I know this probably more aimed at whether or not it’s okay to hit your kids, but this reminds me of something that happened when I went to pick up my nieces and nephew from school once.

So, because I basically work from home, I’m free every day to pick them up. I walk. The school is only two blocks from the house. It’s not a problem. Besides, it’s easier because other kids being picked up by car cause a lot of congestion so I end up getting home way before they even leave parking lot.

It was raining really hard one day so I took the truck. When I got there, I parked and went to the waiting area and met with the other parents. Some I usually talk to also walk because they live either closer or on the same street as I do. I remember they asked why I decided to drive this time. I just kind of gestured to the rain.

And one of them goes “well I had to walk in the rain when I was a kid.”

And I just said, “yeah, so did I, and it sucked. Why am I going to make them do it too?”

I wish I could say they were like “oh you’re right,” but they weren’t. They just kind of shrugged it off and then proceeded to make their kids walk home with them in the rain.

A friend of mine occasionally goes on rants about how unfair it is that being a nerd is cool now. Keep in mind, this man is my age. Just turned 30 this year. He goes on an entire “when I was in school you got picked on for playing video games and now it’s cool” diatribe. Talking about how all the celebrities are playing D&D now when you used to get laughed at, etc. and just getting really worked up about it.

And like, sure, I understand being a little bitter that you had to go through that only for the standards to change, that the things you’re into are cool now just one short generation after being cool mattered to you. And you’re allowed to be upset about that, I guess, even if you don’t have anyone to blame. What’s considered cool changes over time, that’s just how society works.

But he takes it out on the kids. Like for some reason it’s their fault that they’re not being treated as badly as he was. That they’re somehow not real nerds because they haven’t had to fight for it. There’s so much anger in him about this and I don’t understand it. Overall, this is an improvement. We didn’t just switch what was cool. We don’t hail the gamers and computer programmers and stuff all the football players into trash cans in the hallway. Jocks and cheerleaders are still cool, but now being a nerd is cool too. That is a net gain in the number of people not being picked on for their hobbies.

The whole point of slowly improving the world and society over time is so people have an easier, happier, more fulfilling life. You may have had to pass through fire, but now that you’re hardened to it, it’s your responsibility to douse it so no one else has to get burned.

The cause of racism is often fear of the unknown - lack of knowledge about other cultures. Travel, explore and learn - open your mind.

I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS, reblog this every time it comes up on my blog. This is the BEST statement, I’ve ever seen.

I really love this. So many are dead-set on the view that people cannot better themselves but that simply isn’t true. Everybody deserves a second chance and everybody has the ability to better themselves.

what can we do to help amazon? everyone is saying that no-one gives a fuck about it, but no one is giving information how to help the situation :(

The “no-on gives a fuck” is about worldwide media not talking about this. But it’s really nice of you to want to help us.

You can donate here if you want to help stop the exploitation and deforestation of Amazon. The president, who calls himself “Captain Eletric Saw,” allows the exploitation and destruction of the Amazon for economic ends.

You can also donate to SOS AMAZONIA here. They are the biggest NGO in Brazil and they work with implantation of public policies that aims into preservation of the Amazon and it’s people.

They are both helping the Amazon right now!

Always good to remember: USD$1,00 =  RS$4,04 and  €1,00 = RS$4,48. So, even if you can help just a tiny bit, it will help us a lot!

My biggest flaw as a human is that I keep putting off stuff because I’m scared to not do it as well as I expect from myself or that people might expect from me until I have to do it but there’s not even enough time left to make it even marginally acceptable.

I keep starting projects I’m passionate about but giving up midway because my whole body freezes up and the work seems daunting and stretched out but ignoring it never does make it go away, does it?

Lessons:

-work everyday even if only a little

-trust yourself in what you put out

-something is better than nothing. always.

-something can be taking a shower or even getting out of bed. small victories are the ones that count the most.

-ask for help and talk about your feelings if your chest starts getting tight with them

-instead of spiraling into anxiety with long term plans focus on what you can do right now

-sometimes our judgement is skewed when it comes to ourselves. Ask a friend you trust will be honest but gentle with your heart. In case that you have no one to ask, take a dive, you won’t know till you try and wishing you did later on is much worse than trying and failing.

-stop being so hard on yourself. as i read somewhere “failure is a bruise not a scar” It’s so very human to make mistakes. let yourself be a person.

-if you can be kind to the people you love, your friends, parents, peers, strangers even, you have the capacity to be kind to yourself. It’s something innate to you, to care, please try directing some of it to your own heart.

Ok, sorry i’ll go.

I feel like a mum fussing over her children but I really thought that If i’m going to write some nice things for myself after a week of anxiety and 2 days of depressive naps I should post it too because who knows someone might read this and feel a little better about where they are in life.

Your circumstances are not who you are, your decisions may not always turn out how you expected, but these things do not make you any less of a person and any less in deserving love from the people in your life and yourself, ok?

bbye, i’ll go before I end up writing a gotdamn book lmao

Tumblr: *rolls out “best stuff first”*

My blog:

on the one hand this is a joke post because lol i have never made a good post in my life, but also, if i hadn’t made the connection between this update and my sudden nosedive in activity, i would have been really fucking discouraged about all the shit i’ve been working on lately. i guarantee there are people on tumblr right now who haven’t made that connection, and who are trying to figure out why suddenly no one likes anything they’ve made. and that fucking sucks.

Reminder to go into your settings and turn off ‘Best Stuff First’ because my activity’s tanked a couple days ago for no reason so this stuff IS happening.

You WILL miss content with that setting on.

i ain’t joking when i say that my activity looks JUST like this too and i wasn’t sure why

I’m sure you all have seen posts like this before, but you will be missing out on a lot of content if you have this feature activated.

Fyi, folks, this account has been hit pretty hard by this change. Engagement is currently at about 30% of normal, which means that there are a lot of people missing out on informative posts like this one about original works on AO3.

In order to change this setting on mobile (it’s unclear if it’s available on desktop at the moment), view your blog by tapping the little silhouette in the bottom right of your screen, then tap the settings gear in the top right of your screen. From there, select Global Settings (iOS) or General Settings (Android), then Dashboard Preferences, and toggle the switch for “Best Stuff First.”

Thanks to everybody who follows this account, everybody who reblogs and/or likes the posts here, and everybody who joins in with events like Fandom First Friday! You’re all awesome!

Hey guys, normally I don’t reblog on this account, but I wanted to help make more people aware of this. It’s probably going to harm every single person you follow, so please consider turning it off. I’ve noticed a drop from normal as well and although I try to not let note counts bother me, I have to admit it’s pretty discouraging.

I never reblog stuff like this either, but this is hurting our community. Best stuff First can be turned off in your settings. You will be able to go back to seeing the variety of things you enjoy on Tumblr instead of “what Tumblr thinks you want to see”

for all my trans and nb followers, especially the kids and those who may still be in the closet, please don’t let what trump said today make you ashamed or afraid to be who you are. you are NOT a burden, you are IMPORTANT and you MATTER. i’m so sorry that there are people who can’t see that. i’m not going to lie to you and say this isn’t what trans people face on the daily, i’m not gonna tell you that our lives are all rainbows and flowers bc they aren’t AT ALL. but we are capable of having rich and happy lives, despite pieces of shit like that orange circus peanut.

you matter. you always have, please let my voice drown out all the bad ones. please. you matter.

and for all my cis followers, fight for us. we are fighting for ourselves trust me we are, but be an ally to us and fight too. don’t speak over us, don’t overshadow us, but stand with us please. know the struggles we face, and stand with us to help change that. be our ally.

Being a good person is a choice. Don’t let people fool you into believing that truly good people never have bad thoughts, are never tempted by the easier path, by the low road, never mess up or act out selfishly. Never believe a person can be good without making a conscious effort.

Every single time you do something good, you’ve made a decision to make the world a little brighter.

Goodness is not an inherent trait, it is a choice. Keep making it! I see you, I’m proud of you, and I’m rooting for you!

“THIS PICTURE WILL NOT CHANGE THE WORLD, BUT I STILL NEED FEMINISM AND I’M GOING TO REALLY, REALLY TELL YOU WHY”:

-Because I got called a whore for wearing a short plaid skirt when I was 10

-and because when Nujood Ali from Yemen was 10 she got divorced

-Because black girls’ names became my classmates’ favorite “joke” when I was 11

-and because when an 11-year-old girl in Texas was raped by 18 men the New York Times wrote of how the girl “dressed older than her age”

-Because I started counting calories when I was 14

-and because when Malala Yousafzai was 14 she was shot in the head for trying to go to school

-Because I heard a boy greet a girl with “hey slut” today at age 16 -and because when a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, Ohio was filmed being raped by two boys at a party while unconscious the CNN reporters talked about how tragic it was because the rapists had such bright futures as athletes

-Because I will have to watch my drink at all bars and parties when I am 22

-and because when CeCe McDonald was 22 she was sentenced to 41 months in prison for defending herself against a man who screamed transphobic, racist insults at her and then slashed her face with a bottle

-Because no matter what age I am the biggest threat to men will still be heart disease, and the biggest threat to women will still be men.

-Because it is not just about me, because it is not just about anger, because it is not just a JOKE, because it is not just about “hating men,” because it is not just about girls with vaginas, because it is not just about ending “slut”, because it is not just about white straight girls in Rookie magazine, because it is not just about writing on backs, because it is not just about the fact that gay men are “fags” but lesbians are “hot,” because it is not just about pictures of thin white girls being the only google image results for the search phrase “beautiful women”, because it is not just about writing signs, because it is not just about what she was wearing or how many times she said yes before she changed her answer to no, because misogyny is not just about one thing and feminism is not just about one thing and it is not just “a trend” and it will not “happen” in just one way.

-And because yes. It is about equality for EVERYONE, but first and foremost it needs to be about equality for girls, because they are not treated equally to men, in every single sense, and you are not going to take feminism away from me and call me bossy/hostile/aggressive and make this about yourself or make it into a joke, because truth be told, I’m not joking and I’m tired of explaining. If you want to call yourself a feminist, you work hard to spread feminism, you do not turn this into a contest of whose struggle is greater and constantly demand to know what you can get out of feminism personally. Feminism is not just about you, or me, it is about everyone. If you’re male and you’re tired of men being stereotyped as hyper-masculine, soulless, sexist, inherent leader-tyrant creatures, then go out and prove the patriarchy wrong and fight for girls, like someone with a soul who believes in equality would. Then, yes, feminism will be about everyone.

i feel the strong urge to print this out and hand out copies to everyone i meet to spread the word on feminism and rape culture bc i couldnt word it this well without becoming overly angry and giving up

This is v important

Scott, 24 (Los Angeles, CA)

“I actually haven’t voted before. Can you believe that? I know, I am embarrassed. You are like cringing right now…But here’s the deal! The first time I was allowed to vote was the last election. It’s when I was first old enough to vote, and…I didn’t. I was moving to LA, and I did not care about it, and I did not think about it”

“This year, I did register to vote though. And I am so ready to do it! Because I’ll be honest, when I was 19, 20… I didn’t care. I feel like a lot of people are in that boat. But I’ve been following this election more, and I’ve been really freaked out by the things going on, and so I feel like even though I am only one vote, that matters. I need to take control. I am hoping more people do too.”

“I used to think that one vote doesn’t matter, but that’s a very young way of thinking. Every vote does matter, and it’s about taking the time and actually doing it. If you vote, and you get excited about voting with the people around you, it becomes infectious. We can band together and make a difference – especially as Millennials. We have power when we band together.”

“If I were talking on Superfruit saying, “who has the time to vote?”, and our fans thought that they don’t need to vote either, we’d be banding together in a negative way. Every time you don’t vote, it’s a vote for the other side, really.”

If u don't listen to me, listen to your fave 😉

GO VOTE!!!

Why do blacks think all while people look down on them? I personally don't look at them any differently. I don't treat them any differently. I don't randomly touch their hair (who even does that?). It upsets me to think that because I'm white this is how I'm viewed. Not all whites are racist and rude. I wish we could all just see the good and the beautiful in each other instead of assuming the worst of everyone. Like let's all just be a big happy family and band together in love.

So you’re not one of those particular white people. Well, great! Movies like “Dear White People” aren’t geared towards you. But, the fact of the matter is, there are MANY white people who do in fact do this. You have to realize, as I came to realize, our personal experience is not everyone’s personal experience. If there’s one thing we have learned from recent events (Ferguson, the Trayvon Martin shooting, many of Trump’s supporters), racism is still very much a thing in our society. As white people, many times, we don’t see it. And sometimes, media like “Dear White People” provides a good dose of that reality, which many people definitely need to see. At the end of the movie, they show actual recent photos from parties at national colleges where students were dressed in blackface as a costume. One of those colleges was the University of Florida… my hometown. That was certainly an eye-opener. That movie doesn’t exaggerate on issues in the slightest. If this sort of media hurts feelings, that’s nothing compared to years of systematic oppression that black people have had to endure, and are still enduring. If you long for being a big happy family, as I do as well, then speak up. Stand with them. Don’t remain silent and hope it will all eventually work itself out. Educate yourself on the issues happening, as I’m still trying to do. And lastly, if you’re offended by black people making a blanket statement about all white people, it’s best not to phrase your question “Why do blacks…” because that’s kind of a blanket (and pretty derogatory) statement too, right?

Thomas, I think you are my favourite human.

1. You took the time to explain why we as white people have to stand up to racism too 2. You showed the anon where they can start at doing things right/better

And most importantly: 3. You STILL were kind and polite about it.

I wish I could elect you president of the world tomorrow tbh, I feel like you are the kind of person we need to make this world a better place.

Don’t ever make fun of someone who’s deeply invested in something fictional.  Whether it’s a cartoon, a comic, a video game, a book series, or anything else like that.  You don’t know what that thing means to them.  Maybe it’s prevented them from hurting themselves, or helped them get through an illness or a bad situation.  Maybe they met their only true friends through the fandom.  Perhaps they simply just enjoy the thing because it’s well-written and entertaining, and they’ve spent years watching the characters grow.

Let people have emotions over something they enjoy, okay?

As a paranormal/horror blogger I can assure you these child abuse ads are the most scariest and saddest thing I’ve ever seen. Probably because things like that are happening RIGHT NOW at this very INSTANT.

And it’s horrifying but hopefully these ads bring more attention towards it.

I got these from this buzzfeed article. You can view more ads and the sources for these ads there as well.

i wish men understood that when women are talking about feminism and rape culture and shit, it’s not just a political conversation. it’s not about being a “social justice warrior” or whatever. it’s about our actual lives being shaped by misogyny since childhood, and the daily reality of living in fear of violence. this isn’t a fucking game or philosophical debate. this is our fucking lives.

this post is picking up like 100 notes per minute its outta control
