‘To Know, Water.’ A Triptych by Lazare Gvimradze
I remember as I sat through the end credits of the magnificent ABZÛ, and the acknowledgment of texts from the Enûma Eliš scrolled by, everything just clicked. The mosaics, the architecture, the commentary on man’s relationship with nature, it was all so perfectly in tune with the Babylonian myth of genesis. I immediately knew I wanted to dedicate another piece to the game and incorporate the scripture somehow.
I spent at least an hour digging through Wikipedia and other sources looking for a suitable quote or paragraph to inform my artwork. Nothing really grabbed on, nothing that is, until I looked down at my playlist and suddenly saw familiar words.
Some of the tracks from Austin Wintory’s brilliant score to the game were deadass named after lines from some of the passages that I had found. And they fit together perfectly, describing the diver’s arc through the story and linking her to a certain role within the original story. I instantly had my inspiration and the triptych sprouted from it almost by itself.
I love this game so, so much.
