? Too bad. Let's break down the word!

Tiin (From tiin'la): rough, coarse. Now tiin'la is obviously an adjective, and its root would be tiin; the problem with this is that there isn't a noun version that makes sense. Coarseness? Rough? Logically we then have to assume that it derives from a verb — let's say tiinar for ease, and I'm going to assume it refers to roughening something up since its description is "blisteringly spicy" — so I assume it means (in this context) roughening up one's tongue.

Gi: this means fish. It is unequivocally, undeniably fish. It's right there in the dictionary. Gi is fish. I am a tiingilar fish casserole truther, go ahead and spread my ashes on this hill because I'm long dead.

Lar: See this is the tricky part. Lar doesn't have a definition, but it's a common ending for verbs (all verbs end with an r). So let's search for the nearest words! I see 3 options; we have olar, adjective, 'here' ; aalar, verb, 'to feel' ; galar, verb, 'to pour.' Out of these three I feel like galar is the most likely option because it's a casserole, by definition you just dump that shit into a dish and shove it in the oven (I'm midwestern which makes me a casserole expert shut up). Since Mando'a is an incredibly efficient language and they like to mush words together, I can very easily see that after years and years, they just started skipping the 'ga' — as an example, the scottish cookie shortbread is a compound word that originally referred to a dish that was made with shortening and leftover bread. It evolved over time (and got sweeter) and now we have shortbread. Maybe 17 generations ago it was tiingigalar.

So, what does this all mean? (To me, at least lmao) Tiingilar is a spicy fish casserole that you pour into a dish and bake! Thus I would suggest that tiingilar cookoffs actually start with a fishing competition. The more fierce the fish, the better, because you want it to bite you back. Old school purists will only make it with shark meat because they insist tiin'la is actually referring to sharkskin. Kal Skirata hated Kamino with a passion, but he made tiingilar with an aiwha Ordo shot during target practice once and he's still chasing that high.

answering this ask for @lunarcrown to give some more insight abt the story side of things!

the way i create hels players typically stems from one or two ‘defining traits’ taken from their counterparts, like very strong personality traits or characteristics. these traits then undergo two routes: amplified or twisted.

amplifying a trait is like taking something more morally ‘good/neutral’ and cranking it up to eleven. for example: instinct has impulse’s good work ethic amplified into absolute hyper-efficiency. this leads him to use and discard people as he sees fit, manipulate and cut corners, and overwork himself and others to dangerous extremes.

twisting a trait is like taking something morally ‘good/neutral’ and putting a darker spin on it. for example, impulse’s friendliness has been twisted to insincerity in instinct, that ‘fake-ness’ of someone who smiles to your face and then stabs you in the back. if his friendliness was amplified instead, it would result in an outgoing overly zealous pinkie-pie type of character who gets way too involved but ultimately means well.

so that’s the difference between amplifying and twisting. ofc, not all defining traits start out as morally good/neutral, because not all overworld players are good.

now, tango’s traits are rage (amplified from bravo’s short temper) and sadism (twisted from bravo’s superiority complex). ofc, as we saw in the fic, bravo became capable of committing atrocities and even displayed some sadistic qualities himself after spending time in hels so there’s definitely nothing set in stone. these are dynamic characters that grow and change over time, for better or for worse. and environment influences that a LOT. we didn’t get to see much of tango pre-hermitcraft in HTP but rest assured, he used to be way more destructive. he attacked atlas on sight the first time they met, and spent his days setting deadly traps for no other reason than wanting to watch strangers die.

timmy’s major trait is his utter helplessness, an amplified extreme of the way jimmy will play more passively or take the role of victim (or the butt of the joke) in certain scenarios. it basically overwhelms any other traits that would manifest in timmy, but ultimately, he didn’t inherit anything that would’ve made him destructive or violent. there just wasn’t anything from jimmy that manifested that way.

that can be true for many players. now this isn’t to say that jimmy is inherently more ‘good’ than any of the other hermits/lifers whose hels were more violent or destructive. the worse an overworld counterpart is, the worse their hels tends to be, but there are always exceptions to this rule. and some counterparts may even be on equal moral footing (as we saw, not all overworld players are good, and can have hels who are better people than them). it all comes down to which traits were transferred to the hels, and whether they were amplified or twisted. it’s… almost like genetics, in a way. there are so many traits that make up a player but a hels really only builds off one or two, and it’s random chance which ones it’ll be.

(random chance in-universe, ofc. irl, i pick the traits that seem the most fun to build a hels out of hehe)

hopefully that explains things a bit better 💃

TRANSCRIPT:

Tommy: —Vowed never to be horrible to Dream again.

Phil: (snorts)

Tommy: I have it in my diary somewhere.

Jack: Really?

Tommy: Says “never be horrible to Dream, it’s not worth it—

Phil: [crosstalk] Dude.

Tommy: —it hurts my— Makes me too sad.”

Phil: [crosstalk] It’s not worth—

Jack: [crosstalk] It’s not worth it how upset he gets.

Phil: (laughs)

Tommy: I did, I wrote that! As a sixteen year old! It’s in my diary, I could find it.

Phil: [crosstalk] That’s wild. That’s wild.

Jack: [crosstalk] That’s so fucked, man.

Tommy: What?

Phil: Dude, that had such an effect on you.

Jack: ‘Cause you took it as being your fault, like him being a fucking crybaby—

Tommy: [crosstalk] Yeah, it— it’s—

Jack: and like throwing it around your way and saying it’s your fault and you should never aggravate [crosstalk] him again? That’s fucked!

Tommy: It’s weird being a twenty year old man, the age of lots of these people, and going “Oh, I would never speak to a sixteen year old—“

Jack: [interrupting] Yeah, imagine like a child came up to you, like made a little joke and you were like, “I made you. Look at all these numbers! Here is where I got involved!” Like what a prick, man!

Tommy: It is, like— Yeah. It is weird.

Jack: I hate him. No, I seriously hate him.

Tommy: (laughs)

Jack: I’ll just say it, I fucking hate the guy.

I was skimming through an old Lucas interview about TPM, when I stumbled upon this little nugget of gold:

“At one point, when Obi-Wan kills Darth Maul, he just fell in the pit. I looked at it and thought this isn’t going to work because, if people like him enough, they’re going to want him to come back and they’re going to assume somehow he gets out of it. So I had to cut him in half to say that this guy’s gone, he’s history, he ain’t coming back” - George Lucas

At least you tried your best, George. At least you tried your best 😂 😂 😂

The ICING ON THE CAKE here is that Dave Filoni has said in multiple interviews that he thought this was was an absolutely brilliant move by Lucas. And then one day, during production on The Clone Wars, Lucas walks up to Filoni, says “We’re bringing Maul back.”

Filoni’s like, “George. How. You cut him in half.”

Lucas replies, “You get to figure that out.” and walks away.

Dark Star Wars Tumblr, tell me about mandalorians and the erasure of their original culture because I saw someone dragging duchess kryze over her political positioning and I am hella confused now

hey hey, I saw this as a recommended post on my dash B’) and I actually have an incredibly long explanation over here, as well as a tag for new mandalorians

the short explanation is that before TCW, mandalorians in Legends were an incredibly multi-cultural society with members from all walks of life. when TCW aired they white-washed mandalorians to all look like a specific, narrow type of white (pale, blond, blue-eyed) while also explicitly proclaiming as canon that they only, at the time, previously existing mandalorians were actually not mandalorian … and the only canon mandalorians that existed, at the time, were also not white (Jango Fett, Boba Fett).

so the show with minor explanation took what was a multi-cultural society, imposed a monarchy-esque government with a white duchess who explicitly exiled a huge chunk of the population, and had the white representatives of that government also go out of his way to proclaim the nonwhite was-canon Fetts as no longer mandalorian because they said so / were essentially grouped together with the other criminals / impostors who also weren’t recognized mandalorian (Death Watch).

so to sum up, multi-cultural society was white-washed, homogenized, had the in-universe mandalorian government reps proclaim nonwhite pre-existing canon mandos as not really mando, and provided (perhaps unintentionally) in-universe context to explain extrapolate that design and writing decision

With everyone on social media going absolutely feral today, may I ask what your hopes and predictions are for the upcoming season of the Life Series? :3

Most of my wants are Tango and/or Lizzie team ups. All I can hope for is that neither end up teamed with Bdubs. But also:

I want them to build bases right next to each other and still spend the whole game on opposite ends of the map.

Life series! Mumbo is a tragic character but mostly in the sense that you’re like “it’s tragic that the car crash that is Mumbo Jumbo didn’t last longer because no one does a death games as bad as him” and also Grian is Like That with Mumbo so

From Grian’s pov Mumbo is a tragic character, from Mumbo’s pov Mumbo is a clown car that produces nervous laughter and cringefail killings

Personally I think that Mumbo would describe himself as a cis man but I also think he has a completely incomprehensible sense of what gender actually is ala the warden Cleo limlife comic

You ask Mumbo what being a man means and he’ll tell you it means grooming your facial hair if you have any, having moderate to severe hay fever, and wearing fuzzy socks on Wednesdays
